Who else is staying in by themselves tonight?

I was supposed to have 2 friends coming over to mine and then we were going to go out for some drinks. But both of them have come down with the flu that’s going round, so now my NYE is me staying in by myself (I live alone).

And to be honest, I am very happy with that! I am going to have some nice food, a glass of Prosecco maybe and might even just go to bed before midnight.

Who else is by themselves tonight?

I am home alone and fine. Going on holiday in a few days and don't want to catch anything

Whynowwhynow · 31/12/2022 19:15

At home, 3 young children under 6, everyone has this horrible cold/cough virus thing along with a viral eye infection or they have chicken pox. Hoping to have everyone in bed by 8pm watchjng a movie.

IntentionalError · 31/12/2022 19:19

I’m home alone tonight. DP has retired to bed with The Lurgy, so I won’t be hearing any more from him this year. I have recorded Breakfast at Tiffany’s so I’ll probably watch that with a 🍷.

Me. DH in hospital. Readmitted Boxing Day after only a few days back home after months in there, pneumonia. He's OK but this is the anniversary of the day he moved in (and we got engaged) so has always been special.

Wishing everyone out there, especially those struggling, a Happy New Year and 2023.

VioletLemon · 31/12/2022 19:45

Sending good wishes for your little rescue and you to have a better 2023 💐

beachcomber70 · 31/12/2022 19:46

On my own as usual. Glad I'm not out in the cold and wet but by a lovely fire after cooking a very nice curry.

I'll have a Bailey's on ice in a bit, watch some tv and snuggle down with a good book about 11. Lights out after the fireworks die down...usually by 12.30am.

Lovely.

I hope those feeling down will have a happier 2023. Remember, everything changes and often for the better. Nothing stays the same.

biscuiteer · 31/12/2022 19:51

Joining you, with take away and Netflix. Wishing you all a peaceful new year.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 31/12/2022 20:00

Dh is working nights, ds is out on the piss, so it’s me, the cat and the pooches. Waiting for a phone call, then I’m off to bed to watch something crap. Cheers everyone.

iRun2eatCake · 31/12/2022 20:03

DC 19yr and 15yrs have arrived back from their Dad's, so I'm now in bed eating pizza.

They usually come in just before midnight to hear the bells and watch London Fireworks.

Probably the last year of doing this altogether as 15yr old is going out with mates more now.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 31/12/2022 20:11

Me and the cat wish you all a very Happy New Year! He's spark out on the landing, I'm curled up in bed.

louderthan · 31/12/2022 20:14

Me, love it! DD2 is going to bed soon so I’ll chill, watch a bit of TV with some snacks and head to bed about 9 😊
I hate NYE. Always found it depressing, a party to celebrate ‘new year’ but you wake up the next day and it’s still the dead of winter. I’d prefer a party to welcome Spring!

I so agree with you about a party for spring!
DH and I are having a few drinks, watching movies and I'll do us a nice spread of cheese and crackers later.
I bought my house in the summer and plan to do our garden and have all our friends round for a barbecue in spring/summer. I'm becoming so much more of a summer person these days.

whowantssmore · 31/12/2022 20:19

Mee 🤚 I've got left over curry from last night's take away & a bottle of pink prosecco. Living my best NYE 🥂

Laneyly · 31/12/2022 20:20

I'm in by myself, I have the dog but she's more interested in peanut butter toast than cuddles. My husband is with some friends which is fine but I'm just gonna be on MN all night reading about other people's lives

SherryAndFight · 31/12/2022 20:20

Me! DP at work, DD in bed. I've just had a cup of tea and 4 bars of chocolate from the selection boxes. Probably be asleep by 10. Perfect

susannah32 · 31/12/2022 20:23

I am! I'm very happy about it!

susannah32 · 31/12/2022 20:24

Pretty much the same. I'm reading an interesting book on Mao with my dog and two of my cats next to me

XingMing · 31/12/2022 20:40

Sending positive vibes to everyone here. We're at home, as a family, but this has been a shitstorm of a year emotionally and commercially for us all, and none of us is in the mood to celebrate. Wishing everyone a much better 2023.

riotlady · 31/12/2022 20:42

Me! DH usually works NYE and 4yo DD is in bed. Going to sit in bed with a dominos and a good book

Talisin · 31/12/2022 20:43

Me! Just eaten, have a nice glass of wine on the go and am giving The Secrets of Dumbledore a whirl. Newt’s brother is hot but otherwise not feeling it so far. For later, I have saved a needless sequel to one of my all time favourite Christmas movies to hate-watch which should take me nicely into 2023 😁

TimeToLose8 · 31/12/2022 20:52

Me, and husband with long standing, slowly going lurgy. But even if he had been healthier, it would still be the same...off to bed in 10 minutes. I had planned a lovely 3 course meal, but just made a lovely steak and chips, but no wine as had too much last night.

I loved NYE when I was young, but haven't stayed up since 1999!

XingMing · 31/12/2022 21:05

Actually @TimeToLose8 I think that might have been my last year of seeing in NY. I had the most horrendous flu ever and a baby of eight months old.

MostTacticalNameChange · 31/12/2022 21:14

Yes, in alone with the animals - fireworks going off since sundown so lots of reassuring to be done. Macaroni cheese and port on the menu....seems i'm intent on getting gout!

Had a huge variety of NYEs in my time; local pub with mates, Jools Holland at home with family, bartending at country pub lock-in, guest in a yacht on Thames for fireworks, nightshift in adult social care, dinner at friends' houses, in a stable with a colicky horse, passing out a a rave after too much Glenns, breastfeeding nonstop from lunchtime 31/12 to lunchtime 1/1. Being in, alone, with zero obligation and stress, and no worries about getting home or spending a fortune is THE BEST.

Love and best wishes to all those grieving, heartbroken or under stress. It is completely shit, but it will pass...worse shit might be to come too, but things will become bearable eventually. Worst pep-talk ever, but it's coming from experience; don't give up hope. Here's to new year.

Ihavedogs · 31/12/2022 21:17

Me DH and the dogs. Still feeling after the sudden death of my father and subsequent treatment by his second family which resulted in me having to say goodbye without attending the funeral. This awful lurgy is still lingering, so have certainly felt better. Not looking forward to the prospect of having to stay up to soothe the dogs when fireworks start going off.

But, things could be so much worse than they are, so whilst I feel sad and worn out, I am full of hope that the New Year will bring joy and better times.
