Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I must take the trigger warning seriously and start skimming till I get to cat pics.

Glad you're enjoying it all, though, kuc. It must be lovely to have these tastes of home.

Kucinghitam · 27/01/2023 10:46

Sorry @weaseleyes! OK, here's a non-food one, taken this afternoon - tropical rainstorm approaching across central Kuala Lumpur, as seen from top of a high-rise tower. The sheer volume of the rain is awe-inspiring. If you were outside in it, you'd be soaked to the skin in seconds (but it's warm rain).

The mega-tall building is Menara 118. If you zoom in, you can also see the tops of the KL Tower and Petronas Towers poking out from behind some skyscrapers.

Fantastic photo!

SinnerBoy · 27/01/2023 10:56

Stay indoors!

Dotellhimpike · 27/01/2023 12:37

That looks amazing Kuc, I have added getting soaked in a tropical rainstorm to my bucket list

StephanieSuperpowers · 27/01/2023 12:43

For me, it's view a tropical rainstorm in person - from a window.

Actually, we went to Amalfi on holiday once and our hotel had a little balcony overlooking the sea (not unexpectedly) but there were amazing lightning storms and we were able to watch them from the balcony with a glass of wine in the evenings. Amazing.

Britinme · 27/01/2023 12:59

@Dotellhimpike getting me to open the front door then standing there half in, half out

My first cat, Winnie (short for Winchester), used to go to the back door and if it was raining he would turn around and go to the front door in case it wasn't raining on that side of the house.

weaseleyes · 27/01/2023 13:06

Ooh, I like that picture much better, looks fabulous!

Ginmonkeyagain · 27/01/2023 13:27

For British people "hot"bad weather is so confusing. This summer just gone we were in Nimes and one day there were winds of 50 mph but it was 38 degeees. It was like walking aroud in a hand drier.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 27/01/2023 13:32

Great photos Kuc. The food looks amazing., as does the storm. I am glad to live in UK with our generally equable weather but it is good to experience Proper Weather when on holiday.

Hah, Phoebe does that! She usually goes out through the cat flap in the back door, but if she sticks her head out and encounters rain or excessive cold, she goes to the front door and demands for someone to open it. And then, when the weather is inexplicably also bad there, she blames her useless human staff.

Amazing photo Kuc! Reminds me of a holiday in Mexico many years ago, where the days were glorious, and most nights there were amazing thunderstorms and torrential rain. One night a group of us were out for a meal and rather a few drinks, and decided to just embrace the rain, and got utterly soaked - it was marvellous.

Winterborne74 · 27/01/2023 14:26

Reminds me of my mother's last puppy on first encountering snow. She looked very excited to see all the white stuff through the patio door, put one paw outside onto the icy patio and beat a very rapid retreat with a look of shock, disappointment and outrage. How could we let her down like that?!

You'll certainly remember it. Many years ago, I was one of several crew wandering round the quayside in Fortaleza. They had quite a few sun shelters, just 4 posts with pitched tin rooves.

After a while, it started spitting. All the locals ran for the shelters and within seconds, we were too, as being pelted with *golf ball sized raindrops is rather painful.

I love storms.

Kasper’s Hmm face, and in all his round glory…

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn - thanks for the nudge! Yes, I've updated the thread.

Someone wants the mealworm dish refilling.

Awww! Lovely robins, they’re so bold and curious. When I walk through the woods with the cats and dogs there are always a few robins following us at a safe distance, flitting from branch to branch in my peripheral vision.

CyanCrystalViolet · 27/01/2023 16:51

What a beautiful and healthy-looking robin!

Tricyrtis2022 · 27/01/2023 16:58

We're getting similar, Bint. Both robins sitting on the woodshed and staring at the windows until one of us goes out to them. We are in thrall to them.

Britinme · 27/01/2023 19:15

I went back to the old place to look at the message that was left for us, and I think she had a fair point actually so I'm naming no names. I've basically cut myself off from it feeling that if my views are that unwelcome then I'm better off out of it, but I'm sad that some of the people with whom I had occasional friendly interactions and never thought badly of seem to feel that my views are too unacceptable to be discussed on a talkboard that I always thought was devoted to free speech. Also - given that my original foray into the Thread of Hate (™) was essentially to find out about something about which I knew very little, I'm very disappointed that there was no open discussion and defence of opposing viewpoints.

Winterborne74 · 27/01/2023 19:56

That is a very expectant looking robin - you can imagine him tapping his toes and muttering “get a move on!” under his breath.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 27/01/2023 20:03

Robins do get very importunate. My mother had one she used to feed grated cheese to - it sat on her hand. I never got on those terms with one, but always had attendants when gardening - evidently they think we're pigs (they naturally associate with wild boar in light woodland because the grubbing around exposes food).

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 27/01/2023 20:17

Sorry britinme, not meaning to be rude to you, but have no intention of going over there to engage with the sort of person who goes in for early hours aggressive posting.
