Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

My main client has just sent a message saying there is a Christmas hamper waiting for us!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 11/12/2022 10:26

Oh lovely! I hope everything in it is your favourite.

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/12/2022 10:32

I hope so, elderberry. They gave us one for the Queen's jubilee and it had some quite strange things in it. One was a tin of biscuits that doubled as a musical box, where you turned the base of the tin and it played the national anthem. We gave most of the contents away, but kept a few bits. My next door neighbour was thrilled with her Jubilee tea towel and jar of jam and the musical tin of biscuits went to a royal family fan I work for.

"That Mod from the first split"

I think this was Bint and Pike discussing JtT earlier. Can you fill in the blanks for me? Who were the mods? Cheers.

angelico53 · 11/12/2022 10:59

Snowy up here yesterday, and very beautiful.

My DD and her partner have built a truly wonderful house, almost a grand design. ( I'm a bit nervous about it, because they don't have planning permission. It began as a little wooden office on the land her partner's parents own, used for their business. But as the kids came along, it grew as they added bits on. She now has a living room that easily holds a 12 ft tree).

I love these threads, dear exiles. I would miss so many here, so please keep posting. Good to see grace around. Is Bibberty/Clare on MN, does anyone know? Perhaps I should let her know about here?

Someone with the username Homerloon2 that I didn't recognise, claimed to be not just a Mod when the first schism happened but the very same Mod that sent an argument into a full scale war by making a "joke" (using the JTT Mod account) telling the women to the feminist thread to "ask nicely" when they wanted trolls banished from the feminism thread. They also claimed another user was also a mod at that time, I am not going to name them as I think it's unfair to name Mods that didn't out themselves, they took on the job of Modding on the understanding their identities would not be disclosed and I respect that.

angelico53 · 11/12/2022 11:05

Thanks, Pike.

Winterborne74 · 11/12/2022 11:14

Yes - I thought it fairly clear that Homerloon was Bromio.

Eek…. (Not helpful, sorry)

Dotellhimpike · 11/12/2022 11:19

Only now am I beginning to realise the identities of Mods were an open secret but not to me, obvs, or dare I say to many others.

Yes I’m certain it’s Bromio.

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/12/2022 11:22

I never had a clue who any of the mods were, they were just a shady cabal.

Winterborne74 · 11/12/2022 11:29

A few times they revealed themselves by posting mod comments via personal usernames, but Bromio often posts hints because he feels hard-done-by. In general I agree I think we should be grateful for those who took the role seriously and tried to be fair. It’s not easy, and they are volunteers.

No snow in deepest South London, but instead freezing fog. Brrrr!

Winterborne74 · 11/12/2022 11:42

Cold and bright here on the South Coast, frost receding, but sky looks full of snow. None forecast though.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 11/12/2022 11:44

There were plenty of people on the old place whose names I recognised because they were interesting and/or enjoyable to read. Lots of them are now here, though the Losts and the WDYDLN, the dinners lot, the books and archaeology threadsters are mostly still there.

But the insiders' club deciding the future of the site are all just names, if that - no discernable personalities, people who have never said anything that struck me as interesting, intelligent or witty. Obviously they fascinate each other, but if they don't get their heads out of their arses they're going to end up with a very well designed site with very few members.

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/12/2022 11:44

Some years ago, me and Mr T were working in woodland when freezing fog rolled in. We were well dressed and didn't notice to start with but then I glanced at him and he was covered in frost and so was I. His hair was frozen and I had fun making it into silly shapes.

bignosebignose · 11/12/2022 11:46

Baltic up here, Gizmo had to reluctantly wear her Christmas jumper to the park.

Is she a Patterdale terrier, bignose?

bignosebignose · 11/12/2022 11:47

Her mum is, dad’s a Lakeland - but she looks just like her mum.

Winterborne74 · 11/12/2022 11:51

That’s a very sweet looking dog.

CyanCyan · 11/12/2022 11:57

I love her coat.

Very chilly and not so bright on this part of the south coast. Have just tucked a sleepy K up in his blanket

It’s very cold and quite foggy here in the suburbs if north London. I don’t think it’s actual freezing fog though but I’m not going outside to find out.

I remember driving home late one night when I lived in Aldershot and having a sudden realisation of “oh, that’s what freezing fog means” as the fog froze on my windscreen. Visibility so limited I took the wrong exit at one of the many roundabouts and ended up driving back through a wooded area often used for military exercises. It was pretty scary in good weather, bloody terrifying in freezing fog. By the time I got home my car radio arial was trailing icicles several inches long.

CyanCyan · 11/12/2022 12:09

I had to google freezing fog, it’s not a phenomenon I was familiar with though I must’ve come across it. Rime is a new one too…

If you look closely, you will sometimes notice a white deposit of feathery ice crystals. This is known as rime. Rime is a characteristic of freezing fog and usually spotted on vertical surfaces that are exposed to the wind.

She's gorgeous. The Patterdale I know is also extremely pretty and a complete tart. She likes to be chased by big male dogs, the little minx.

It's 4 degrees here, clear and sunny with a thaw. It's going to be lethal later, if it freezes again.

I must say, until recently, I hadn't even realised that there were mods, I thought it was JtS responding to complaints.
