What is one household cleaning task you do everyday without fail?

Exactly that really. What is one household cleaning task you do everyday without fail?

For me it's washing the dishes, putting it all away, and anti-bac'ing the kitchen tops.

I also make sure the living room is tidy, not necessarily clean, but tidy. So toys, discarded clothes, etc, put away at the end of the day.

Making the beds is the only regular thing in our house. We're both a bit lazy when it comes to cleaning and apart from the kitchen, everything else generally gets done if we have odd moments of motivation or someone is coming over.

Make beds, wipe down surfaces in kitchen, clean downstairs floors, clean sinks and toilets in bathrooms, clean litter tray, empty kitchen bin, one or two wash loads, tidy up main living spaces, dishwasher twice a day, clean sink etc etc. Very proud housewife tho!!

Oblomov23 · 20/03/2023 08:15

None. I don't do anything daily. Empty the dishwasher?

Mentalpiece · 20/03/2023 09:25

Get dressed.

AllOfThemWitches · 20/03/2023 09:27

Same as you, can't understand people who let the dishes pile up, it's gross.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 20/03/2023 09:34

Litter trays

Bleach and brush the toilets
Whizz cleaning spray and wipe bathroom sinks
Wash all worktops and kitchen floor

Decafflatteplease · 20/03/2023 11:05

I have a routine every day and it's essential for my mental health and general organisation!

Morning....
Open windows whatever the weather just for 10 mins. Close again.
Clear all dry dishes from previous night, get out fresh dish drying mats and tea towels
Make all beds, lay out fresh pyjamas if needed

Daytime....
Tumble dry clothes to finish them off from night before and get a wash ready to put on in evening

Wipe down either sink or toilet (alternate)

Evening...
Wipe down kitchen worktops and hoover all of downstairs.
All dishes done
Wash a load of laundry and hang to dry.
Make sure cushions/throws in lounge are tidy before bed.
Make sure DC tablet charged ready for next day

Whoneedsleep · 20/03/2023 11:51

I try and put one wash load on a day, wipe surfaces, hoover and make beds at the very least.

I always always pick up the dog poo though no matter what!

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/03/2023 11:55

Air and make the bed

Open all the windows

Wash up and tidy away dishes after every meal

Wipe down kitchen surfaces, hob and kitchen floor

Spray the shower screen with shower spray

Hang up towels.

I would have said the dishes but my son does that and wipes the sides down afterwards . I clean my teeth every day, if that counts.

FinallyHere · 20/03/2023 19:19

Another who whose teeth get the full floss and brush routine before bed and then just quick brush in the morning.

Two adults only household, cleaner twice a week so don't really have any daily chores.

Dishwasher loaded throughly the day, run every night whether it needs it or not, because it's easier for DH (who sets it running most nights) to not have to consider whether it needs to be run.

The other reason it falls to him is that even though we usually cook together, I clear up as I go along and he prefers to do a clear up marathon after he has eaten. If I jump in, I end up doing the lions share of the clear up and am then tempted to run the dishwasher. If I do that, then when he goes to do his tidy up, he will end up leaving the dishes piled into the sink (which I hate) so it works for us to run the dishwasher over night.

I just don't go into the kitchen once I have finished cooking (and tidied my stuff into the dishwasher) until the next morning, when I'll unpack the dishwasher (and put things away in their places which DH care about)

I'll empty the dishwasher as soon as I go downstairs most days, may skip even that on any day our lovely cleaner is due to come and I'm going out anyway. I leave quite early because breakfast is once of tbdbb C pleasures of being in work.

Do my own washing once a week, send out bed linen and DH's shirts.

#a lot of planning went into having this kind of life.

None. Nobody says on their deathbed "I wish I'd done more cleaning"

Oh, I don't know.
Somebody dying of salmonella poisoning might say: "I wish I'd disinfected that work surface I dropped the chicken on...arrghhh..." <flatlines>

No need to disinfect it, detergent & water will do, in the same way that washing your hands with soap does. The detergent disrupts the virus or bacterial cell membrane

LaMarschallin · 20/03/2023 22:29

Fair enough.
Replace "disinfected" with "washed down" and the throwaway, not seriously meant comment still works.
Job's a good 'un.
