Does anyone want to share a list of the things they are looking out for in charity shops? Mine is as follows ..
A wooden musical box that looks like a grand piano, preferably with a Spanish dancer painted on the lid. I had one as a child!
A welsh wool cape
Delft Amsterdam houses
Folkmanis hand puppets
Mexican silver jewellery.
Picture books about different destinations ie 'This is London' , 'This is New York' and so on.
A vintage bust of the Queen. I already have Prince Philip.
I have a ceramic statue of Jo from Little Women. Apparently the other girls are out there somewhere too.

@Boystomenslowdanceatweddings have you had much luck with the pocket dragons in charity shops???

I collect too and have only ever found them in a charity shop once :( needless to say I did snap them up! Have had a bit more luck at carboots, my hubby went to one with the kids when I was working and picked up 3 for me, then we went together last year and found someone selling their collection! He bought me another 5 🤣 my lovely daughter bought me riding the unicorn for Xmas and I almost cried, I'd had my eye on it for ages but went with special delivery instead and she remembered and bought it and hid it away!

drspouse · 30/12/2022 11:59

I think you must all live in much more affluent areas. We have two pound charity shops (and a load more) and there are very rarely any children's clothes in any of them, what there is can be REALLY tatty.
I'm after a couple of tops for me but I'll be looking on Vinted...

AdelaideLane · 30/12/2022 12:00

Is it the ‘thrill of the chase’ @shiningcuckoo rather than actually buying the items? I was going to suggest eBay otherwise, where you can search in more detail.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 30/12/2022 12:01

Wooden bobbins with and without thread.

Any haberdashery really

In summer I'll be buying wide scarves again.

Small sets of drawers, other boxes and bags

I'm making a new list...

Mabelface · 30/12/2022 12:06

Looking for a perfume atomiser, and I think there's been one in one of the shops near me for a while, so looking today! Making my own essential oil perfume. 😊

Picked up some Gap girlfriend jeans for £6 the other day. Best bargains recently are 2 pairs of Ugg boots. One for £40 in new condition, the others for a tenner in good condition. Both my daughter and I are well chuffed.

Boystomenslowdanceatweddings · 30/12/2022 12:08

@Nsws2015 no not really! Saw some once but they were £££ and I was skint. EBay looks better for bundles!

Bananadramallamas · 30/12/2022 11:18

Sorry, not the point of your thread! Just another option.

All advice gratefully received.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 30/12/2022 12:30

Mine is mainly books:

  • Any in a series I am collecting - recently got my last Lemony Snicket so now have them all. Currently looking for all of Louisa May Alcott books
  • Books about art
  • Poetry collections

I am also always on the lookout for anything I can use in my scrapbooks/junk journals.

I am currently on the lookout for a few wooden boxes with lids small enough to keep on a shelf and big enough to keep some craft stuff in.

Glass eggs but I've only found one so far.

@SnowAndIceLobelia - very jealous about the Cecil Aldin sketch!

Me too - are you open to posting a photo, @SnowAndIceLobelia?

SnowAndIceLobelia · 30/12/2022 12:59

i certainly would be but I need to charge my camera. I don't have a phone that takes photos. I[ll hunt the charger out (which has been tidied). It is two terriers frighting though.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 30/12/2022 13:04

There we go,, managed to steal the very last of the charge ( I wondered if i would get a last gasp on the battery!) It's not where it will be permanently, i am going to put it in my study.

I gave up on wishlists years ago. That way madness lies!
I just look at what's there, in stock, in front of me ... and decide if I want it or not.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 30/12/2022 13:13

Oh no, the joy of finally finding that elusive wish list item would make the madness totally worth it!

I dream of finding an authentic Mulberry bag, but it’s such a distinctive logo that it’ll never happen. Other, lesser known brands are much more likely. I’m happy to find any stylish, good quality leather bag, mind.

I have found a Georg Jensen Christmas ornament for £5, and a Royal Copenhagen Christmas ornament for £20.

Theoldwoman · 30/12/2022 13:23

A great thread OP!

I love OP shopping, recently we purchased a caravan so I went out looking for vintage Tupperware for it. Found some amazing pieces.
Recently found a original Cabbage Patch doll.
A suitcase 1931 that I use to store coats in under my bed.
A Mason Cash mixing bowl. I have a newer one, but this is the original design.

Im always on the lookout for vintage Christmas tree ornaments.
Vintage Pyrex dishes.

TeenDivided · 30/12/2022 13:27

TinselSniffer · 30/12/2022 08:29

Hedge Rose crockery
Proper heavy cutlery, the kind your grandparents had
Kosta Boda glass votives
The Madam Cholet stuffed toy I had as a child
A vintage Nirvana tour t shirt

When DH & I married we packed away my Hedge Rose crockery and starting using DH's. Unfortunately 25 years later we still haven't broken enough of his to be able to get my Hedge Rose stuff out....

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 30/12/2022 13:31

@TeenDivided oh you should get your crockery out for the new year! After 25 years I think it’s your turn...

DesolationRow · 30/12/2022 13:32

Brilliant thread OP! I'm constantly looking for...
• Melamine tableware (any colour except orange),
• Vintage Fisher Price toys,
• Pure wool jumpers that will shrink (for my work),
• Big woolly socks,
• Old glass Christmas baubles,
• Yarn,
• And right now I'm hoping to find knee length, or slightly longer, heavy winter skirts because I received some fab merino tights for Christmas.

Whitney168 · 30/12/2022 13:34

SnowAndIceLobelia · 30/12/2022 13:04

There we go,, managed to steal the very last of the charge ( I wondered if i would get a last gasp on the battery!) It's not where it will be permanently, i am going to put it in my study.

Oh, I love it!

TeenDivided · 30/12/2022 13:36

I look for Wedgewood 'Angela' design.

NerrSnerr · 30/12/2022 13:38

I always look for brightly coloured Whittard of Chelsea crockery as I love our dinner place to be mix and match. I also look for Emma Bridgewater but that's snapped up quick- I did get a little Robin mug before Christmas though.

I always look for good quality boots, bags and children's clothes and keep an eye out for Lego.

shiningcuckoo · 30/12/2022 13:40

@AdelaideLane that music box is perfect. Unfortunately I'm not in the UK..the search goes on.. I don't think I'm completely dreaming about the bust of the queen. I did get a vintage Philip bust for $2!
