Just that really. Do you have a special meal on Christmas Eve or standard 'everyday' food? What are you having this year? Looking for inspiration Smile

We aren't great cooks so we don't really push the boat out. We're having champange and risotto with good mushrooms, asparagus, baby spinach etc., and roasted veg. It'll be tasty and filling and not too unhealthy.

Most likely order an Indian!

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2022 20:49

I think we've decided on enchiladas. Haven't had them for ages!

We always have fish, usually turbot. It's traditional in many European countries (our family originate from all over the place).

TwoMagnificentLabradors · 20/12/2022 20:49

We always have pizza in front of the fire on Christmas Eve. It’s a family tradition and our kids wouldn’t have it any other way. We used to have a traditional Christmas Eve fish lunch before heading to the crib service. Now the kids are older we go the cinema or panto instead so we have the fish on the evening of 23rd. This year, halibut with fennel, lemon cream sauce, roasted baby potatoes.

Puppylucky · 20/12/2022 20:49

Burger King

Passthecake30 · 20/12/2022 20:51

Dps family has a tradition of Chinese, so that. I’m not a huge fan but I went against tradition once… never again!

Amazongirl9 · 20/12/2022 20:51

Chinese takeaway on Christmas eve.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/12/2022 20:51

No idea. Hadn't even thought about it to be honest. Maybe pizza? Something simple anyway as I'll be prepping the veg for Christmas Day roast. Definitely some wine though!

Actually, good point. I'll put DP in charge of Christmas Eve...

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 20/12/2022 20:51

Chinese always.

Ifailed · 20/12/2022 20:52

If you mean Tea, normal saturday stuff. For dinner, probably a sandwich of some sort.

AuntieMarys · 20/12/2022 20:53

Home made soup and rolls

PollyEsther · 20/12/2022 20:54

Party food! We always go out for a family cooked breakfast on Christmas Eve morning, so don’t usually bother with lunch as we’re all still stuffed! Then we do a reasonably early dinner (4-5ish) of assorted party bits. Got most from M&S 4 for 3 this year and they look so good. 🤤

MontageOfHeck · 20/12/2022 20:55

We usually do a meal of prawns, breads, cheese, pate, cured meats etc, but that’s actually quite a lot of faff and expense for 6 adults and 2 children.

This year, we’re having prawn and smoked salmon starter, followed by a cauliflower and chestnut soup. Hoping it’s light enough that we can stuff ourselves on the following days!

StopFeckingFaffing · 20/12/2022 20:57

Fish pie followed by either trifle or chocolate roulade

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 20/12/2022 20:58

Always a spag bol for me, easy and quick

saveforthat · 20/12/2022 20:58

We usually go out. Often chinese.

StarDolphins · 20/12/2022 20:59

we’re (well, DD) has chosen some god awful mini burgers, ham sandwiches & cocktail sausages.

I wouldn’t eat any of those things even if I was nearly starving to death so I have a Croats & Mollica olive & roasted veg pizza & a bottle of Prosecco (don’t drink xmas day)

Perfect28 · 20/12/2022 20:59

Curry.

StarDolphins · 20/12/2022 20:59
  • crosta
DelilahBucket · 20/12/2022 20:59

We always go out. Usually to an upmarket local pub and then to the panto. We can't afford that this year so we're going for a burger.

itsgettingweird · 20/12/2022 21:00

We are having our Xmas dinner!

Mum died earlier this year and so things this year won't be the same - which I'm glad about because otherwise it'll be usual but without her.

So Xmas dinner at dads Xmas eve and brunch Xmas day. Then everyone will visit IL or friends in afternoon which we didn't do last year as it was her last.

Usually ds and I would have pulled pork, cheeses and hot baguettes and Pringles! So normal food but nice food iyswim?

Gammon on Boxing Day.

We will very likely do pulled pork on Friday instead.

Always4Brenner · 20/12/2022 21:01

My Christmas dinner the one I’m cooking.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 20/12/2022 21:01

We're having apple baked ham, hasselback potatoes, hard boiled eggs, a salad, beetroot, crusty bread and pates/cheese for snacks afterwards.

Avacadoandtoast · 20/12/2022 21:02

Steak pie for us - though I often wish we could just have a Chinese and not worry about cooking on Christmas eve!
