I think it’s more likely the evidence suggests they aren’t able to met their baby’s needs rather than the placenta has been retained.
It’s been two weeks since she gave birth so she’d probably be quite poorly now if she had a retained placenta and the risk to her baby would be negligible but they keep saying it needs to be checked over.
I used to work in a hospital and we had a very similar situation to this. A heavily pregnant mum went missing from A&E and police appealed for help finding her, even using similar language to this appeal. The mum was actually a drug addict who’d already given birth to multiple babies who were addicted to heroin and didn’t have custody. She’d been told her baby would be removed at birth (best practice is to discuss well in advance if planned) so she ran when she thought labour was starting. She didn’t have the same resources at Constance so didn’t get too far before they found her.
I don’t have any idea if they’re using drugs but it doesn’t look great either way. They’ve been living a chaotic lifestyle in temporary accommodation after being evicted from a flat they trashed and damaged with fire, don’t seem to have custody of their other kids and the father is a registered sex offender. Those are just the details we know, there could be much more. And the police obviously feel it’s a high risk scenario, 200 is a lot of people.
