When do you, if ever, drink champagne?

I had a milestone birthday recently and moved house last week. For both of these I have been given a fair few bottles of champagne - ranging from Mumm to Veuve Cliquot/Laurent Perrier. I don't mind champagne, and regularly drink Prosecco at home, but it feels strangely indulgent to drink champagne on a random Saturday night. Yes, I could save it for special occasions but what would they be?

So yes - my question is, if you have champagne in your house, when would you drink it?

There is nothing more empowering than cracking open a bottle for no reason, we've been known to celebrate surviving a Tuesday

Right now because I won it at the Xmas raffle and only picked it up yesterday. A very good one too.

When I’m pissed and the good booze has ran out!

I think Lily Bollinger summed up quite nicely when drinking champagne was acceptable:

"I drink Champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it―unless I’m thirsty.”

We drink champagne whenever we want in this house. It used to be a special occasion but now we drink it on Friday’s if we are having a meal separately from the kids usually later in the evening, always “together” though.

“Always keep a bottle of Champagne in the fridge for special occasions. Sometimes, the special occasion is that you've got a bottle of Champagne in the fridge.” (Hester Browne)

Never, but I've recently seen a video on tik tok of an interview Tom Hanks did with I think Stephen Colbert (think thats his name) anyway Tom was saying how he had ordered a Diet Coke and asked for a shot of Champagne in it, and now it's all I want to try. But I'll have to buy Tescos own Champagne as I can't afford an expensive bottle 😊

MoscowMules · 14/01/2023 19:04

Whenever I fancy it 😳🤣

I've been known to buy myself a bottle of champagne and drink it, purely because I want to. I'll sit in my pj's binge watching Netflix drinking champagne 🤣

LemonDrizzles · 14/01/2023 19:05

So.... I like celebrating for about a month my birthdays so I'd likely open each Friday or Saturday depending what I have on the next day.

And taramasalata as a easy cheap quick pairing

DelilahBucket · 14/01/2023 19:05

Christmas day and new years eve if we're at home. I buy it throughout the year when I see a good price. We've got a bottle left over so we'll probably have that on Valentine's day.

I’m going to crack open a bottle tonight!

Thursa · 14/01/2023 19:05

I can’t stand it, but if I was regularly getting it as gifts I’d have the family open it and enjoy it when they fancied it.

im not a fan of keeping stuff for best/special occasions. My mum had a lovely china tea set, it was kept “for best”. She died without ever having a cup of tea out of it.

I bought a china dinner set. Kept it “till the kids are older”. We moved and it went missing. Now I wish I’d used it at least once, even if it was for nuggets and chips.

EspeciallyDetermined · 14/01/2023 19:07

Never, we don’t drink it at all. I’d re-gift it or donate it to a bottle tombola.

unsync · 14/01/2023 19:08

It's wine, just drink it when you like, no excuse needed.

OxanaVorontsova · 14/01/2023 19:11

Had a bottle tonight, it’s just wine

Mydogatemypurse · 14/01/2023 19:12

When people buy it for me. I don't really like it though.

eveoha · 14/01/2023 19:16

Only champagne I drink is S’bury’s Demi sec - Remember Oscar W’a warning 👍🏿☘️

Deeandra · 14/01/2023 19:18

If someone bought me champagne I wouldn't save it. It would get drunk like any other booze.

I wouldn't buy it to drink normally because it's expensive but once it's in the house it's just fizz.

Never save things for best.

Lcb123 · 14/01/2023 19:19

Birthdays, anniversary, Christmas. Or regift!

ProfYaffle · 14/01/2023 19:22

Sometimes I save it if there's a reasonable excuse on the horizon (got friends visiting from abroad next week so I've saved some good wine for then). If there isn't a reasonable excuse then I just drink it anyway.

NerrSnerr · 14/01/2023 19:28

On the very rare occasion we get given Champagne we drink it soon after, for no reason.

My in-laws have about 10 bottles of champagne they've been given over the years. They're saving it for a special occasion. Since I have met my husband there have been numerous milestone birthdays (we've been together 20 years), retirements, a wedding, 4 graduations, 2 babies and none of these occasional are worthy of the champagne.

PauliesWalnuts · 14/01/2023 19:29

I get bought it quite a lot because my friends know how much I love it. I drink it for Christmas, my birthday, etc but I lost my family when I was young so I always open a bottle when it’s my mum and dad and brother’s birthdays, and on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, and my parent’s anniversary. Cheers me up if I’m feeling mopey.

speakout · 14/01/2023 19:30

I don't mind champagne, but I avoid it as it makes me burp like a trucker.

Nowthatlovehasperished · 14/01/2023 19:31

As often as I can.

WaddleAway · 14/01/2023 19:32

Whenever I fancied it!
