What is one household cleaning task you do everyday without fail?

Exactly that really. What is one household cleaning task you do everyday without fail?

For me it's washing the dishes, putting it all away, and anti-bac'ing the kitchen tops.

I also make sure the living room is tidy, not necessarily clean, but tidy. So toys, discarded clothes, etc, put away at the end of the day.

Wiping down kitchen and bathroom. Cleaning toilers. Dishes. Hoovering/sweeping downstairs. Straightening cushions/throws and making beds.

Literally none. I have a list of things I'd like to do daily without fail but it doesn't happen. I regularly come downstairs in the morning to unwashed dishes, toys everywhere and my desk a mess from the day before. By the time I finish work, cook dinner, get the kids to bed and prep everything for the next day I'm shattered. My plan for 2023 is to be better at this because I hate it

@Whyisitthiscoldalready

have you tried thinking of it as being kind to your future self??

Dana K White has a theory 'Do dishes daily' being life changing. Each day it's a small job, but it gets worse than 1+1+1 when you leave it, they breed or something.

it's certainly mood changing!!

Clean the toilet

Rinse the bath after everyone's used the shower (hair, soap etc stuck to it) and spray anti mould product on the tiles especially in winter

Wipe down kitchen surfaces (I use an antibacterial spray especially after cooking, cutting chicken etc I'm not sure why food hygiene is so controversial?!)

Hoover

I do other stuff as and when it needs doing but those are the things I seem to do daily.

Doesn't take long, isn't over the top, it's just basic hygiene and cleanliness.

If other people are happy to live in less clean conditions that's fine, I'm not arsed, but I'd rather have a clean toilet and bath, clean surfaces to prepare food on and not have bits all over the floor 🤔

“Antibac” sprays, wipes etc, are really bad for you in several ways. It’s easily googlable. They promote antibiotic resistance - as just one example. They form no part at all of basic hygiene or cleanliness. Soapy water is completely fine for cleaning work surfaces.

Swissnotswiss · 10/12/2022 12:07

Dishes - I have a tiny kitchen so no space unless I do.

Tidsleytiddy · 10/12/2022 12:09

Daily I clean the toilet
Do any washing up and put away
Wipe down kitchen work surfaces
Hoover if needed
Rearrange cushions on sofa and plump up
Empty any bins that need emptying
Wipe toothpaste from bathroom sink

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 10/12/2022 12:11

Clean the toilet (I'm a little bit obsessed)
Wipe all the kitchen surfaces with antibacterial spray.
Do the washing-up
Wipe the hob
Tidy the living room

Tidsleytiddy · 10/12/2022 12:17

Oh yes, and wipe over the hob x

Pelo2022 · 10/12/2022 12:18

Method daily shower spray after I've showered
Air and make the bed
Wash the dishes

Montague22 · 10/12/2022 12:19

Air the house (open the windows)

I have a question about those. cleaning the toilet daily.

Do you rub shit onto the seat on a daily basis?

I ask, because I’ll pop in 4/5 times a day and yet - it’s still not an inch deep in piss and shit.

Do you only clean it if it’s covered in those? 🤮

BabyFour2023 · 10/12/2022 14:22

To answer your question; I have 3 & 5yo boys whose aim isn’t always great and they don’t put the seat up. The 3yo likes to put both feet on the seat to squat when he is having a poo. I clean it daily to avoid one of them standing / sitting on wee if they need a poo.
The other toilets I clean daily, as in; squirt some bleach down and wipe the seat and under the seat just because I’m in the habit of doing so after doing the boys bathroom.

Notcontent · 10/12/2022 14:23

I work full time so have no time during the week for housework but the one thing I force myself to do is clean the kitchen at the end of each day as I find it’s impossible to make food if there is stuff everywhere. It might be different for people with large kitchens.

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 10/12/2022 14:36

Wash and dry up
Dettol all surfaces
Hoover
Spray and wipe. Round bathroom
Make all beds

Thats the bare minimum.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/12/2022 15:46

Just make sure my mug is clean for the morning and kitchen worktop is clean
However I live alone, so tidying can wait

RedHelenB · 10/12/2022 16:16

WineIsMyCarb · 10/12/2022 09:16

Vacuuming the light fittings
Ironing a fresh set of napkins
Deep cleaning the drains
Pressure washing the patio

Cant sleep without knowing these essential jobs are done

Are you not polishing all your brasswork you shattered?

After 24 hours of children using the toilet, it needs a good wipe down a bit of toilet cleaner sloshed about/

Wee can get into crevices and splash about; and it will absolutely stink if left to build up over time.

WineIsMyCarb · 10/12/2022 17:05

@RedHelenB Well the housekeeper does the stuff that needs doing both morning and afternoon so it's on her list really Wink

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 19/03/2023 18:02

I clear up and wash the dishes after food prep and meals as I can't bear to have unwashed dishes in the kitchen.

Fundays12 · 19/03/2023 18:07

Make the beds, empty and refill the dishwasher, do at least one load of laundry, wipe down the kitchen units, kitchen table, hoover the whole of the downstairs a minimum of twice a day as dc3 is the messiest eater you could meet and he literally leave crumbs everywhere, told washing, dust at least one or two rooms and clean one of the bathrooms plus tidy toys but generally the kids today there own away. Fix the livingroom cushions etc

Twattergy · 19/03/2023 18:09

Drench myself and my family in Dettol

justasking111 · 19/03/2023 18:12

Making the bed, it's the one thing that lasts all day 😂

Willowtre1 · 19/03/2023 18:14

Wiping round kitchen surfaces with a surface cleaner spray and cloth

bellsandwhistles333 · 19/03/2023 18:24
