You're a cat. Where are you hiding?

Next door's cat is very friendly and comes to say hi every now and then.

It's feeling like minus 4 here and earlier this evening our NDC scratched at our door to be let in. She was absolutely freezing and bolted up the stairs almost immediately. We haven't seen her since!

We've tried coaxing her out by calling her name and hunting high and low in dark spaces with a torch. I've even been tapping a tin of mushy peas in the hope she thinks it's cat food.

We haven't been out and so she can't have slipped back out. Where on earth can she be?!

Tell me your cat's unusual hiding places - I need inspiration!

When I had a cat she loved hiding underneath my pillow! Wherever it is it's obviously comfy. No doubt you will wake up in the morning and it'll be happily curled up on the bed next to you.

Check you haven't acquired a new soft toy.

Ours got behind the fitted gas fire once and was in there for hours before she was found

My cat slept in the (empty and dry) bathtub. Very cleverboy when it got cold.

Our cat will go under duvets, in cardboard boxes, in clothes cupboards though he is very easy to find as he comes in less than a second to a tin of tuna.

I love hidden cat photos. I think this is one of my favourites

That took me ages to find!

ItWasSadlyTimetoChangemyName · 09/12/2022 23:53

Perhaps the cat let itself out through the bathroom window

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2022 00:00

My old dog, a standard dachshund, once completely disappeared.

He'd got into my bed, burrowed to the bottom and then had rolled off the end so he was caught in a sheet hammock (a tribute to my tucking-in, I suppose). I don't know how the heck he was able to breath but he plopped out slightly confused but none the worse once I realised and liberated him.

So - if you're a sensible person who has a nicely tucked sheet etc rather than just a draughty duvet, check for overhanging lumps.

My cat has been found snoozing in a laundry basket that is behind some drawers in the bathroom, sat between towels on a rail, also in the bathroom. In various boxes, under various beds, on piles of random bags, on top of wardrobes and in sideways divan bases. One memorable occasion, when she was a kitten, she discovered a space behind a wall in the kitchen.
There are so many nooks and crannies in my flat, I am aware of most of them but even after 11 years she still surprises me.

TiaraBoo · 10/12/2022 00:17

Are you sure she didn’t leave in disgust at the mushy peas?

My cat can be found in:
-dirty laundry basket
-clean washing basket
-boxes
-on any piece of clothing/towel or bag lying anywhere
-in the wardrobe
-window sill behind a curtain
-in a corner
-on the beck of the sofa
-any nook and cranny
-eating the Christmas tree
-pulled the bath panel away from the bath and hid there
-shower cubicle
-kids beds

She appeared tonight for chicken but disappeared as I didn’t hand feed her so it was the dogs lucky day instead.

I fostered cats for 10 years, places I have found cats.

Between the beds of one of those divan beds with a pullout bed underneath.
On top of the kitchen cupboards.
Inside a sofa (it pulled out into bed but was in sofa form).
On top of a wardrobe.
Inside a wardrobe on top of the clothes hanging up.
On top of the fridge freezer.
Behind a sofa.
Behind a wardrobe.
In my bed.
In the bathroom sink.
In the dirty clothes basket.
Wrapped around the slow cooker.
Inside a kitchen cupboard.
Inside a desk drawer.
Under the bed.
In the shower.
In the washing machine.

Inside my ottoman bed Hmm no idea how she got in there either!

Spudlet · 10/12/2022 07:58

Checking in this morning for neighbours cat news… any sign, op?

Bestcatmum · 10/12/2022 07:59

cats can hide under a piece of lego. I suspect they have portals to a different dimension set up around the house.

JoanThursday · 10/12/2022 08:25

As I started typing that there is still no sign this morning, in she walked as cool as you like. Have no idea where she was hiding!

We've had a bit of a chat, and she's now gone home for breakfast. She didn't pass comment on the mushy peas ....

Open a tin of tuna and wait a few minutes... problem solved 😁

Having run out the usual cat food, I once opened a tin of tuna and put it in the cat's bowl and he just looked at it (with a bit of a sneer, I think) and wouldn't touch it.

In the end I had to throw it away as he wouldn't eat it and neither would I after it had been in the cat's bowl.

I realise now if I had put it in a saucer and left it on the worktop he would have happily stolen it.

purpleme12 · 10/12/2022 08:41

Oh she's beautiful

thistimelastweek · 10/12/2022 08:43

CoastalDream · 10/12/2022 08:49

Beautiful and mischievous looking😺

FoxyLadyBOOtique · 10/12/2022 09:08

Aaaaw, she’s gorgeous! 😍

Penguinsaregreat · 10/12/2022 09:11

My friend’s cat climbed onto the next door neighbours extension and climbed through the bedroom window. Their bed was directly under the window and the neighbour awoke to a cat on her head.

ChristmasCrackler · 10/12/2022 09:12

Ohhhh beautiful cat 💕

maximist · 10/12/2022 09:20

One of mine managed to get into a neighbour's house by tailgating their cat through their microchip cat flap, open a door which was kept closed to keep the cat downstairs at night, and scare them to death by appearing on their bed.

icanwearwhatiwant · 10/12/2022 09:21

Beautiful and clever, she clearly had no intention of being left out in the cold.
Her owners aren't leaving her out in the weather are they?

Sprouttreesareamazing · 10/12/2022 09:24

Shared dcat ownership is A Thing I believe!
Congratulations!
