I think it is unfortunate that the word in English for someone's sex is the same as the word for doing the deed. If they were two different words, people wouldn't be so squeamish about saying "sex" when talking about male and female.

I blame my parents' generation. They were the ones who thought it was hilarious to write "yes please" instead of "male" or "female" when a questionnaire asked about sex.

The whole thing's such a mess. How can a GENDER recognition certificate allow you to change your legal SEX on your birth certificate (when it's precisely NOT the sex you were born?!) I wonder if the issues would become more apparent if they renamed it the Sex Recognition Act/Sex Recognition Certificate.
