Comments on news reports are saying that five children/young teens have gone through ice into a lake and are in a critical condition.

Really hope that all involved make a full recovery

They went out to play. That is what children do.

Not when they're only 6. Not near deep water. Not if they were my child. Never.

And? Are you judging the parents?

Course they are.

peaceandove · 13/12/2022 17:28

But like I said, if it’s a comforting mantra that makes people feel better about their own parenting choices, crack on.

Yes, I am comforted knowing that I am sensible & responsible enough to never allow any young child, in my care, play near deep water without me being present.

How do you know the parents knew they were near deep water? How do you know there wasn't an adult there with them in fact?

Ugh. Some people just can’t help themselves, can they? Fucking grim on a parenting site.

Who left toddlers in an unlocked hotel room for hours whilst they got pissed. Because that's the same.

Tiredallofthetime · 13/12/2022 17:30

Yep.

Tiredallofthetime · 13/12/2022 17:31

Yep was to @Saucery

I wonder if that's the girl I'm thinking of, Cullercoats it happened just a teenager.

Could well be, they went on the North wall, by lifeboat station and were asked not to, by several people. The three survivors were rescued quite quickly, near where they went in. The poor girl who died was washed over to the other side and wasn't spotted quickly.

Yes that's the one I was thinking about.

peaceandove · 13/12/2022 17:32

Because, presumably if a responsible adult was with them, then no child would have been allowed to venture out on the ice in the first place.

I have already said the ice could have been covered in snow. Unless you know for certain it wasn't? Oh wait.....

3luckystars · 13/12/2022 17:34

From what I can gather, the children were not playing on the ice, they went to assist a child who had gotten his leg stuck.

They probably knew it was dangerous but were so brave, and their parents must very proud of them.

god help them all.

Amybelle88 · 13/12/2022 17:34

You know what, you are allowed to have any judgements or thoughts that you want. That's your business.

We all make judgements that can be deemed cruel but if it's how you feel, it's how you feel.

However, most people keep thoughts or judgements that they know could be hurtful to themselves, regardless of whether they think they are right or wrong.

It's just crass to be shouting it everywhere at the minute to be honest - keep it to yourself - these parents will absolutely destroy themselves for the rest of their lives and absolutely NOTHING anyone says will ever remove their feelings of guilt and "shoulda woulda coulda" that will plague them for the rest of their lives. The poor kids only died two days ago and regardless of opinion, sticking the boot in helps nobody.

Ask @peaceandove they have all the facts. Enough to judge anyway.

Depressing isn't it. Nobody knows the parents yet there's people on here would like them tarred and feathered.
Horrible.

Looks like MN are actually acting on it and deleting posts by them now.

CraigDavid · 13/12/2022 17:37

@peaceandove these children have been dead mere days and you are trying to score parenting points on mumsnet for fucks sake. Do better.

Very far from scoring points. But this mindless, blanket sentimentality isn't going to make any difference and won't stop it happening again.

Saucery · 13/12/2022 17:39

But, knowing you live very near a large body of deep water and yet still allowing your very young child to roam in its vicinity under the supervision of only other primary school children. Madness.

Apologies, I didn’t realise you were actually there.

oh wait, you weren’t? Then stop making up scenarios when you know fuck all more than anyone else.

peaceandove · 13/12/2022 16:31

Yes. Hand on heart I can swear that when my DDs were only 10 I always, always knew where they were. Always.

So fucking what

Honestly what do you want out of your posts? Do you want people to congratulate you on being right, or a better parent, or to judge or berate other parents? Do you think they deserve any tiny percentage of what they’re going through right now?

you have no idea how devastated and guilty they’re probably feeling right now (as I’m sure any parent feels when they lose a child, no matter the circumstances). They could even be reading these. So why would you post this stuff to just make them feel worse?

Well said. I think you've just spoken for 99% of us.
God bless them and let's hope the little one is ok 🙏🏻
