What is one household cleaning task you do everyday without fail?

Exactly that really. What is one household cleaning task you do everyday without fail?

For me it's washing the dishes, putting it all away, and anti-bac'ing the kitchen tops.

I also make sure the living room is tidy, not necessarily clean, but tidy. So toys, discarded clothes, etc, put away at the end of the day.

Leaving kitchen clean and tidy every evening. Includes polishing anything stainless steel as personal hate is seeing streaked stainless steel! Dishwasher on.

I love walking in to my kitchen looking spic and span every morning. Starts the day off really well

There isn't one I do every day without fail. Dishes are washed in the dishwasher which goes on when it's full. Other things get cleaned when they need it.

I’m always intrigued by this “cleaned when needed”

but at what point? When you notice it looks dirty? When it starts to smell? When there’s a speck of dirt? When it’s so dirty that it’s dangerous?!

“cleaned when needed” to me means I notice it’s not clean

glamourousindierockandroll · 10/12/2022 09:39

Loading and unloading the diswasher and quickly wiping down kitchen tops for crumbs is probably the only thing i'd do without fail.

If you count general keeping things tidy then I do that as well but that's rarely ever truly finished with my children.

Itssooooocold · 10/12/2022 09:43

I can't imagine anti baccing (!) anything every day? Why?

I do always do the dishwasher most days and tidy up the kitchen but none of us have been sick for years so think my non anti baccing approach probably works just fine.

EL0ISE · 10/12/2022 09:43

I’ve never put anti bac spray on my worktops. Am I going to hell?

Yes, Eloise, you are, along with me and many others!

Colcat · 10/12/2022 09:44

I can't think of anything and I'm quite ok with that. Unless switching on the kettle several times a day counts?

glamourousindierockandroll · 10/12/2022 09:45

@Goodgrief82 well yes, you might notice that something isn't clean visibly or you might just remember to do it.

E.g i don't clean our toilet every single day, but i'll remember that it needs doing. It doesn't have to be visibly dirty for me to realise that I haven't done it.

Obviouspretzel · 10/12/2022 09:47

For the people who say you don't spray/anti bac your worktops, are you saying you wipe them down with soapy water instead? Or just don't wipe them at all? Because mine would be a state if I did nothing.

Does flushing the toilet count?

Dammit, you beat me to it!

My essential household list includes:

Flushing the toilet
Closing the fridge
Sweeping the dc's crap off the sofa so I can sit down
Opening the curtains
Feeding the small humans and pets

Everything else can get in the bin until I'm ready.

glamourousindierockandroll · 10/12/2022 09:49

I generally have a spray for day to day but yes, warm soapy water is actually better or if i'm giving them a good going over I like that cheap lemon cleaner.

Yes but you weren’t the poster saying you clean “only when needed” to which I referred my post to!

AuntieMarys · 10/12/2022 09:51

Dishwasher.
I have never anti bacced my surfaces in my life. I'm in my 60s

NewToWoo · 10/12/2022 09:51

Wipe the kitchen surfaces and dining room table thoroughly with antibac. I do it several times a day.

Granite worktop.

so you Method granite cleaner daily

and then black diamond a few times a week for a deeper clean

Justcallmebebes · 10/12/2022 09:54

Always make my bed. Does that count?

FourTeaFallOut · 10/12/2022 09:55

My - you have the lurgy but it still needs to happen jobs - a load of laundry, dishwasher cycle and empty bins, everything else can wait. But most days also include getting the kitchen straight and clean, straightening the living room, 2 loads of laundry, hoover house and damp dust the bedrooms (house of wheezers).

This is going to be a fun thread. Almost as good as the ones about washing your feet!

Indeed.

Ifailed · 10/12/2022 09:56

I usually wipe my arse at least once a day, does that count?

ShowsLikeThese · 10/12/2022 09:56

I hate when countertops are crumby or sticky, so wiping down kitchen surfaces is probably my only essential daily task.

A little hot water, washing up liquid, cloth. Wipe everything. Refresh water as needed. Never use a spray or anything anti-bac.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/12/2022 09:57

Nothing really - life’s too short!

Grumpybutfunny · 10/12/2022 09:57

Load the dishwasher on an evening and set it away, tidy the open plan space and put a load of washing in.

MaryMollyPolly · 10/12/2022 09:59

I’m shocked at people using antibac. I thought it was well known that antibac is not only pointless, but it’s actively bad for you.

glamourousindierockandroll · 10/12/2022 09:59

@Goodgrief82 but I would use that phrase if asked how often I do certain tasks. I clean it according to my own judgement, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I wait until it's visibly filthy.

lenalemonade · 10/12/2022 10:00

Make the bed ,clean kitchen worktops and sink with antibacterial or bleach spray ,do dishes as I use them .
Sweep kitchen and hall floor ,hoover rugs .
Freak out if anyone leaves anything lying around on the kitchen table ,particularly if I come back from work having left everything in good order before I leave .
