There’s a really big empty box at work that I could fit in.

How frowned on, on a score of 1 to 10, 1 being mildly raised eyebrow, 10 we need to contact HR urgently do you think it would be if I just had some nice quiet time in the box?

Lie the box down and crawl in, it sounds great. And you'd be even harder to see.

vvork · 20/01/2023 17:32

Hope the box has a lovely weekend xoxo

Giggorata · 20/01/2023 17:32

No one will know you're in it, if you lie it down and pull another large piece of cardboard over the entrance.
A few cushions, a tablet, a drink… perfect. Unless you snore.

Alternatively, front it out, as this is the very definition of flexible working.

froomeonthebroom · 20/01/2023 17:51

I would 100% hide in the box if teenagers needing help with food/it/drama/music coursework couldn't find me there.

Update: I did get in the box

Excellent work

YES. FUCK YEAH.

KateBalesCardi · 20/01/2023 19:06

Thank you OP, DD cheered when I showed her your pic, we both really wanted you to get in the box Grin Did it live up to expectations? I've been contemplating whether I can construct a larger box from the pile of smaller boxes I have waiting to be flattened for recycling all afternoon, sadly DH is due home shortly so I've contemplated for too long and missed my chance Sad

vvork · 20/01/2023 19:08

@KateBalesCardi LTB.

Stoechas, thank you for the best thread of the day. Or perhaps the week.

Anyoldfuckingusername · 20/01/2023 19:12

Yanbu. But at the same time you are completely unreasonable for not cutting yourself a pair of eye holes and using the box to sneak up on people.
I feel very conflicted 😄

Stoechas · 20/01/2023 19:13

😢@KateBalesCardi at your lost box opportunity

It was nice in the box. But I was unable to get in or out of it secretly, so several colleagues were watching and I couldn’t stay in to enjoy the quiet. They then proceeded to get in the box in turn, so now it’s not my box it’s the office safe space box.

There's photos of me in a giant box at work at an old job. It was so big, I couldn't resist. My boss found it hilarious.

I also climbed inside a giant tumble dryer at the hospital (I took my shoes off first) as I spotted it while on a night-shift as a student nurse (making our way out through the back way for a fag break). That was one of those 'life goals' type situations that I could not pass on. It made me very happy.

My current job, the silliest thing I've done was I made a circle on the floor out of those arrows that people were sticking on the floors during covid. Mine was a loop, so you got stuck in it. It amused me... Also creating mountains/towers out of urine pots!

I consider it making my inner child happy, because my childhood was rather challenging. I'm playful and I won't apologise for that.

vvork · 20/01/2023 19:18

@RagzRebooted if you've not made a ward nativity scene out of urine pots and blue roll, you've not lived.

I am SO HAPPY rn

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 20/01/2023 19:23

i Just fist pumped dramatically into the air on your behalf OP.

It almost feels triumphant that you at first failed to get into the box, but persevered and the did in fact enter the box as requested and advised by so many.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 20/01/2023 19:25

And you have seen fit to donate the box for the good of others.

Today, you are heroic, truly a Friday evening hero.

I have not. Ideas for next year... (not a ward and don't have blue roll, but I am in charge of ordering supplies...)
I was tempted by the speculum reindeer, but I wouldn't want to waste the speculum. At least the urine pots can still be used.

Pleased to see OP got in the box, it's not the best shape though and not really a nesting type box. Sad.

I'm just thinking about how big the box that contained the industrial sized tumble dryer must have been (new life goal!).

Cats know the box belongs to cats. They would not be asking!

LollipopViolet · 20/01/2023 20:01

Yes OP! Glad your colleagues saw the fun side and joined in too!

I'd love a box in my office. I only go in 2 days a week but it can be overwhelming from a sensory point of view at times, and a nice big box under my desk, easy to climb into but tall enough that if I curled up I'd be nicely hidden away, some blankets... ahhhh.

I want a box..

Cats, toddlers and teenagers absolutely have the right idea. Boxes are ace.
