Do you let your dog sleep on your bed? I just imagine this is the most cosy feeling ever

I do not have a dog but thinking of getting one

Mine doesn't sleep here but she comes in in the early morning like a hairy tornado. She's a bitey little bugger at the moment (6 months) and is currently lying next to me pulverising an antler. It's like lying next to a crocodile.

Surreality22 · 30/12/2022 08:39

I have a cat who sleeps in bed with me and you'd think she's a German Shepherd the amount of room she takes up! It's great though she starts off on my chest having cuddles purring away, then either falls asleep under my arm or down by my feet. I never meant to let her sleep with me and when my cat disliking DM asks where "it" sleeps I just say "Wherever she wants". 😺

Itslookinggood · 30/12/2022 08:41

Yes and it’s so cosy. She’s a small, non-shedding type though.

she chats away in her sleep and Dog Dreams are clearly great, going by the contented sighs.😀

Do you enjoy being body slammed by a hairy hippo at 3am or waking up to a bumhole about three inches from your face?

If the answer is no to the above you wouldn’t like sharing a bed with a dog!

Definitely this.
Ive just woken up to ddog lying length ways across the pillow (small dog) my nose was next to her bumhole 🙄
I also didn't realise that she did silent but deadly farts, there's no warning sound before she lets rip and she stinks!
She has to bite her toes for 10 minutes when we go to bed and kicks me if I encroach on her space.
I inherited ddog when DM passed away, she always slept with ddog so we've struggled to break the habit.
Our solution??? We've just bought a super king bed to accommodate ddog, I'm now officially a furbaby mummy 😛

Yes. My dog is an excellent hot cocker bottle. He snuggles up in my arms and doesn’t move for the whole night. He does snore, but his snoring is adorable, whereas DH’s snoring makes me want to smother him with a pillow.

Also, my dog doesn’t fart. DH, on the other hand . . .

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/12/2022 08:48

Our small Jack Russell takes up a surprising amount of room on the bed and puts down 'anchors' so you can't mover her but we don't mind. For some reason she decided during the first Lockdown that she was going to sleep with us.

MajesticElephant · 30/12/2022 08:49

Current DDog is a greyhound so no room, plus he prefers the sofa! Previous DDog was a Staffie and always ended up curled up by my feet regardless of where in the house he started!

Iamblossom · 30/12/2022 08:49

The daily battle I face with dog hair from my black lab, downstairs in our house where is allowed, prevents me ever allowing him anywhere near my bed.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/12/2022 08:50

I have 2 who sleep cuddled up to me all night - they keep me warm and if I wake up they magically wake too and comfort me

Cosiest feeling ever

SavouryFlavour · 30/12/2022 08:51

I would love to have an emperor size bed for me, DH and the dogs but they're not allowed upstairs, in order to preserve one small area of the house that smells only of human beings. Also a friend used to let his dachshund sleep on the bed... until it fell off and injured its spine horribly. That was enough to rule it out for me.

Wotrewelookinat · 30/12/2022 08:51

Nope. My dog starts faffing in the night…licking herself, scratching, shaking, loud yawning etc. And she likes her own space so has always slept downstairs.

runforyourdog · 30/12/2022 08:51

Mine just comes up in a morning if I have a lie in after DH has got up. It's lovely to have a cuddle but I wouldn't want him on there all the time.. a bit like the kids!

BarrelOfOtters · 30/12/2022 08:54

In retrospect we’d never had allowed her on the bed. But DH loves it, even when she does her 4.30 ‘are you alive’ lick. She moves around the room all night until 6.30 when she goes absolutely fast asleep.

she farts.

she barks like a mad thing when the cat scratches on the door for his breakfast (he’s not allowed in to sleep).

the sleeping tucked in behind my knees is cute.

and for a medium sized dog she sure takes up a lot of space….

EileenAdler · 30/12/2022 08:55

Dogs are disgusting. I have two Labradors. They roll in fox shit, which makes them stink, and will eat cat shit. They dive into brackish water and get covered in mud. So not only do I not have them on my bed they are not allowed upstairs or in the dining room or any of the living rooms. They sleep in the laundry, it’s warm and cosy in there.

Maraudingmarauders · 30/12/2022 08:55

I have a lurcher. She spends the night downstairs but then comes up for a snooze on a weekend when we have a lie in (no kids)

It's very sweet - she lies like a human between me and DH and is a lovely hot water bottle. Unfortunately there is also a regular and real risk of being disemboweled by her back feet as she kicks like a kangaroo. She's a vivid dreamer and twitches like crazy and she takes up so much room - even in a super king bed we are squeezed. Too many legs and pointy bits.

pilates · 30/12/2022 08:59

Yes but he is small and non-shedding.
He also doesn’t move in his sleep.

FindingMeno · 30/12/2022 09:01

No.
He's a stinky boy and he snores.

Tumbleweed101 · 30/12/2022 09:04

I don’t sleep with our dogs and my bedroom is a no dog zone. My children however love having the dogs on their bed at night.

Your cat is very kind to allow you to sleep in her bed.

GeneticallyModifiedGrump · 30/12/2022 09:04

Absolutely! A medium sized spaniel is the perfect sleeping companion.
Yes, it's apparently unhygienic (I'm not dead yet though so......) and she sometimes takes up more space than I do but she is just the most adorable girl so I put up with it😊

Whengodwasarabbit · 30/12/2022 09:06

Mine sleeps in the middle between us, head on pillow duvet up to his chin and faces me.
I can only properly sleep when he is there. His breathing, warmth and presence makes me feel completely safe.
My husband is a deep sleeper, but my beautiful dog will alert me if needed. He’s small but has a loud bark and I know it would deter an intruder.
when we go on holiday I cannot sleep without him.
He’s a rescue dog, so we got him aged 2. First night home as a complete stranger he jumped in with us assumed his regular place and nodded off. It was like having a stranger in bed pressed up to me. All while our original dog looked up from her little dog bed on the floor.
She sometimes now sleeps with us at the bottom of the bed she’s tiny and scared of getting squashed, but generally stays in her bed. She’s everyone’s little sweetheart.
He is my whole heart.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 30/12/2022 09:07

Yes she does. She's a miniature poodle so non shedding and not the typical dog smell. She's 6kg.

We started off not allowing her upstairs etc etc. Then she had a bed in our room. Then I let her up when DH was away for work. Then she snuck up and quietly slept at our feet. Now she pays lip service to her own bed by lying in there while we get ready for bed and 'silently' comes up once the light is out.

She is a quiet sleeper. She sleeps on my feet or legs. It can be like a sack of spuds. She sometimes snuggles between us but DH usually moves her so she's worked out to stay nearer to me. She is quieter and sleeps better on our bed. Before that there was a lot of moving around the room, licking and shaking her collar.

It's a bad habit! But very nice.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 30/12/2022 09:08

Maybe it depends on the dog, mines curls in behind my knees and functions as an excellent hot water bottle.

dustofneptune · 30/12/2022 09:09

I loooooove sleeping with my dog <3

It's one of my favourite parts of the day. He has this cute little routine where he stands sleepily next to my pillow at bed time, nudging the duvet so I'll let him go underneath 😂He curls up under my duvet for about 15 minutes, then comes out panting, flops onto his side next to me, and does a big huff before falling to sleep upside down :D

Then in the morning, I get up to make coffee and bring it back to bed for an hour. While I'm making the coffee, he quickly sneaks into the warm spot where I've been lying, and waits for me to come back and wrap my legs around him. So I'll sit, drink coffee, and dick around on my phone, while he cuddles into my lap and snoozes for a bit longer.

It's funny because I've always struggled to sleep next to a person - I'm always too conscious of partners, keep waking up, etc. But with my dog, it's totally different. He also isn't constantly pressed up against me though - just close to me, which I like :)
