What’s Everyone Up To For NYE?

As usual the week since Christmas has flown by & here we are again on the last day of the year. Is anyone doing much? For the last few years we have stayed at home, especially since having the bunnies as we need to bring them indoors because of the fireworks. DH & I are having sirloin steaks, chips, peas, breaded garlic mushrooms & ( for me) peppercorn sauce & I’m going to buy champagne from Aldi. DD14 hasn’t decided what she wants to eat yet. Probably McDonald’s. We’ll watch a film then Big Ben at midnight & the fireworks. Used to watch Love Actually but it’s a Christmas movie so we watch it on Christmas Eve or a couple of days after. Used to have big parties when I lived with my parents & we’d inherited a grand piano so ended up round that. Or I’d go clubbing & crawl in starving at 2am. I remember cooking loads of chicken nuggets & dipping them in guacamole - taste sensation!
Whatever you’re doing, Happy New Year!!

DH will be playing a gig. First time we've not seen it in together in about 20 years. So I will play some games with DD. Was invited to a party but it's in my home town and I don't want to pay for a hotel. I don't feel that bad about it but feel like I should Grin

Stupidly didn’t arrange anything for this evening and DC are a bit upset. They’re at the age where they want to do something fun and different - staying in with just us is boring.

Various food allergies mean fun party food/takeaway isn’t an option and everyone we know is either ill, has plans already or doesn’t ever celebrate NY, so can’t invite anyone over. I’m kicking myself!

I do have table dressings to make dinner special, there’s a film DC want to watch, which will while away the evening, and then party poppers and Big Ben at midnight. Not sure there’s anything else I can arrange at this point.

I must remember to plan something social next year!!

We're meeting friends at pizza express for New Year's Day lunch tomorrow with our kids it might be worth calling your local fave restaurant seeing what availability they have

My friend and I (DP won't come as they don't allow smoking 🤔) are staying in a luxury glamping pod in rural Northumberland and we are going out for dinner at a local pub and then get our pjs on and have a pamper night and play games! I'll have fizz but she is 6 months pregnant so won't drink

Absolutely can't wait!

That sounds amazing!!!

I used to love NYE and had some memorable ones.
Not been out on NYE since 1994.
1995 I was 42 weeks pregnant with DC1 who will soon be 27.
Just never got back into it but actually would quite like to go out, not going to happen though. Younger DC has been home for a couple of weeks and is meeting up with some of his old friends who are spread all over the country working and have also come home for Christmas. We live in a village and DH is taxi tonight for DC.
I'll be in bed at 10.

moolady1977 · 31/12/2022 15:57

I might have a few drinks and be in bed for about 10 as off to the coast tomorrow for a walk on the beach and blow away 2022

Hosting a Hungarian dinner party.

Wow that sounds good, what will you be serving?

JosieB68 · 31/12/2022 15:59

I’m currently pregnant and battling hyperemesis so instead of having my head down the toilet from too much alcohol it’s down the toilet for a completely different reason. As awful as it is it’s definitely a happy new year.

flooredbutfree · 31/12/2022 16:18

Spending it on my own. I've bought Prosecco, gu puddings and raspberries and I'm going to cook steak with chips, stuffed portobello mushrooms and homemade blue cheese sauce. I'll find a film to watch and then stand on my balcony at midnight and watch the fireworks - exactly the same as last year!

Any film recommendations would be much appreciated 😁

TrifledOut · 31/12/2022 16:24

Happily staying at home! We took our teens out for dinner and to the cinema last year, which was nice, but couldn’t agree on a film this year and the weather is dreadful, so decided against going out.

Getting a takeaway later, and will probably watch a film. DS and DH want to stay up to see the new year in, but I’m thinking about a bath and a good book in bed to be totally honest! DD has a friend staying over (her parents are actually going OUT out Grin), so no doubt they’ll stay up late giggling and getting up to mischief.

I feel quite relieved to be staying in. I’ve never liked NYE.

Going for an early walk tomorrow to blow out the cobwebs, and then the last big family meal for a while before I explode with overeating…

harktheherold · 31/12/2022 16:27

At home with DH and DD. Fire burning, champagne, curry, jigsaw puzzles, movies Smile

MillenialAvocado · 31/12/2022 16:31

My parents are visiting so we're currently watching a film, will get a takeaway later and I've got some snacks and Prosecco. My parents aren't planning to stay up until midnight so will just be me and DH watching the fireworks. Glad there are others not doing much too Grin I like NYE but not fussed about going out for it anymore

HaggisWurst · 31/12/2022 16:42

We have a 2 and a half year old so I'm not expecting a good night sleep tonight 😅 I'm also 35 weeks pregnant. DH and I are having a cosy night after we put DS to bed. We'll watch a movie, drink hot chocolate with marshmallows and toast in 2023... Will be a crazy one for us adding another addition.

RedBonnet · 31/12/2022 16:52

Always loved nye and used to do 1st foot, open front and back door, generally celebrate at home or whatever but always stayed up to see the new year in. Sadly this year we have a deranged 7mo puppy who has driven us to distraction so for the 1st time in over 40 years I don't actually care what happens 😔

evtheria · 31/12/2022 16:57

Well I hadn't planned much, as I don't really care about NY, but managed to squeeze in a massive, bitter fight with a sibling so go me, starting 2023 with a bang.

LindorDoubleChoc · 31/12/2022 16:59

DH and I are going to the cinema then home for a late pizza and maybe I'll stay awake long enough to see in the New Year.

I've had a very stressful Christmas Sad and everything's rather bleak at the moment. I certainly don't feel like celebrating anything.

Sereyah · 31/12/2022 17:00

Falling asleep now after pouring a glass of wine with tea so I very much doubt I’m making it until midnight. However I plan on a full clean of the house so I can relax tomorrow with nothing to do. Both children bathed and in bed early. Hopefully something to watch on the tv but with two little ones I’ve never gone on out nye I’ve always stayed in. I went out prior to having them and occasionally family New Year’s parties but I think everyone is opting for a more low key evening this year

parsniiips · 31/12/2022 17:04

Nice food, few drinks, snacks, movie, maybe a board game.

I've never loved going out for New Years Eve.
Cold.
Usually pisses down. (It is tonight)
Costs way more than a normal night out.
Endless queues for taxis.
I don't enjoy it at-all it just feels forced.

I'm really happy in the house watching the rain and being cosy.

Silkierabbit · 31/12/2022 17:04

At a friends house in Paris for a NYE party with lots of lovely French food then a disco. Been an awful 2022 with cancer and a sectioned child so hoping 2023 will be better.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 31/12/2022 17:08

I'm not a big fan of NYE so I'm delighted to be working tomorrow and going to bed early for my 5am alarm.
I am looking forward to my New Years dinner though band just hope I can stay awake to enjoy it!

petalblossom · 31/12/2022 17:12

A Chinese takeaway and a few glasses of wine, not enough to feel hungover tomorrow as I like to wake up fresh for New Year's Day. Maybe a board game or two while we wait for midnight and then watch everyone's fireworks from the front garden. Tomorrow it's up and out for a walk over the fields and along the riverbank before heading home for a roast. It's sad but We may also have to take down the tree and decorations tomorrow, so I may finish off the Christmas Port while I do that!

Bagpuss2022 · 31/12/2022 17:13

What we always do a nice Take away films a few drinks then fireworks older two Ds are out out with friends and DD has two friends stopping over

DelilahBucket · 31/12/2022 17:18

We're going to a party at a restaurant. It's DS's first new years out at nearly 15 so he's excited and we're meeting some friends there. We normally stay in as there hasn't been anything local enough to walk home previously where DS can come along so it will make a nice change.

dudsville · 31/12/2022 17:20

Happy NYE to those who are celebrating! I used to love a NYE party! For the last 15 years I've had more quiet evenings, used to still have nice food and champagne, and always looked forward to a NYDay walk with friends. Last year I think we were asleep by 10 though. Tonight my OH is making a delicious healthy curry. I started Dry January a few days ago. We're going to watch a film and go to bed early where I'll read in bed for a while, but I look back on past NYE's with fond memories!

Wishihadanalgorithm · 31/12/2022 17:26

The three of us (me, DP, and DD) went out for lunch. Now home with the washing on and wearing PJ’s. Nothing exciting planned but will probably stay up and see the NY in.

Never been a fan of going out for NY so happy with what we are up to.

MintyPrincess · 31/12/2022 17:26

Going TGI Fridays for a meal then coming home for pink prosecco and a film
