Ken Bruce leaving Radio 2

Just heard Ken Bruce announce he's leaving radio 2 in March.
Him and Steve Wright were the only reason I listened to Radio 2.
What am I going to listen to now?
Can't stand commercial radio, too old for Radio 1, any ideas please?

I suspect a lot of people who hate on Rylan have never listened to his show and are judging him on his looks, accent, sexual orientation and a decade old appearance on X factor.

I love his radio show, he's warm and funny and brilliant with guests.

I'm a member of a Popmaster FB group and there's a lot of talk about Radio 2 being ruined by 'modern music' (anything from the 90s) and Radio 2 'ticking boxes'. All the culprits are older white men.

Interestingly no one ever moaned about Moira Stuart 'ticking boxes' when she read the news on the breakfast show.

I don't want Rylan doing a show 5 days a week because his theme is Ibiza, dance music, his celeb mates and his mother. I catch a bit of his show on a Saturday afternoon if I'm in, or in the car. Entertaining enough but quite niche, as I said.

My opinion has nothing to do with his sexuality or his age or my age.

Also I think he is far too busy doing TV projects and adverts all over the place. He wouldn't want to be tied down.

And Moira reading the news is hardly hosting an entire 2.5 hour show x 5 days a week.

What is the problem with Scott Mills? I've never listened to his daytime show on R2 because of work, but I did listen to him on R1 when I was WFH. I've always liked Scott. What is the big issue?

Though I enjoy Between the Covers on TV, I can't stand Sara Cox on the radio, and switch to R1 at drivetime. I do love Rylan on a Saturday, but him every day would be a touch too much.

I can't stand the "names" that aren't DJs. Too much of that on R2 for my liking. I do like Gary Davies, OJ and Trevor Nelson.

I seem to be the only person who can't stand Ken Bruce, his voice really really grates on me so it'll be great to listen to popmaster without him.

Craig Charles would be my choice but perhaps they should have a selection of people for a while to see who works best.

@Cherry60 I don't like him either! But he's taking popmaster with him to GHR.

He owns the rights to PopMaster as it's his invention Cherry60 so it goes with him to the new station.

I really like Scott Mills! Always listened to
him on radio 1. He plays good music. I don’t get the hate for him, he’s lighthearted and fun.

Steve Wright was terrible, hadn’t moved on from the 80s and talking all over the bloody songs.

Anita Rani is dull dull dull. Apart from ‘tell me what’s you’ve been doing today’ she doesn’t really say much else.

OJ Borg is boring.

Love Popmaster, will have to switch over when it’s on.

I really hate all the TV presenters who are now on there (Davina McCall is TERRIBLE) - use proper radio djs! It’s a very different skill

I don’t get this either. Anyone can be a DJ now as long as they’ve been on telly. Angela Griffen doing the chilled podcast? That was quite random.

Whaat!? That's not right, he doesn't own Popmaster surely? Oh well they can just do a pop quiz with a different name, as long as he's not doing it I'll be happy 😁

I have GHR a go this morning to see what it was like before following Ken there. Nope. The constant adverts are everything I hate about radio. Sorry Ken.

I put it on last night and it was Jakki Brambles who was interviewing Will Mellor about the upcoming Strictly tour, which was a good interview, but then when Will went off and the music started, there were loads of ads which I cannot stand.

I am 48 and so probably radio 2's demographic. Ken Bruce is fine (although mainly only hear bits when driving between visits for work) but I do not really get the huge outpouring of grief. I love Scott Mills- I used to listen to his 5 live show on Saturday and really miss it. He is warm, funny and self-deprecating. I could not stand Steve Wright and have no idea how he got away with the same show for so many years.

Rylan is a good listen on a Saturday if I want to put the radio on whilst doing things at home or happen to be driving. I am not sure if he would be a good fit weekday mornings because I do not really understand the demographic who can religiously tune in every day- I am assuming it is mostly people who are not working? Even with the rise of WFH. I miss Graham Norton on saturday morning. I cannot stand radio 2's Sunday output- I do not have dab radio on my old skoda so it is spotify or bbc sounds if on a long journey! Radio 5 is my go to in the morning- Rick and Rachel are excellent. I like a lot of radio 5's output (just not into sport).

I know lots of people say they will be following various presenters to commercial stations. However, the frequent, long and puerile ad- breaks must put a lot of people of? This and the quality of the news reporting is where the BBC really wins.

I like Rylan too! I love the dance music he plays, it’s great to cook and dance to in the kitchen.

Radio 2 on a Sunday is dire. Love songs is just vomit inducing.

I listen to Graham Norton on Virgin now as he still does Graham’s Guide with Maria.

I just wish Scott was on for longer!

Jeremy Vine is the equivalent to the Daily Fail with his ridiculous questions.

Agreed R2 love songs is vomit inducing and probably pre recorded , some new young blood needed without it all being shouty and everyone phoning in ( Anita Rani )

Wasn't fussed for Steve wright. But love Ken!! Please not Scott mills or rylan. Agree Gary Davies would be good I think dermot too but he has this morning.

He was supposed to leave on 23rd but was asked to go early for some weird reason. He wasn’t very happy about it!

We're not supposed to listen to the radio at work, but I've got Ken in one earphone today, just talking to me. I'm so sad 😥
