I nominate "Backdoor Lover" by DuJour from Josie and the Pussycats.

Very funny, totally inappropriate, and yet insanely catchy.

All the songs from the film “Sing Street”

Figgypudding123 · 20/12/2022 14:12

@FluffyYucca I genuinely love Husavik as a song...

Figgypudding123 · 20/12/2022 14:13

@Itwasntevenblackpudding

I forgot about this one!! 😂

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 20/12/2022 14:14

That thing you do by The Oneders from the film That thing you do.

Love love it!

EdithGrantham · 20/12/2022 14:14

The whole of the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack is amazing and the film is so underrated and quotable "I thank god every day that I know the words to Enter Sandman"

Another contender but from a musicalHere

MrsJoker · 20/12/2022 14:15

The flame still burns from Still Crazy, sung by Jimmy Nail.
it was covered by Foreigner but it’s not a patch on the film version
as mentioned previously, Husavik from the Eurovision film. Both beautiful songs

Un Monde Sans Danger by Subdigitals from CodeLyoko.

Claudia84 · 20/12/2022 14:19

Someone else mentioned David Brent.
I'm also a fan of this one:

Proper catchy!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2022 14:20

The Rutles were indeed brilliant.

You Snuck Your Way Right Into my Heart - Phineas & Ferb

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2022 14:23

I'm not sure this qualifies but it is so, so funny.

SiobhanSharpe · 20/12/2022 14:23

The 'Eurovision entry' sung by Alan Cumming -- from the very camp 1990s TV series about a small Scottish airline, The High Life.
It's called Pif Paf Pof. I can't find it online, sadly, but the lyrics are great. (think of a jaunty europop song from the 1990s. ) It goes --
piff paff poff, I want to have it off
piff paff poff I want to have it off
piff paff poff I want to have it off
I want to have it off till I cough.
Simple but elegant.
The theme song for the series was pretty good too.

Firstaidnovice · 20/12/2022 14:24

Bashir with the Good Beard by We Are Lady Parts.

Indeed, anything from We Are Lady Parts

worldcupchaos · 20/12/2022 14:26

Imnotswallowingthat · 20/12/2022 13:34

But this is the winner. You'll be singing this all day after listening to it...

I love this one!
Also Husavik by Fire Saga

My lovely lovely horse

Father Ted 🤣

Totally agree! My lovely horse, all the songs by Spinal Tap, Horrible Histories Stand and Deliver (can’t remember what it’s actually called) and my new discovery…

Bad News

Pop goes my heart is going round and round in my head - had totally forgotten about that!

I feel rubbish today and this thread has really cheered me up!

HippyChickMama · 20/12/2022 14:29

I'm Nuthin by Hey, That's My Bike (Reality Bites)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2022 14:29

The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band was a real band but not expecting to be taken seriously, I'd venture to suggest. I love this one.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/12/2022 14:31

Nothing beats ‘Working on a Sex Farm’ by the Spinals.

Working up a hot sweat
Crouching in your pea patch
Plowing through your beanfield
Planting my seed…

Needmorelego · 20/12/2022 14:06

@noblegiraffe I clicked on this thread to say 'Backdoor Lover' thinking "oh it's a bit obscure - I expect no one has heard of it"
😂😂😂

Haha! It's a classic Grin Josie and the Pussycats is a great film.

It took me embarrassingly long to clock why Seth Green was singing about staring up at the moon, despite knowing what the song was about.

The Hee Bee Gee Bees.

The world is very very large
And butter is better than marge
And love is better than hate
The world is very very big
And bacon comes from a pig
But it's you I really want on my plate
So I'll sing you
Meaningless songs in very high voices
And then a little scream... ah
Meaningless songs in very high voices
Peaches slopped with cream
Meaningless songs in very high voices
Until the record ends
And when it does we'll simply start again
Yelling

noblegiraffe · 20/12/2022 14:40

@ILoveNigelTufnel I just clicked on that Bad News link and was thinking "what? This is rubbish" then clocked who it really was and it was then obviously brilliant!

Ultraviolet by the Stiff Dylans in the “Angus, Thongs…” film. Aaron Johnson 😍

Clingfilm · 20/12/2022 14:53

I've always like Bedazzled from the film of the same name where Peter Cook is a pretend pop star. Bizarre but brilliant.

Also I Need Your Love sung by Maureen lipman in the working men's club in the film Up the Junction.

Also an episode of the chipmunks cartoon where they sing about the berlin wall, so catchy!
