What’s Everyone Up To For NYE?

As usual the week since Christmas has flown by & here we are again on the last day of the year. Is anyone doing much? For the last few years we have stayed at home, especially since having the bunnies as we need to bring them indoors because of the fireworks. DH & I are having sirloin steaks, chips, peas, breaded garlic mushrooms & ( for me) peppercorn sauce & I’m going to buy champagne from Aldi. DD14 hasn’t decided what she wants to eat yet. Probably McDonald’s. We’ll watch a film then Big Ben at midnight & the fireworks. Used to watch Love Actually but it’s a Christmas movie so we watch it on Christmas Eve or a couple of days after. Used to have big parties when I lived with my parents & we’d inherited a grand piano so ended up round that. Or I’d go clubbing & crawl in starving at 2am. I remember cooking loads of chicken nuggets & dipping them in guacamole - taste sensation!
Whatever you’re doing, Happy New Year!!

Nothing, bed before midnight with a good book😇

YesILikeItToo · 31/12/2022 17:29

I’m going to a smart hotel’s NY dinner. It starts alarmingly early. I’m on my own and a bit concerned about making it through to the fireworks….

Shiningstarr · 31/12/2022 17:35

I'm going to this really good place, it's called the living room if I remember rightly. You can wear whatever you want so that's good, and we're going to be eating Chinese food, and having whatever we want on TV, probably a good film.

I’ll be home alone. I’m working at 11 in the morning.

midsomermurderess · 31/12/2022 17:43

I fancy watching The Full Monty and then an early night. They have massive fireworks where I live so I’ll put on my noise-cancelling headphones and let it pass me by.

Ladyof2022 · 31/12/2022 17:59

Home alone, as usual.

the80sweregreat · 31/12/2022 18:02

Now watching Padadopalous and sons

Happy new year all

Hello @Silkierabbit
Know you from other threads. Hope you have a lovely night and a very happy 2023.

Gingerwarthog · 31/12/2022 18:18

Off to our neighbours/ friends for drinks to see in NY.
Probably not a late one but will be good fun and we'll end up dancing to 80s classics.
Currently making curry in slow cooker - DD and DH on screens, house cleaned, cats have commandeered couch/ leather armchair and snoring.
Need to get ready at some point as it would probably be rude to turn up with chlorine soaked hair and a club hoodie on.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 31/12/2022 18:18

For the firstctime in years i am going out out!
Dh and i and another couple are going to the local pub which has a dj on etc
Just sitting thinking aboutc lothes and make up!

Zipps · 31/12/2022 18:20

We're going to a friend's house for a party. We regularly socialise with most of the guests so we're really looking forward to it. They are brilliant hosts and have a barn at the bottom of their garden with a dance floor, dj and snack food. We all take some drinks.
We actually went to a party last night and didn't get in until 3am so New Year's Day we haven't got any plans other than a recovery walk with the dogs.

NormalForNuneaton · 31/12/2022 18:25

DP and I are heading to some friends who live a few minutes walk away (which is very handy for a stumble home later!). We'll have a long dinner (curry), taking our time between courses and drinks, lots of chatter....all pretty chilled really.

I've just got to try and stay awake. I'm usually in bed by 10pm!

ThreeRingCircus · 31/12/2022 18:30

Since having DC we don't go on a night out for NYE and actually much prefer it but like marking the day somehow. We went out for lunch with friends and their children earlier, it means we feel we have socialised but are home to put DDs in bed. Later DH and I will have party food and share a bottle of champagne. We'll stay up to see the fireworks on the TV then straight to bed.

Roast dinner and a long walk tomorrow to blow the cobwebs away.

GrouchyKiwi · 31/12/2022 18:31

DH and I are finally going to listen to Blackstar. We bought it when it was released, then I was too sad to listen to it after Bowie died, and then I had depression so it seemed too sad and we just never got around to it. So tonight we'll share a bottle of wine and listen to the album, and then watch a bad creature film like Lake Placid (I need to choose one). And if we manage to stay awake long enough to ring in the bells then we'll probably put Jools Holland on for that bit.

Thank you, believe me, I needed that hug. You're very kind.

Have a lovely New Year's Eve and have a lovely new year.

An 18 hour shift at a hospital

Getting increasingly stupid calls as drunks are going through their mail and texts and getting bees in their bonnets about routine appointments which can't be dealt with out of hours

It will get worse and weirder as the night progresses.

Roll on 0800

Always4Brenner · 31/12/2022 18:43

Hugs to everyone working tonight one 0f the worst of the year. Hugs to all I’ll enjoy whatever you’re doing, I don’t celebrate nye so it’s 8 hours of stranger things buffet food chocolates. Bed about 10 or 11 talking book. Then tomorrow I’ll rejoice.
