Can’t believe my dog did this!

We rehomed our lovely dog 2 years ago and he is now 4 years old. He came to us from a very loving home
(re homing was for a genuine reason) and with a very sweet nature. We’re so lucky he’s slotted into our family perfectly. He’s definitely ‘my’ dog though, doesn’t bother much with the kids.

Earlier this evening I was in the kitchen and my son and daughter were playing in the lounge (rather roughly I suspect 🙄) and my daughter fell off the sofa onto her face. She’s only 3 so was VERY upset, really crying her eyes out. I was sat on the floor with her in my arms cuddling her and the dog came up and sniffed around us and walked away. Next thing, he reappeared with DDs favourite teddy in his mouth. He plopped it into her lap and sort of nudged it further into her. He then just sat next to us with his head resting on her leg. I was gobsmacked! He has NEVER done anything remotely like that! He’s not a ‘fetch’ kind of dog, so it was obvious he was trying to comfort her rather than play a game. I know this sounds crazy and most dogs have moments like this but I just felt so overwhelmed in that moment of just how much dogs understand human emotions.
My husband came home and I told him and he was totally nonplussed and just said ‘oh that’s nice’ 🙄
So I’m telling you! Now excuse me whilst I go cuddle my emotionally intelligent marvel of a dog 😂

Dogs are the absolute best.

What a lovely story xxx

I too was expecting a stressful story and had my heart melted without anticipating it! Aww ❤️

I have a nearly 8 year old chow. Had him since he was 6 wks. He has always been by my side through every trial. All dogs have an emotional I Q and your doggy brought a smile to my lips and tears to my eyes. Give him a hug and a rare steak!

Dogs are the best. As a kid one of our dogs was never that bothered about me, until whenever I was poorly, the she would lie next to me in bed snuggled up to me. Love them!

That's gorgeous op. Dogs are amazing. My 6 year old had flu the week before Christmas, was seriously poorly. Our jrt would not leave her side. He was attached to her the whole time she was ill in bed or the couch. They are full of love.

I was a bit upset about something the other day and very unusually for me I was crying and my dog came up laid next to me and wrapped his front legs round my arm like a cuddle . Has never done it before.

This is 1 of the best posts I’ve read on here. I thought it was going to be that he’d nipped one of you DC so got a lovely surprise & what a wonderful & amazing dog you have.

My DDog doesn’t give a rats ass about anyone bar himself!…..I absolutely adore him though.

Dogs are the best.

Noooooo not a cute dog wearing clothes!
I have pmt and I am too emotional for that photo!

Ps my dog constantly stands on us to get to her toys, bumps into us to get food, if we got robbed she would lick them to death but she can tell if something is wrong with our babies.

elfd · 09/01/2023 22:34

I love this. Your family is obviously loved by your dog. Not everyone gets to experience something like this, I'm jealous.

WhatDoYouWantNow · 09/01/2023 22:35

What a lovely dog.

This has made me cry. I'm a total wreck at the moment as my gorgeous 2 yo pup had a detached retina this week and had to have surgery to remove his eye so hearing lovely dog stories is wonderful.

unclebuck · 09/01/2023 22:50

ADORADBLE! 10/10

Aw that's absolutely lovely! What a sweet little dog 😍

PhoenixIsFlying · 09/01/2023 23:00

Oh I love dogs so much. Wonderful story.

I remember when my ex was standing over me shouting (he was scary when he lost his temper.) I was on the sofa with my doggy and she spread eagled herself over me and I knew she was protecting me 😍

ReginaPerrin · 09/01/2023 23:02

So sweet! When my brother got attacked and beaten up, our family dog never left his side for days. Such lovely souls.

pleaseletmesleeptonight · 09/01/2023 23:05

Whatever you do don't feed him steak!!

If you haven't heard the story a dog rescued a child from drowning in Paris, and was given a massive steak as a reward, the next day another child fell in and the same dog rescued him.

And was given steak.. they discovered after numerous cases of the dog and the multiple rescues that the dog was pushing the kids in.

Maybe a rubbish story and made up, but that's the kind of thing my pesky pack would do!

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 09/01/2023 23:09

That is such an adorable story. Dogs are amazing. I never get all the dog hate on here, so nice to see so many posters are loving it too.

And yes a piccy of the Goodest Boi would be lovely!

(If it's not too outing of course Grin)

edel2 · 09/01/2023 23:11

Omg what a gorgeous doggie 🥹❤️❤️❤️

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/01/2023 23:11

That’s so lovely! I can’t really cry due to being on anti depressants but I have twice and my dog immediately ran over and licked away all my tears. I couldn’t be sad after that.

Last night we took him to the pub for a drink with friends (very dog friendly country pub) and our friend’s DS who has autism was dropped off by his dad after his weekend with him. The little boy was clearly upset by his change in routine and wouldn’t speak to anyone or play with the other children. He hid under the table and the dog went under with him and leant against him. The little boy was immediately happy and gave him lots of strokes 🥰.
