Will it be a Royal story? Harry at the Coronation?

Or something about Zahawi and taxes

You're right...old news...

I work in media relations.

An embargoed story doesn't mean it's anything exciting or scandalous. It just means that the media have been given a story in advance - usually one that involves a report that's going to be published or something like that - so that they can have enough time to digest the information and get their coverage and reactions ready to go at a specific time, when the report is actually published or the announcement is publicly made. Embargoing it until a certain time means that the print media, like the Guardian and the Telegraph, have the same chance to break the story on a certain day as broadcast media do. A front-page embargo can easily be something economy-related or some newly published research or whatever.

🤣Just had a text from my son's school that the gym is back open after a fire. Quickly followed by another text saying to ignore the previous text but that they'll let us know as soon.

Sounds like someone broke the embargo there! Will expect an official release this evening.

Well now I really want to know what this story was supposed to be.

Is anyone mates with a Times / Grauniad journo they could ply with strong drink and pump for details?

What on earth has it got to do with the DC Universe? Is Batman coming back?

AmIreallyBeverly · 31/01/2023 14:39

Ryan Reynolds as Batman!

BillyNighysWife · 31/01/2023 14:53

@justasking111
don’t be so silly. Sadiq Khan isn’t ‘destroying’ London. Do you live in London?
And have you seen the headlines today? The whole British economy is in trouble, far worse than any other country. I wonder who is responsible for that?

Who the heck is that Twitter account? Grin

the new DC Cinematic Universe (DCU).

Three months after James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed co-heads of DC Studios, the duo are set to reveal their 10-year plan for Warner Bros' rebooted DC Extended Universe (DCEU) later today (January 30).
And, frankly, they're cutting it fine. Gunn has consistently stated that he'd share the first official details about the DCU's new blueprint before January 2023 ends – so with one day left before February rolls around, the pair are certainly pushing it.

One of the tabloids possibly, though even that's stretching it, but not the Guardian or Telegraph. I think the tweet is just jumping on a bandwagon, though if it is, whispers around the subject of the embargo must be floating around beyond the UK (which ties in with the timings).

Well said @BillyNighysWife

As far as I can see, Sadiq Khan is just trying to clean up our air so that some of us, and our kids, can breathe properly. But there'll always be entitled motorists who'll call him fit to burn 🙄

Woops, wrong link. ^^ C&Ped the wrong thing.

Air pollution in London is horrific, especially in summer. I have asthma and there are parts of Central London I honestly cannot breathe in sometimes...it gets quite scary

I don't think it was jumping on any bandwagon - not sure DCU could care less about the UK papers' headlines.. I suspect they just had their own embargo and were tweeting about it. PP either posted it as a joke, or had just searched 'embargo' on twitter and assumed it was related without looking at the Twitter account...

Leftoverssandwich · 31/01/2023 15:24

Yep, it's entirely unconnected.

Embargoed reports are entirely routine, it's true. I've written a few myself. The reason this got people interested was the tweets from journalists implying it was something interesting this time. It doesn't make sense for the embargo to relate to what was on the front pages of those papers today, as the IMF report was in the public domain earlier, so it does appear that something has not been published that was planned.

JustFrustrated · 31/01/2023 15:26

Literally nothing big in the news today?

Or have I missed something?

The IMF report is big news. Unsurprising, but big news.

It's unsurprising, therefore it isn't "big news" that I'd associate with something be embargoed.

vera99 · 31/01/2023 15:31

Sunak has announced that we have been accepted for a new relationship with the EU that will end with rejoining in the next 2 years. He will announce that after much soul searching and with careful thought a referendum will be held in May to coincide with the local elections and a joint press conference with Sir Keir,Mark Drakeford and Nicola Sturgeon and that bloke from NI that I can't remember(or is it a Sinn Fein woman ?) will follow next week to let the country know at this difficult time a coalition of the willing has come together in the national interest. God Save the King.

Pretty sure it will be that,

I think in this instance though a senior journalist said that it was worth staying up to 1.30am for, which makes it seem more likely to be of interest.

Fladdermus · 31/01/2023 15:49

Charles' marriage to Diana has been annulled by the Archbishop of Canterbury. William and Harry are therefore no longer in line to the throne. Camilla is expecting the true heir by a miracle of modern IVF. That's my guess.
