Offered something on Facebook .. now confronted by harrassment

Luckily I'm quite robust and couldn't give a damn but for your entertainment

I'm having a big clear out and putting things in Facebook and olio for people to take.

This morning I listed a play pen on a local group and after about half an hour.got a message from a lady who will come.and take.it this evening.. brilliant.

Just before marking it as taken gone got a message from.someone else

"Need this .. please drop off at X address between 3 and 5pm today" I replied saying it was taken and anyway collection only and left it at that.

Then received

" I can't believe you would give it away without even asking why I need it I bet I need it more than anyone else "

"You're so selfish I bet you sold it instead"

"You don't care about anything but clearing out your house you couldn't give a sh*t about a young mum like me"

"If you've got any other children's stuff message me and you can drop it over tomorrow, I need things"

"You obviously don't care if my child gets hurt because they dont have a play pen.. youve got to give it to me, dont be heartless"

" How am I supposed to come and get it Ive got children you need to drop it off today"

I ignored her and blocked her and now receiving stroppy messages from another person saying they're her friend, I'm victimising her,.I shouldn't just give things away without talking to people about what they need it for everyone deserves a chance..

and best of all:

" you should be dying of shame for treating a young mum like this I hope you carry the guilt.to your dying day"

WTAF ?????

I've blocked them too and await next messages with interest. I strongly suspect they "friend" is also her. I am having quite a boring day cleaning out the loft so this is brightening it up no end

Offered stair gate to.same lady taking play pen and she wants it so.thats good.

Sadly I suspect it is mental health issues, a "normal" person would just shrug their shoulders maybe send a message asking me to let them know.if original person changes their mind and leave it there.

In all seriousness, I reported a similar person as a safeguarding concern once. I got a heap of abusive messages when I advertised some free stuff and the person had a very open Facebook page. There was enough there to warrant raising it. The behaviour was really disturbing and there were a number of kids living in what appeared to be absolute chaos.
I’m sure nothing came of it but I felt better for saying something. Being threatened with violence over a Jumperoo and some other items isn’t the actions of a sensible parent!

jtaeapa · 13/01/2023 15:00

This is why I don't ever give stuff to individuals (unless I know them already). It just goes to the charity shop or tip. People are disgraceful.

red4321 · 13/01/2023 15:04

Facebook seems to be a magnet for weird behaviour.

Mine's full of people near demanding the likes of a nearly new 50 inch smart tv to be donated for free (with photo for pre-approval) and must be delivered.

I mean, fair play for their sheer audacity, but there's no element of being polite or grateful in any way.

VariantHela · 13/01/2023 15:06

What a weirdo

Thighlengthboots · 13/01/2023 15:07

Ive seen a few posts saying similar recently- people from FB expecting the free stuff to be dropped off to them when it suits THEM (no matter the distance), and then getting aggressive and nasty when the poster says no, come and collect it. Never mind the fact theyre getting it for free! Its honestly made me never want to do this via facebook and if I give away anything in future, it will be to a charity shop now.

Cuppasoupmonster · 13/01/2023 15:12

Haha what an entitled knob! How dare she just expect you to drop it off ‘between X and Y time’ who the fuck does she think she is!

Doyoumind · 13/01/2023 15:12

I'd actually interpret "I bet you've sold it" as "I was intending to sell it and now I can't". That seems to me to be what often goes on.

Pearlygates · 13/01/2023 15:13

This is very strange behavior. Entitlement at it's peak. These are people who has never and most likely will never work a day in their life. Strange.

deflatedbirthday · 13/01/2023 15:13

People are absolutely batshit. I think I live in a parallel universe sometimes! Good on you for finding the funny side.

Cuppasoupmonster · 13/01/2023 15:13

And does anyone get a bit suspicious of those ‘posting for my friend whose house has burned down including all the Christmas presents for her 7 children, we are a lovely community and sure we can make the kiddies Christmas magical by replacing them, just drop the gifts with me and I’ll make sure they get to her’

And people believe it!!!!!

Free stuff always seems to bring out the nutters. Every item I have put stuff on gumtree for free has attracted cheeky rude people.

I agree. People get very aggressive and then don't turn up for it anyway.

StubbleAndSqueak · 13/01/2023 15:14

I reckon it's teenagers pissing about. I'd be sad to think people are that thick

Arniesleftleg · 13/01/2023 15:15

Jeez! Facebook market place is the height of entertainment!

CampervanKween · 13/01/2023 15:15

Madness!

I actually got banned from our local group for something similar. I gave away a playhouse and the person who didn't get it reported me! So I couldn't contact the person who I'd said could have it.

Ended up selling it on ebay for a decent amount so they did me a favour in a roundabout way.

Usern74736363 · 13/01/2023 15:17

Pure cheek. I can't believe how entitled some people. I've had a few issues with marketplace etc but nothing on this scale.

I once listed a vtech root toot garage with accessories for £20 which was a bargain as it was like new as my kids weren't interested. A lady messaged me asking if I'd take £5, I said no sorry and I got verbally abused by her saying she could get it cheaper elsewhere. I felt like replying 'get it elsewhere then' 😅

Badger1970 · 13/01/2023 15:19

One of our DD's had borrowed an old TV from us when hers broke, and asked DH if he wanted it back. He was feeling generous, it was before Christmas and said he'd be happy if it went to someone in need so he listed it on FB.

He said 3 days later that he was never doing it again Grin He had demands to deliver it about 30 miles away, give to someone as a gift so could he wrap it and deliver it on christmas day, put it in a taxi (that he would have to pay for), and told that the batteries had better be in the remote or else!

gettingthere17 · 13/01/2023 15:21

Wow - entitled is she

ReformedWaywardTeen · 13/01/2023 15:21

As the admin of a local freebie group on Facebook, I would urge you to report both the accounts to admin.

I would ban someone for that immediately.

What a weapon

Ponderingtosk · 13/01/2023 15:21

OP if you don’t want money for it take it to a nice charity shop.

I believe I am neighbour targeted on FB marketplace because I refused to sell something to a woman who messed me around over a pickup. Every time I list something now the person who wants it NEVER comes, every time it’s a different person. It took me a couple of items to realise I can report and block so I’m doing that now every time it happens.

today I had stuff I wanted shot of and I just took it to the charity shop because I couldn’t face the stress of another no show.

Yup!

Campervangirl · 13/01/2023 15:22

Love this thread, absolutely bonkers.
I posted a child's bed on FB market place, heavy wood, carved headboard and footboard, immaculate condition with a spotless mattress.
Worth a bit of money.
I couldn't take it apart as it was too heavy, a bloke came round and stomped up and down stairs, muttering under his breath about having to dismantle it (stated it in the post but he must have ignored that part)
Unbelievable, when he left he didn't even say thanks, so I shouted "you're welcome" and he called me a cunt 😂

Campervangirl · 13/01/2023 15:23

Forgot to say I was giving it away for free 😂
