What’s Everyone Up To For NYE?

As usual the week since Christmas has flown by & here we are again on the last day of the year. Is anyone doing much? For the last few years we have stayed at home, especially since having the bunnies as we need to bring them indoors because of the fireworks. DH & I are having sirloin steaks, chips, peas, breaded garlic mushrooms & ( for me) peppercorn sauce & I’m going to buy champagne from Aldi. DD14 hasn’t decided what she wants to eat yet. Probably McDonald’s. We’ll watch a film then Big Ben at midnight & the fireworks. Used to watch Love Actually but it’s a Christmas movie so we watch it on Christmas Eve or a couple of days after. Used to have big parties when I lived with my parents & we’d inherited a grand piano so ended up round that. Or I’d go clubbing & crawl in starving at 2am. I remember cooking loads of chicken nuggets & dipping them in guacamole - taste sensation!
Whatever you’re doing, Happy New Year!!

2 lots of friends and a 3 yr old coming over. Little one will play with the our 3 yr old they've chosen pizza, potato faces and angel delight for dinner.

For us adults, 1 couple is doing mains. The other starters and cocktails. I'm on desert and nibbles.

Games, music, fire etc

Friends with kid will stay over if we feel up for a late one. Play it by ear with the kids.

Hogmanay with extended family.

Traditional meal, booze, games, 'Ooh the Banter' on the tellybox and The Bells.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 31/12/2022 11:26

I’m not a fan of NYE, I’ve turned down 2 different party invites to stay at home on my own! I’ll be eating nice snacky food and watching a film, while worrying and hoping that teenage DD isn’t going too crazy at her party.

Working till 10pm then back in again at 7am so it'll be a quick see the new year in and straight to bed. May call at a shop and buy a small can of gin and ginger ale to see it in.

Cooper1272 · 31/12/2022 11:31

@MardyMincepie

Not a lot, but my husband has suggested something that might actually work. It involves a boiler suit and a big spanner!

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 31/12/2022 11:32

Hoping to be asleep before the fireworks start. I'm meeting a friend for a long walk tomorrow so will need to be up bright and early.

I have a good book on the go and will probably phone another friend who is on her own, but too far away to visit.

Colourinsidethelines · 31/12/2022 11:47

We are going to my brother’s for tea with all the DC. Then will be home and kids in bed for 8. Me and DH will then have a few drinks and some nice snacks till midnight then bed shortly after! Nothing exciting but I’ve never liked going out NYE anyway.

coffeepleeease · 31/12/2022 11:48

Single mum to DD (6) so nothing at all, will be in bed before midnight

thelmaandlewis · 31/12/2022 11:50

Going for a meal this afternoon but will probably be home by 4-5pm. Have young dc so once they're in bed dh and I will probably open a bottle of wine and maybe have some party food while we watch a film. Annoyed that we've already watched Glass Onion because that would have been a good one for tonight. I doubt we'll make it to midnight but if so we'll watch Big Ben and toast the new year.

Halloumi22 · 31/12/2022 11:55

It’s my birthday, spending it alone heavily pregnant with my toddler as DH is out all day and into the late evening working. The birthday sadness is real.
Damn having the police in our lives as a job!

Honestmary · 31/12/2022 11:58

I’m on call, funeral directors. My husband is doing a nibbly buffet which won’t spoil if I’m called out and we will probably rewatch our fave films

CeriB82 · 31/12/2022 12:04

Im alone all day until 8. Chinese takeaway booked, lighting the fire and chill and bed well before 12.

Today im mainly cleaning

We're having fireworks (early though, before 7 is the aim so we don't disturb young children's bedtimes or wake them up, rather than at midnight. Hopefully it stops raining before then), sauna, doing a buffet with the traditional Finnish New Year's Eve fare of frankfurters and potato salads, and then more interesting things because frankly that's really boring food Grin then we shall play board games until midnight. DD11 will stay up and play with us, DS4 will go to bed a bit later than usual but way before midnight because he cannot handle a late night.

Our own family tradition is a questionnaire we fill out with the children each year, same questions each year, and then see how the answers have changed from the year before. Its fun looking over the old ones, I had forgotten that DS, then 3, said he wants to be a murder cat when he grows up Grin

I love this idea. What kind of questions do you do @Natsku?

Best thing / worst thing about 2022? What are you looking forward to? That kind of thing?

KatieGalPal · 31/12/2022 12:09

I have tickets for a local hotel who are having a buffet/band on. But I feel terrible cold and cough, sore throat etc so I’m going have to cancel. I am gutted as I’m a nurse, worked all over Christmas and now have a week off and I’m ill 😷 . So it’ll be a takeaway, a baileys and an early night for me. I’ll tell DP to still go without me

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 31/12/2022 12:38

My dd is 3 in a couple of days so we are having a bit of a party with our extended family this afternoon.

Thekormachameleon · 31/12/2022 10:38

12 hour shift at work - ambulance service - pray for me 🤣

Oh no, I take it this is one of the busiest nights of the year

Ostryga · 31/12/2022 12:43

Heading my friend’s this afternoon for canapés and Prosecco and then going to a bar her husband is playing in to see in the new year.

Our other friend just ended his 5 year relationship last night after cheating came out so it’s all hands on deck to keep him in good spirits tonight.

Frenchyq25 · 31/12/2022 12:45

Me and ds16 cooking food for a buffet later...he's doing most of it as I tested positive for COVID this morning so feeling a bit crap..DH has gone to get supplies for me. So will no doubt just watch TV and be asleep before midnight.

Yeah that kind of thing and things like nickname, favourite colour/song/film etc., best friend, as its interesting to see how those change as they get older. Which reminds me, I better write up this year's one ready (maybe one day I'll think to type them up and print out ahead of time for each year but printer is low on ink so not this year)

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/12/2022 12:51

Roast, red wine, bed 10'ish and read. Probably get woken up by bastard fireworks at midnight.

MarcelEtCeleste · 31/12/2022 12:53

Stupidly didn’t arrange anything for this evening and DC are a bit upset. They’re at the age where they want to do something fun and different - staying in with just us is boring.

Various food allergies mean fun party food/takeaway isn’t an option and everyone we know is either ill, has plans already or doesn’t ever celebrate NY, so can’t invite anyone over. I’m kicking myself!

I do have table dressings to make dinner special, there’s a film DC want to watch, which will while away the evening, and then party poppers and Big Ben at midnight. Not sure there’s anything else I can arrange at this point.

I must remember to plan something social next year!!

Alittlebitofthis · 31/12/2022 13:03

First of 4 nightshifts for me.
I got Xmas off though which I'd rather have had.

littlemissalwaystired · 31/12/2022 13:12

Got to be a functioning midwife for the long day tomorrow so cosy night in with my DP and a reasonable bed time. WildGrinBrew

MonkeyPuddle · 31/12/2022 13:51

Well, DS has managed to shit on the floor. So much washing done.

OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside · 31/12/2022 14:51

Our local Chinese has done (as in previous years) pre orders for a banquet meal so we have the neighbours round for a Chinese and games
Not telly naff all on telly!!
