Do you let your dog sleep on your bed? I just imagine this is the most cosy feeling ever

I do not have a dog but thinking of getting one

Nope.

DarkForces · 30/12/2022 09:10

My dog likes a throne of cushions on the sofa. If I let her in bed she'd nick the pillow. She's in the kitchen overnight!

Littlepuddytat · 30/12/2022 09:11

Mine sleeps in a ball in the crook of my knees. He's only small (bedlington) so i have to be careful moving around at night but i do struggle with getting back to sleep if i wake up in the night if I'm the only one awake (childhood trauma) so it really helps me to have my boy in the bed to give a little cuddle. Plus he's small, clean, doesn't shed and doesn't lick his bits during the night.

Resting my iPad on my Springer as I type.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 30/12/2022 09:13

It's the best! Ours is only 9kg, so fits in very nicely. The weight, the warmth, the gentle snoring... It all feels so calming and reassuring. We've both slept better since getting the dog 🐶

When they talk in their sleep it's called Wuffling in our house. Portmanteau of woof and snuffle. Loveliest sound.

Catterpillarwithconverse · 30/12/2022 09:14

All dogs smell every single one of them. And they definitely don't shower every day or wear clean clothes so no I would not let a dog sleep on my bed.

talkingmorenonsense · 30/12/2022 09:16

No way! I love my dog but I don’t want my bed to be a dog’s basket. She has her own comfy basket in the kitchen.

wetotter · 30/12/2022 09:18

Mine sleeps happily downstairs at home (snuggled on her blankie on the sofa) but she'll often hop in with one of her humans if we're away visiting (usually me or DD). It's great when she does - it's like she's claiming me and the space and I love it. Small breed, hops up and curls up usually in the small of my back, doesn't disturb me at all.

I've never noticed her "chasing rats" when we're sharing a bed. But I've seen it if she's dozed off on the sofa when we're still up. Little half yaps and twitching as if she's running and barking in her dream. so lovely!

@Catterpillarwithconverse I swear my dog doesn’t smell. And we are all sensitive to smells in our family and we would all say zero smell. He only smells when he is wet after washing - that wet dog smell - but no smell again when dry.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 30/12/2022 09:18

Our beagle sleeps in the bed. He's an excellent hot water bottle and very snuggly.

Tygertiger · 30/12/2022 09:19

I have a spaniel who would dearly love to sleep on the bed. Most of the time it would be fine, but I wouldn’t want him on there when muddy/damp/wet from his 6am wee and as he’s not able to distinguish for himself I think it’s kinder to never let him on. He has a comfy bed in our room as a compromise. Like other dogs on this thread, he is keen on 5am assiduous cleaning of his genitals though, which is my alarm clock these days.

roobearbaby · 30/12/2022 09:19

I have 2 lurchers both of which love to snuggle in bed. They are quite big though so we compromise and make them sleep in their own bed overnight and invite them up for a cuddle in the morning. Unless DH is away and then I let them up all night xx

Reindear · 30/12/2022 09:22

Mine is allowed to nap on my bed but not sleep on it at night. She’s a 25 kg lab and although gorgeous, she does shed hair and fart a lot! Sometimes in the morning if she’s up early we let her on the bed so we can go back to sleep for an hour. At night she sleeps on her comfy bed in the kitchen

SirChenjins · 30/12/2022 09:24

I don’t allow it - he has his own bed beside ours, but at some point in the night he sneaks onto it. It’s quite nice waking up with a small (thankfully he is small) furry creature beside us.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 30/12/2022 09:25

When I was single I used to let my Belgian Shepherd on the bed. It was cosy but she would often kick me in the night.

warofthemonstertrucks · 30/12/2022 09:26

Yes. One is fine as tiny and never moves. But if the other tries to get in then there is no sleep. So he sleeps in his basket at the end of the bed and pops up on the bed in the morning to say hello.

serenghetti2011 · 30/12/2022 09:28

Sleeping with my golden retriever will never be an option, never ever. He’s huge I’d have no space and once he’s asleep there is no budging him. His place is in his own bed

Zipps · 30/12/2022 09:28

No we have our bed, they have their own. We have dogs who like to stretch, roll on their backs with legs waving in the air, poke you in the face, steal the covers. Then they get hot, then cold then hot again, then cold again 😄
Only exception is if one was very Ill and then it would be on top of the cover for one night.

BarrelOfOtters · 30/12/2022 09:29

Ours started when she was a puppy. As a novice dog owner I thought once she was up for her 5 am wee she was up for the day. And would end up in the kitchen with her being a little dick. Eventually, exhausted by days of this, I took her up stairs and popped her in between us….and she went straight back to sleep. Turns out she’s a lie in till 10 a m kind of girl.

she takes herself off to our bed at 8 pm most nights (if we have guests downstairs she tries to encourage them out the door) and sleeps till 10am given the chance.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/12/2022 09:29

Yes. One at the foot of the bed. The other likes to snuggle into you and is far more annoying and demanding.

Polkadotties · 30/12/2022 09:31

This is a thread of 2 halves, those with Labs and those without 😂

Mentalpiece · 30/12/2022 09:32

Mine aren't even allowed in the bedrooms.
If they got on my bed, there wouldn't be room for me!
They sleep in the hallway.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 30/12/2022 09:34

Dsis told me that she and BIL were in the throws of passion when they realised that everytime one of them made a noise the Ddog mimicked them 😂. They thought it was hilarious, but Ddog now sleeps in the kitchen.

SirChenjins · 30/12/2022 09:36
