Does anyone have a dolls house? As a hobby?

I'm considering it and wanted to know if there were any enthusiasts out there

I have a lovely set of apothecary drawers on my now spare room and keep envisaging a genuine Edwardian or Victorian dolls house sat on it and then spending time sourcing period bits and pieces for it

Anyway, that's the current day dream and I wondered if anyone had a similar interest?

I've almost bought job lots of Dolls House furniture from EBay this afternoon & I don't even have a house! Yet! 🤣

I bought some mini brass pans for my as yet imaginary dolls house. DH has brought me a lemsip to bring my fever down 😅.

Oh, the little potting shed!! Utterly dreamy.

ChocChipOwl · 15/01/2023 19:54

@TroysMammy I love that last pic. Please tell me more about the era / where you source things. What house is it?

The potting shed is so sweet too

Thanks. The house also has a 3 roomed basement. It is late Victorian/early Edwardian and I bought it in 1998. I originally bought items off Dolls House Emporium but over the years and the birth of the internet I have sourced my items from other places. The step ladder in the hallway is because the light is broken. I wished I could have a tiny electrician to repair it.

I've also been to Kensington Dolls House Fair a few times. My next purchase will be to replace the bathroom with one from Hearth and Home Miniatures (either £175 or £295). I'm going to have to save up for that.

I've got it mentioned on my house contents insurance policy.

I just can't bring out the Triang flowers anymore alas! I've removed 4 layers of paint and that's it's- at the very front, I'm down to the original paint. Sadly the flowers look like mould!!

So I think I'll continue with my paint stripping as still about a third to do and then I'll have to repaint in cream

Shame really as I wanted to bring out the original flowers but no point when they look so rubbish

Need to decide what to do about flooring too. I like the idea of the original staying but it's quite damaged at the ends so probably needs a recover

There are two quite distinct (err ish!) little pink roses on the left as you look at it.

What I might do is stick something over them to cover and then paint everything cream. So there'll be two tiny little bits of original pink roses showing on the front.

All I can do I think

Do you make up the names @Giggorata

OP posts:
TrashyPanda · 15/01/2023 23:10

Have a look at Poppets Dolly Bits for flooring. I posted a link above. They have a huge range, from floor papers to rugs and carpets, in different scales

im loving seeing all the different houses!

Giggorata · 15/01/2023 23:10

@ChocChipOwl, yours is coming along so well, the time you've spent on it is certainly showing. Do you have time to sleep?
I'm dying to get the work on the (big) house finished, so I can get back into doing mine.

I name all of my witches and wizards after place names and features, so I've got a Saffron Walden, a Herne Bay, a Mavis Enderby and so forth. Fairies and Elves are named after herbs and spices.
The house names all have a witchy or magical context, so I have a Cobweb Cottage, a Moonstone Cottage, Beltane Bakery, Full Moon Fashions and so on.

TrashyPanda · 15/01/2023 23:18

Reutters do lovely bathroom sets (among other things)

this is the bathroom in Crail Cottage, which is a Greenleaf kit house from the US with an open back. The “tiles” on the walls are from Poppets and I made the blind

I want to visit cobweb cottage!! What a lovely hobby you've created for yourself @Giggorata - just so nice to lose yourself isn't it?

ChocChipOwl · 16/01/2023 08:06

@TrashyPanda I love that bathroom. You're so clever making the blind

I now think I want the Wentworth over on dolls house emporium! I think I want a modern house filled with miniature antiques.

So - wentworth filled with everything Victorian

My Triang filled with everything 1930s

Ah, it's starting, then. You're hooked. 😀🥂
And yes, I was lost years ago. Love it.

Giggorata · 16/01/2023 12:44

Forgive the double post but that bathroom! Lovely tiles, TrashyPanda.

ChocChipOwl · 16/01/2023 13:01

@Giggorata I've just bought my first miniature item for my dolls house.

I just couldn't resist!

She is delightful!

ChocChipOwl · 16/01/2023 14:15

She is isn't she?

She also wasn't cheap. So I can see this being an expensive hobby! I'm already sitting on my hands not to buy Wentworth Court

OP posts:
TrashyPanda · 16/01/2023 15:11

Oh she is fabulous!

what a find

ChocChipOwl · 16/01/2023 15:24

@TrashyPanda the problem I'll have is wanting to buy every single mini antique I come across that I fancy

Already got my eye on a velvet sofa
