There’s a really big empty box at work that I could fit in.

How frowned on, on a score of 1 to 10, 1 being mildly raised eyebrow, 10 we need to contact HR urgently do you think it would be if I just had some nice quiet time in the box?

You could rent that out for a good grand or so in London.

KateBalesCardi · 20/01/2023 12:55

The box could be gone by Monday OP, don't waste your only chance 🙏

It looks inconveniently tall. I think you'd need to lay it down on its side and crawl in.

I'm not sure that's a quiet nesting box at all, I think it's a cut-two-eye-holes-shove-it-over-your-head-and-lumber-around box.

better yet
when no one is around, cut eye holes, put box over self, sit quietly.

then conveniently spring to life during a particularly boring office moment, especially if someone is spouting corporate bullshit speak.

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/01/2023 12:58

"Fall" (comfortably) into box
As soon as anyone appears, claim you fell.
Ask for first aider.
Get treated
Claim to feel unwell.
Mumble about Health and Safety, unions etc
Go home
Trade box for sofa.

SomeCommonThing · 20/01/2023 13:01

They'd have to find you first. Get in the box. Take snacks.

vvork · 20/01/2023 13:04

Ooh a box. Put it on its side and crawl in to the lovely, quiet box. Oh, box. Nice box. Lovely box. Box. Box box boxy box.

Primroseprimula · 20/01/2023 13:11

I did wonder if the thread would be about whether you could get into the box and be posted somewhere and if this could be cheaper than the train

I could step into it and the sort of hunker down I think. Like Jackie Laverty from line of duty, but not dead or frozen obviously.

But could you un-hunker down (hunker up?) step out of the box or would you need to be rescued?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/01/2023 13:20

I don't think that box is a good shape - you could get wedged and then tip over. It might seem unprofessional if your colleagues has to pry you out?

But could you then get out? This has the capacity to keep getting funnier! 😂

amusedbush · 20/01/2023 13:25

Hmm, no. I'm disappointed now that I've seen the box. I'm built like a womble and would never get back out of that once I was in.

You need a wider, more shallow box for optimal comfort.

I would un-hunker or just wobble myself over sideways and crawl out.

To be fair, it may also seem unprofessional if OP is found in the box, or pops out of the box.

A lot depends on styling it out.

Mother87 · 20/01/2023 13:28

Do it - with fairy lights

Mother87 · 20/01/2023 13:30

I'd maybe try putting it sort of upright & sitting in it first & see how it goes

Mother87 · 20/01/2023 13:31

I suppose you won't really know until you try it? Or you may love it THAT much you prefer it to chairs/sofas/houses.

Didn't Monty Python have a box sketch showing age

At the very least you now have to write 'Boxy McBox-Face' on the outside of the box.

Stoechas · 20/01/2023 13:33

Update. I cannot step into the box.

TangledWebOfDeception · 20/01/2023 13:37

Even better; you can crawl in and thus be perfectly placed to have a nap. No need to awkwardly back out - simply create another door at opposite end. Voila! You will be able to crawl/slink out in a suitably dignified manner.

BluePolar · 20/01/2023 13:39

Shred some paper and make a little nest for yourself
Its Friday afternoon, I think you are entitled to be a hamster

Yes, I referenced that upthread...now it strikes me, if OP could quickly set that as "out of office" reply before getting in the box, even better! 😂

LoobyDop · 20/01/2023 13:40

Bring your whole self to work. If your whole self then needs to be in a box, then allowing that would appear to be the inclusive thing to do.
