You're a cat. Where are you hiding?

Next door's cat is very friendly and comes to say hi every now and then.

It's feeling like minus 4 here and earlier this evening our NDC scratched at our door to be let in. She was absolutely freezing and bolted up the stairs almost immediately. We haven't seen her since!

We've tried coaxing her out by calling her name and hunting high and low in dark spaces with a torch. I've even been tapping a tin of mushy peas in the hope she thinks it's cat food.

We haven't been out and so she can't have slipped back out. Where on earth can she be?!

Tell me your cat's unusual hiding places - I need inspiration!

Our cat got inside our sofa! No point worrying just wait until she reappears.

marmaladegranny · 09/12/2022 23:10

My cats loved somehow finding their way into the drawers in the base of a king size bed then climbing out of the drawers into the space inside the bed base. They were nigh on impossible to find there!
On the other hand Ddog went awol earlier - eventually found on a dog coloured furry blanket under a desk…..

On the windowsill, above the radiator.

I have just remembered that there is a grey holdall yet to be unpacked in front of the radiator in ds's room.

NDC is grey. Off to take a look ....

One of my cars used to come at the sound of fridge door.
hiding places : inside wardrobe, on top of wardrobe, on top of books on the book shelf.

fizzyfood · 09/12/2022 23:14

Under bookcase, behind sofa, under pile of coats.

gogohmm · 09/12/2022 23:14

When dcat goes awol she's usually in among my jumper's on the shelf in the fitted wardrobes, she squeezes through tiny gaps! She has form for disappearing just as we are leaving for places, she's not allowed in our bedroom so obviously she beelines for it if we are in and out sorting things out leaving the door open (I'm allergic hence not in bedroom)

Manchmal · 09/12/2022 23:14

I love hidden cat photos. I think this is one of my favourites

You're a cat. Where are you hiding?
ninjafoodienovice · 09/12/2022 23:15

Under clothes drying on a drying rack?
Or amongst DS's teddies in his bed totally camouflaged

thaegumathteth · 09/12/2022 23:17

One of my cats comes if you call their name every time. The other one would rather DIE than respond to their name and will NOT be fooled even by dreamies.

Places he's hidden:

Inside the lining of the divan bed
Inside the divan bed drawer
Down the back of the bed between pillow and wall
In drawers
In wardrobes inside boxes covered by blankets
Inside my couch through a tiny hole I hadn't noticed
In the boiler cupboard
In a box of soft toys
Ina school bag
In the washing basket

And many times I've no actual idea WHERE they were, they just appear

Manchmal · 09/12/2022 23:17

Or this from the Reddit thread titled ‘I just spent 10 minutes looking for my asshole cat‘

You're a cat. Where are you hiding?

Agree with a pp - a tin of tuna will do the trick I’m sure! Never fails in my experience!

Thighdentitycrisis · 09/12/2022 23:19

@Beautifulsunflowers

ha my neighbour cat did this in my bedroom but I was unaware she had got in the house. Woke me up at 3am howling like a banshee (or cat) and freaked me right out!

thaegumathteth · 09/12/2022 23:20

Oh and once an old cat was in a tumble drier and was rather rudely awoken when it was turned on (they were fine)

GeneratedRandomly · 09/12/2022 23:21

On the bottom mattress of a pull out bed, right at the back.
In the drawer under the bed, sleeping on the clean, fur free bedding.
In the tiny gap between the sofa and the wall.
At the back of the sock drawer.
In the wardrobe, behind all the clothes, with the door shut.
Behind the hot tank in the cupboard.

Yes, I've messaged them. Would hate for them to worry.

Still no sign - I'll leave it till morning now.

Cute that you think you can make it to the morning without the cat howling the place down or slapping you in your sleep for kidnapping her 😁

GimmeBiscuits · 09/12/2022 23:23

I don't have cats any more but once spent ages looking for one,to eventually discover them with two paws on top of the door frame, wedged into the angle between that, the ceiling and the wall forming the corner the door was in.

It'll be under or on top of the most unlikely thing, in a pile of washing/clothes, or, most likely pretty much in front of you.

icanwearwhatiwant · 09/12/2022 23:23

May cat managed to get boarded into the kitchen ceiling last week after hiding in the space between the floor and the ceiling whilst the builders were fixing it.
Have you got any holes in your ceiling?
Also, down the side of the bed next to the radiator and in the boiler cupboard.

Fully expecting to be woken by milady wishing to be let out! I'm leaving the cat hunt until morning now.

Not in the grey bag. Gah! Thought that might have been it.

Enjoy your cat 😅 and maybe invest in some dreamies for next time. No self respecting cat would fall for mushy peas whilst hiding.

Pelo2022 · 09/12/2022 23:26

Not my cat is usually
Under the bed
On a pile of clean washing
Behind a blind on the windowsill

Currently he's snoring at my feet under a fleece blanket

LemonSwan · 09/12/2022 23:26

I don’t know because I am too good at it 🤣

Fozzleyplum · 09/12/2022 23:30

Here are my cats' tried and tested hiding places:

Inside an upholstered sofa or chair, if the hessian underneath can be prised open. Look for telltale paw shaped lumps under your chairs. ( all 3 of our cats)

On the ledge behind a closed drawer. (Rumble)

Under a bedspread on a made bed. ( Ruby)

Bottom of wardrobe amongst shoes (Rumble)

Behind tank in airing cupboard (Dotty)

Through hole in floorboards behind water tank and under floor (Dotty - furry little b@$%@&!)
