What proportion of men who identify as women do you think have had an operation to remove their male genitals?

ScrollingLeaves · 29/12/2022 13:27

Given that any man who identifies as a woman may legally be treated as a woman, join women’s sports, be housed in women's prisons, be in a women’s rape crisis centre, or be on a women’s hospital ward,

I am interested to know what other women reading here think about this question.

The reason for asking here, not on the Feminism and Women’s Rights/Gender board, Mumsnet HQ, is to find out what people think more generally. Please do not move it.

I am asking this out of interest in the wake of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill which has just been passed by Scottish Parliament.

Couldn't be more wrong. Its men that turn trans women into a fetish. Also very few with any self respect would call it that...

GetOffTheRoof · 29/12/2022 13:57

Basically fuck all. A couple of % I suspect. A good proportion of them seem to like to get their lady penises out on social media though, especially in conjunction with fetish clothing. Curious, eh?

tiddlywinks2 · 29/12/2022 13:58

I thought figures had been done on this, it was less than 5%. Can't remember where I've read the report though.

It should be 100%, but even then, to me, they still wouldn't be women.

VioletLemon · 29/12/2022 13:59

Less than 3% I believe.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 29/12/2022 13:47

Mmm! The upper limits of that is far higher than I have seen.

Are those UK stats? Country makes a difference.

Source of the statistics definitely makes a difference. Who collated them, how and why is key to the credibility of the figures.

Funny how the PP didn't state where they found that figure.

ClarathecrosseyedLioness · 29/12/2022 14:01

I managed to find this from USA fairplayforwomen.com/penis/#

I did search for UK so hopefully

I think you found this, USA stats.

mumda · 29/12/2022 14:04

Are there any stats at ONS?
www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/transgenderpopulationoftheuk

Unfortunately, we do not hold a figure for the transgender population in the UK as a whole.

I have no idea re: actual percentages but have been regularly surprised when reading about M to F who have not had this surgery - not because of medical contraindications, and/or prohibitive cost, but because 'it's no one else's business what's in my pants' or, because 'it's a significant step I'm not ready to take'.

Granted, those may be understandable reasons in themselves in regard to any major surgical procedure but those who are prepared to discuss their gender identity / transition / journey etc usually tend not to be shy in also explaining how distressing it is to own male genitalia, how this led to dysphoria, self hatred, etc. So my surprise is at how, when it comes to biting the bullet, a seemingly significant number of men hesitate at taking that final step towards achieving the body they apparently believe they always should have had.

And hang me, I don't understand that reluctance (medical and financial reasons notwithstanding) why men who see themselves as women wouldn't want to remove the ultimate physical proof of their masculinity?

Funnily enough, I find it rather worrying.........

BruceAndNosh · 29/12/2022 14:06

Guessing less than 5%

Datdamndamp · 29/12/2022 14:06

Amongst the group that used to be called transexuals, I suspect the rates are higher than among transvestites. But the transvestites are in the majority and have largely succeeded in getting that descriptive term done away with. Transgender sounds so much more palatable than talking about transexual and transvestite children after all ...

Makes you think...

What proportion of men who ID as women do you feel are a danger to women in female toilets, rape centres, hospital wards compared with men who ID as men in not gendered areas?

100%, because every single one of them is willing to transgress women's boundaries, which no decent man/transwoman would. Going by the male prison population around 15% of men are similarly dangerous.

My mistake. Thank you for the clarification

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/12/2022 14:13

I know one trans gender woman. She has been waiting for her bottom surgery for YEARS. The gender clinic have told her that because of waiting lists, the pressure on the service and her age she will probably never get the surgery. It’s not her choice.

I do believe that for some TW it IS a choice to keep their male genitalia but it definitely is not a choice for all.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/12/2022 14:13

Apparently some men are keeping their penises and having a ‘neovagina’ surgically created.

You can't do that. They use the tissue from the male genitalia to construct the neovagina.

inquisitorgeneral · 29/12/2022 14:19

Probably very few. I'd guess less than 5%. I'd assume the majority do not want it and some individuals who do want it are waiting on long NHS lists and cannot afford to go private. I know of someone who is crowdfunding for SRS because (from what they've said) they would be waiting for years for this surgery on the NHS.

RudsyFarmer · 29/12/2022 14:19

I don’t think people should be forced to undergo surgery, particularly not a surgery that’s doesn’t have a particularly good success rate. However I also don’t believe ‘feels’ dictates your sex. I have no idea what the answer is to this mess but forcing people to hack off there cocks certainly isn’t it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/12/2022 14:24

imogenation1 · 29/12/2022 14:18

I am sure I’ve seen an article or articles about a small number of men doing exactly this, @imogenation1 - though it does sound impossible. Sadly I can’t find them now - so maybe I am losing my final marble.

imogenation1 · 29/12/2022 14:26

NHS waiting times are currently an average of 13 months to be seen by the gender clinic. You need 2 independent psychological assessments (different days - usually months apart) and then have to transition for minimum of 2-3 years socially and with hormones before they will even consider you for surgery. Then it can be up to 4 years from approval from surgeon

LlynTegid · 29/12/2022 14:30

If it is a wait of six or seven years, then I'd guess it could be well under 5%.

MigsandTiggs · 29/12/2022 14:31

There is no up to date official figures but 2021/2022 transgender data will be released in 2023 by the Office of National Statistics.

What proportion of men who ID as women do you feel are a danger to women in female toilets, rape centres, hospital wards compared with men who ID as men in not gendered areas?

100%. They're all a danger, in that they are all colluding in removing any and all safe spaces for women by inserting themselves into them.

Any male bodied person who thinks it acceptable to enter any of those female only spaces is a danger.
