Are you planning for Easter already?

All of my old time friends have got it all sorted pretty much. One is hosting this year and the previous year another friend did it

They've hired Peter Rabbit to come and greet the children, and got their personalised Easter bags at the ready. Also personalised Easter Box with DC name on them

I got a text this morning to say Little Lords and Ladies have released their Easter 2023 pjs and to order now or they'll all get taken (they only do so many and then stop)

Then it'll be a roast for the adults with picky bits for the children.

One of my friends kindly bought me one last year as I'd run out of time Blush so my DS has one but I'll need one for DD now

Do most people plan this far ahead? I'm just trying to work it out as I'm a hypocrite really. I've been known to buy Christmas bits in January!

That’s so sweet (I would love a visit from Peter Rabbit) 😅

my getting ready entails going to Aldi for the chocolate eggs in good time. We buy for the neighbours so will get them a nice gift bag wine and egg.

i decorate the house but I’ve had the stuff for years!

Slimjimtobe · 22/01/2023 08:23

I wouldn’t bother with pjs or Easter boxes ! A good old fashioned egg and a little box for a hunt around the garden is plenty.

Spottypaperdoll · 22/01/2023 08:24

My birthday usually falls around Easter, it has again this year, so we always go on holiday. I’ve booked it this week so that’s fine.
Certainly don’t have Easter trails, visits from Peter rabbit or gifts. What a daft expense.

It all sounds a bit OTT

Is the church service going to be cathedral? Or small church in the arse end of beyond because some branch of one of the families used to own the estate?

Brand new clothes for that, of course! Whilst that wasn't exactly a full-on tradition, having something new to wear for Easter is pretty normal

Woeman · 22/01/2023 08:25

Planned what??

Go to shop, buy some easter eggs.

nibbledhiscable · 22/01/2023 08:25

@Slimjimtobe that's me too! I usually buy the eggs too late. They're so expensive now too, £7 I saw in Tesco yesterday for a small sized Cadbury's Easter egg

I'm a Christian so I like Easter time for separate reasons too and happy to embrace all things bunny related, but just admit I don't decorate

Maybe I should?! DC would love it probably and TK Maxx have lovely Easter stuff

What fresh hell is this? Easter is the new Christmas? Utterly ridiculous.
A few days off with church on the Sunday if you're that way inclined, followed by a roast and a chocolate egg. Done.
Peter Rabbit as the Easter Bunny? Beatrix Potter would be turning in her grave.

What is there to plan?

1.Go to shops
2.buy a chocolate egg

  1. Bung it the kids way on Easter Sunday
SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 22/01/2023 08:27

Easter egg hunt around the house on Easter morning which leads to the big egg and a small present followed by a big Easter dinner is what we do!

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 22/01/2023 08:27

That all seems very over the top and unnecessary. Peter Rabbit, really? What’s wrong with a chocolate egg and that’s it? Feels very curated for Instagram.

00100001 · 22/01/2023 08:28

An Easter present???

It's Easter, there's no presents...

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 22/01/2023 08:29

Just to mention though, the presents is because DS has a December birthday so never gets summery/outdoor gifts at Christmas or bday. This way he gets something new for outside at a more appropriate time of year (he's only little so wouldn't understand getting something and having to wait X many months to play with it)

Yes that's lovely!

Do they do it for Instagram?

We get chocolate eggs for a hunt and eat good food but that’s about it

Smallorangecat · 22/01/2023 08:31

No, but I’ve not planned for next week yet or February half-term, I don’t even know exactly when Easter is this year. I don’t plan for anything this far in advance, including Christmas, and, for me, Easter doesn’t require so much planning. I get DC a small gift each and eggs for an Easter egg hunt round the house. We don’t decorate unless DC make some Easter crafts to stick up. We don’t have personalised pyjamas for anything. We might have Sunday dinner at my parents or my in-laws, but, if not, I won’t cook a roast dinner because DC don’t really like that.

PetitPorpoise · 22/01/2023 08:31

Haven't even thought about it. The only 'planning' I do is remembering to buy the eggs in early March before all the good ones get sold.

00100001 · 22/01/2023 08:31

It's people like OPs friend who are making Easter "the new Christmas"... ruining it for fucking everyone.

Because now her kids will be prattling on about the OTT Easter, and people will start trying to level up etc. Alongside all the crap in the shops now making it out to be a gift giving and prolonged celebration.

I wonder why Bonfire Night has remained simple. When Easter, Halloween and Christmas, Eid, Chinese New Year etc seem to get bigger every year.

So, mark his half birthday?

Or why not co-opt another festival?

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 22/01/2023 08:33

I don’t even know when Easter is this year tbh.

nibbledhiscable · 22/01/2023 08:33

Can't find where Peter Rabbit has come from but I'll keep looking as they said he was found on FB

Found this one though for anyone near Braintree Essex Grin

Are you planning for Easter already?

Found him! But sold out in the description for Good Friday

AngelsWithSilverWings · 22/01/2023 08:38

This is nuts! I can't ever remember having a conversation with anyone about planning for Easter. We don't even have a special dinner - it's just a normal Sunday. I just make sure I've cross hot cross buns in for Good Friday.

Why do people put so much pressure on themselves? My in laws are devout Christian ( FIL is a retired Vicar) Easter for them is just going to church a lot.
