Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 and 2.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

That blue is lovely, v classy.

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/01/2023 12:35

It is a very nice colour. We have a navy wall in the main bedroom and it took me a long time to source the right blue.

It is nice to see the new home excitement. We have a broken washing machine and a blocked kitchen sink, so not really bursting with love for my house at the moment. 😣

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/01/2023 12:37

Ooh I like that colour @Dotellhimpike. I considered blue for my walls but ended up settling on ‘tranquil dawn’ (not my flat pictured sadly) which I’m very happy with.

Very nice. We habe simething simialr jn our hall, but a bit more bluw. It is a F&B paint called Morning Light (although we did a Leyland Paint match as I am not paying those prices!)

We only did one Navy wall in the bedroom as it is not easy to work with, I am sure our decorators cursed us!

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/01/2023 12:54

My ex helped me with mine but it broke us. The hardest part was the cutting in as there’s no coving. When I move I’ll be getting a decorator in, money well spent.

Dotellhimpike · 08/01/2023 13:10

I agree, I am painting the living room myself but will be getting a decorator in for the hall and bedrooms, whenever I can afford it. Thankfully the house is is good repair and doesn't strictly need it straight away.

Britinme · 08/01/2023 13:13

@CyanCrystalViolet - we have a similar colour to that in our stairs and landing, but slightly paler. I like it a lot. It's fairly dark up there so needs the light colour.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/01/2023 13:19

Very nice, Cyan.

I like doing interior painting and we did the kitchen last summer, which made a huge difference and it's much more comfortable now. Gone are the ghastly tiles, the nasty cupboard doors and the pus yellow walls, all chosen by the previous occupants. Don't know why we didn't do it years ago.

Dotellhimpike · 08/01/2023 10:15

@IReallyLikeCrows Yes, I am going with this shade of blue called vence.

I'm biased, but that dark blue walls are the best!

IReallyLikeCrows · 08/01/2023 14:19

That's a gorgeous blue and one I'm considering along with dark sage greens. I'm more likely to go with brown in the living room where I have a square "arch" or more accurately where once upon a time there were double doors. I'm thinking of going with a bright warm orange on the inner bits of that. The kitchen will probably be some shade of yellow for warmth and brightness. It's all v exciting.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/01/2023 16:32

Some sweet robin behaviour here today. Mr Robin approached asking for worms so went down to the garage to uncover the dish for him. Shortly afterwards Mrs Robin showed up, but she wouldn't come into the garage because, I think, she thought I was looking at her, but once I turned my head to one side a bit and looked at her out of the corner of my eye, she relaxed and came to the dish.

otraynor · 08/01/2023 16:35

Gorgeous shade of blue, pike. Love it!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/01/2023 16:51

I always like the pictures I see of that sort of dark blue, but never feel quite grown up enough to use it myself. It needs a rather more styled way of furnishing and living than I've ever managed.

Britinme · 08/01/2023 17:15

I'm not comfortable living with dark walls - luckily nor is my husband.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/01/2023 17:25

I’m the opposite. The more womb-like the better.

angelico53 · 08/01/2023 17:30

I'm far too scaredycat to have dense colours on the walls. I think that's prob because our house is very small and new. Little boxes made of ticky-tacky and they all look the same, here.

Plus, it's a thing that angelica and I have the worst disagreements about! Last time we did our previous house, which was a big 'un, I was laid up in a bed of sickness, so we asked a friend to choose the paint. It was perfect and stress free. We know what we are good at - and it's not interior design!

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/01/2023 17:37

I remember that song, angelico.

We did try bold colours once but neither of us really liked it, so went back to the off whites we're used to. Except for the bathroom, which has two walls in a rich teal. For some reason bold colours are allowed in there.

Dotellhimpike · 08/01/2023 18:14

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/01/2023 17:25

I’m the opposite. The more womb-like the better.

That's what Mrs Pike said when I asked her if it was too dark, "you like your womb like closed in spaces" and she's not wrong.

duc748 · 08/01/2023 18:40

I'd be scared I'd never leave the house!

Kucingsparkles · 08/01/2023 19:18

When I first painted our living room walls, I had this horrendous "WTF have I done?!!" feeling. But as soon as we put the furniture and soft furnishings back in the room, we fell utterly in love. It's been maybe 5 years since we did it and I still love everything about the room.

I wouldn't have the rest of the house with dark walls, mind. Our living room works for us because it's the special cosy intensely-coloured room.

bignosebignose · 08/01/2023 20:30

We’ve never had anything other than light walls in any of our rooms but that Pike house colour looks lovely. And Kuc’s living room theory could work too, especially when we get our wood burning/ multi fuel stove. It’s a decent size of a room, so could feel cosy rather than small.

MavisMcMinty · 08/01/2023 20:41

I lived in my last flat during the Changing Room(s?) years, so had a stippled orange and yellow living room with navy woodwork. A few weeks after moving out, I drove past and peeked up, and saw a stepladder and that they’d repainted it white. Felt quite miffed actually.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/01/2023 20:58

When we moved into this house the living room was dark green, including the ceilin, with a shag pile carped in what can only be described as 'poo brown'. It's now pale yellow with a white ceiling, and the original maple floor surround exposed and revarnished with a light cream & beige carpet in the centre.

Britinme · 08/01/2023 21:57

Our house has been renovated beyond recognition to what it was when we moved in, including a lot of structural stuff (we moved the stairs to come down in a different place, for example, and had to rejig two of the bedrooms to accommodate that, and we raised the living room floor, that was previously a sunken living room, to align with the rest of the house, having to move the front door to a different side of the house in consequence). There are still some smallish things to do but on the whole it's just as we like it, which is just as well as we have no intention at the moment of ever moving out of it.

IReallyLikeCrows · 08/01/2023 23:10

I want coloured ceilings. It will be easier in the living room than the bedroom. My flat is odd and there is a much higher ceiling in the bedroom. I'm also planning to make at least one chandelier with wooden beads, it's something I've fancied for a while. Other things I need include a three seater sofa, a not to wide French dresser and a console table for the kitchen which is crazy small, a console table will be narrow enough to fit and give me more counter top space which I'm seriously lacking. I'm looking on sites for second hand stuff as well as a couple of charity shops in town that sell furniture.
