Do you let your dog sleep on your bed? I just imagine this is the most cosy feeling ever

I do not have a dog but thinking of getting one

I don't sleep with my dogs. One of them is very licky. She likes to lick my mouth. They are good for a cuddle on the sofa but I need a proper nights sleep.

Your cat is very kind to allow you to sleep in her bed.

Haha, indeed!

Iseethesilverlining · 30/12/2022 09:41

Yes! Cavachon - just the right size to share a bed and doesn’t shed. She sleeps soundly and is great at having a lie-in - she hasn’t asked to get up yet as it’s a day off and we’re still in bed! She sleeps with her head on my hip. Cat also sleeps on the bed, tucked in on my other side. I find it hard to sleep without them and when I wake up it’s so reassuring to have them there to stroke. They don’t fuss or smell or make noise. DH’s snoring on the other hand…..!!

My dog used to get on half way through the night, it sounds lovely and cuddly but he was huge and poked his paws in my back or suck his huge snout in my face and breathed all over me.

comfortablylesslumpy · 30/12/2022 09:43

Yes, but small, resoectdul of my space, non-shedding and doesn't fart.

The complete opposite of my ex.

Also in times of saving the heating, a useful source of warmth.

Previously had labrador, and that was a no. Too big and hairy.

comfortablylesslumpy · 30/12/2022 09:44

*respectful ffs.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 30/12/2022 09:44

Our DD comes and snuggles in between DH and I if he's cold in the night, it's very sweet. Slightly disconcerting when he gives me a whiskery kiss before settling down, but very sweet.

gogohmm · 30/12/2022 09:47

Ddog doesn't like coming upstairs, he's allowed he just chooses not too. His bed is under the desk, he likes to be under things

Mine sleeps in the middle between us, head on pillow duvet up to his chin and faces me.
I can only properly sleep when he is there. His breathing, warmth and presence makes me feel completely safe.
My husband is a deep sleeper, but my beautiful dog will alert me if needed. He’s small but has a loud bark and I know it would deter an intruder.
when we go on holiday I cannot sleep without him.
He’s a rescue dog, so we got him aged 2. First night home as a complete stranger he jumped in with us assumed his regular place and nodded off. It was like having a stranger in bed pressed up to me. All while our original dog looked up from her little dog bed on the floor.
She sometimes now sleeps with us at the bottom of the bed she’s tiny and scared of getting squashed, but generally stays in her bed. She’s everyone’s little sweetheart.
He is my whole heart.

I love everything about this post

Oh our dog loves sleeping on our bed! She's pretty small though (9kg) and doesn't moult. It's just lovely waking up with her snuggled up next to me.

SpeckledlyHen · 30/12/2022 09:50

Stellaris22 · 30/12/2022 08:11

Our basset is only allowed in our bed in winter for warmth, it's lovely. She insists on being under the duvet too!

my basset doesn’t sleep on the bed anymore due to her age and I moved to a house where I couldn’t fit in a ramp for her to get in the bed. But when she used to sleep on the bed she would get under the duvet and often have her head on the pillow. It was so sweet.

StarDolphins · 30/12/2022 09:50

My dog sleeps in either my bed or my DD’s, he chooses! I love it, he’s small & just doesn’t move all night!

Glittersparkle76 · 30/12/2022 09:52

Yes!!
I have a Jack Russell x Chihuahua and she snuggles under the quilt with me and tucks herself at the back of my legs if I'm on my side.We love to have snuggles together and I love to feel her little warm body on my legs.Beats sharing a bed with a man anyday!

BreviloquentBastard · 30/12/2022 09:53

No, my dogs are far too big and hairy and smelly. I like my bed to be clean and not full of grit. They're great for sofa cuddles but the bed is sacred.

paleviolet · 30/12/2022 09:57

Yes, we do. She cuddles into one of our backs. Love it.

BashfulClam · 30/12/2022 09:58

Ours used to choose which bed she was going to inhabit when I was younger. She’d sleep next to my mum if my dad was on nightshift, she was a great hairy, shedding lump, but was also warm and cuddly. She’d also get in with my dad during the day if he was sleeping between shifts. She used to ‘patrol’ the house at night, she’d check each person was on the go and lie behind the door for a while then back up once she was sure everything was ok.

GhostCastle · 30/12/2022 10:01

Our dog sleeps with us. I love waking up to him cuddled up next to me. I think DH is a bit jealous of him!😂

BeansOnToast32 · 30/12/2022 10:01

My puppy doesn't start off in my bed, she sleeps in a bed next to it and ends up getting in my bed between 5-6am. I absolutely love it, you can't wake up grumpy when you've got a puppy curled my next to you. I usually lift her up and she gets straight under the covers and puts her head on my arm to sleep. 🥰

I don't care about whether it's hygienic or not, bedding gets washed frequently and she's a bit of a princess, she hates going out walking in the rain/mud and cleans/drys her own feet every time she comes back into the house from walks/the garden. She doesn't like having dirty feet.

This is a thread of 2 halves, those with Labs and those without 😂

Our dog that we share our bed with is a lab!

Mine is allowed on the bed - she's by my feet now. However at night time once I turn off the light and lay down she takes about 1 minute and then she'll go and get on her own bed. Probably for the best, she is a German shepherd so takes up about a quarter of the bed on her own

@HappyKoala56 , I haven’t read the whole thread but I just had to reply to you. I have a German shepherd. She has a bed in our room but at bedtime she gets on the end of our bed. When we have washed and brushed up and settled down to sleep she gets down and curls up in her own bed. Then as she hears me stir in the morning she very politely asks permission to get back up on the bed and curls up near our feet, usually resting her chin on my leg. I love it.

StillMedusa · 30/12/2022 10:08

Ours..big double coated ..usually tucks herself under the bed (she literally has to slide under as she's too big to fit) but if Dh goes to work on an early shift..4 am she'll sneak up and I wake to find her in his spot, all spread out and very comfy !

I currently have my brother's 7kg little dog staying with me, and he has slept every night on the bed, so my girl has decided she had better join us. It's a bit cramped!
They have both ignored the lovely comfy dog bed on the floor!

I don't mind.. bedding is washed frequently and they are wormed and flea treated. And unlike Dh they don't snore or fart all night!

LoveHeartsFan · 30/12/2022 10:11

No. Allowing animals on your bed is grim and unhygienic (and I am very far from houseproud). I love dogs and come from a dog-loving family, but they are dogs, not children.

It makes a rod for your own back as it gives the dog or cat a false idea about their place in the pecking order. I know of someone who won’t get up to go to the loo in the middle of the night in case it wakes the dog, so sacrifices her own comfort and sleep. An animal ruling the roost like that isn’t endearing, it’s a nuisance.

A bedroom is for sleep and private intimacy. That extends to keeping animals firmly out of the bedroom. There’s enough threads on here about children accidentally walking in on parents.

It’s basic. Dogs sleep in their own bed downstairs. End of.

Aquasulis · 30/12/2022 10:13

I currently had three lab taking up about 2/3 of a king size bed - all with their paws around each other and heads resting on each other. Occasionally one will open their eyes and adjust slightly and then go back to snoring. They are on top of the duvet on top of the blanket

Allsnotwell · 30/12/2022 10:14

We used to dog sit a small breed. Often found wrapped around DHs head!
Ours starts off down the bottom most nights and creeps up to the pillow if it’s really cold so he’s between us both.
He also nudges his fat arse closer when cold!
