@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz gender is a social construct which is fluid. Men can wear pink. Girls can play with trucks. Doesn't really matter. But biological sex is unchanging, no matter how much pink boys wear, or what body parts they cut off, their biological sex will never change.

Thank you.

Left the UK before this whole thing exploded and tbh by now I was a bit confused - you've just clarified it for me!

At the baby scan place they were selling ‘gender cannons’ and I was gonna correct them until I realised no one wants a sex cannon going off at a family event

I think a sex cannon is what got them to the scanning place to start with! 🤣

Me three.

Even the form at the vet asked what gender my cat is!!

I would have been tempted to say 'non binary '

I think even in the most extreme cases of DSD no one is born with both ovaries and testicles. There are no true "hermaphrodites".

This is correct. There are no records anywhere of a human being born with both testes and ovaries. Intersex babies still have a sex observed at birth, as far as I'm aware. ( that's another thing that is maddening - the term sex " assignment ")

The Quigley scale is used to define the gradations of masculine/feminine genitalia in intersex cases.

Hmmm meant to add that emoji to someone's hilarious comment about the gender cannon / sex cannon... not in general for the topic !!! How do you do attach a reply to one comment - I'm having a dopey moment.

What about the people born with both testicles and ovary? The organs you mention isn't the part that determines your sex/gender, really

I don't know if that condition actually exists, but I do know that there are people with disorders of sexual development which are medical conditions and they are all either male or female.

changedforanswer · 04/06/2023 18:21

We were chatting about buying a kitten and my son said 'what gender shall we get?"

No way. There are only male or female kittens. He didn't get it from me but school teaches gender and not biological sex now! It's a kitten it doesn't know the over 100 different genders it can chose from.

CatticusFinch · 04/06/2023 19:15

When and why did the word transsexual go out of use? I hadn't actually realised it had until my DH said something about it when we were listening to a radio discussion last week.

CeriB82 · 05/06/2023 06:30

please take me back to the time when you didn’t know whether it was a boy or a girl , nor the date it would be born.

there is zero element of surprise.

transchloe · 19/12/2023 11:43

Mmm, reading this and other threads, I think some people need to look back in history. We have a rich history, dating back centuries, of trans people being allowed to live happily without any issues.
The biggest problem today for trans people is the media, who are stoking up as much trouble as they can. This is on the back of ultra right wing philosophy, and the radical Christian movement.
We are in a situation that is very similar to the section 28 movement in the '80's and the anti-Aids movement int he late 80s and early 90's.
People really do need to move on and accept trans people the same way they did 40 years agos, and 70 years ago, and in the Victorian ages.

Peskysquirrel · 19/12/2023 11:53

Can you explain a bit more why you think the situation is similar to the section 28 movement and the anti-Aids movement?
You can't just make a statement like that without explaining why.

Peskysquirrel · 19/12/2023 11:57

This is on the back of ultra right wing philosophy, and the radical Christian movement.

This has become such a tired trope now.
Millions of adults worried about the various effects of this ideology are not "ultra right wing".
There is no "radical Christian movement" in the UK.

museumum · 19/12/2023 11:58

'We're pregnant and going to invite you to our sex reveal'
😱

But yes, usually i would agree.

When a male dog is neutered, he’s still a male dog.

That's why the Australian animals rescue shows fill me with rage when they say that they are desexing the animal. NO YOU ARE NOT! There is no way to remove the chromosomes from the animal.

Exactly. I'm a left wing atheist and I can see how dangerous and stupid gender ideology is. I have one Christian friend and she's the only one I know who goes along with pronoun nonsense.

That's what I was going to say!

transchloe · 19/12/2023 12:20

Section 28...not allowing any 'promotion' of LGBT. We are now in a situation where the government is looking at pushing through legislation that will limit trans peoles rights. They will HAVE to go on a hospital ward aligned to their natal sex. Consider a trans man, full beard, deep voice, muscular, working (in essence) penis. This trans man is placed on a women ward due to legislation. He will feel incredibly uncomfortable. Thw women on the ward also. Think about vulnerable women on that ward, seeing a man having a bed bath.
This is totally unacceptable.

Then consider the AIDS propaganda in the late 80s and early 90s. The media whipping up hatred of all gay men, and this leaked I to lesbians as well. Gay bashing happened daily. The same misinformation regarding trans people is being spread throughout the media regarding trans people. They are vilified, talk about as if they are somehow sub-human.

I lived throught he AIDS crisis, section 28. We are moving back to those days again.

As I said in my previous post, historically trans people were accepted as people, now the media are treating them as someone to hate.

transchloe · 19/12/2023 12:22

Why is pronoun nonsense? Would you call your daughter he? Would a work colleague, (cis) female be happyl if you called her him?
It's about respect of the individual.

Peskysquirrel · 19/12/2023 12:23

The biggest problem today for trans people is the media TRAs, who are stoking up as much trouble as they can.

Fixed that for you

comfyoldcardi · 19/12/2023 12:26

Has a transman ever had a working penis? The brutal, mutilating surgery involved doesn't seem to be successful so far.

Peskysquirrel · 19/12/2023 12:28

Working "in essence" apparently.
Whatever that means 🤔
