Just dropping in to say bye. I only signed up to show support over the recent events on the old place.

I've pulled back as an active user of social media and with the new job will be sticking to that.

Will continue to lurk here and there from time to time.

I'd often thought that if I had to live as an animal (other than my own cat or dog) I rather fanied the life of those capybaras living in Japanese hot springs, but worried that maybe they were less happy that they looked. It's lovely to read that they really are blissed out.

Well, I hope you stick your head up her, from time to time, Thucydides! We'll no doubt continue to remember you fondly.

Oh dear, I hope my wife doesn't find out about Remoskas. She bought a Thermomix, over three years ago and hardly ever uses it. 1,200 bloody£ ! And a Ninja Cooker, which we've only really used this spring, when we had no kitchen for almost 4 months.

I'll be mainly lurking here, as (apart from the two lifeboat threads) I haven't really got the energy to suss out the rest of the site at the moment.

I don't get Mastodon, it's Twitter but harder to understand and with less people, all of whom have the same politics which means it's probably just a big echo chamber, didn't we just leave somewhere like that?

You can follow people from other Mastodon servers, there's loads of them

The interface is a bit poo, but there are loads of instances encompassing lots of different interests, with lots of people from Twitter who made the jump; there are even tools to scan your Twitter contacts and extract any Mastodon handles and allow you to follow them on Mastadon

I think they call it the "Fediverse", which makes even me cringe

But the vast majority of people I copied from Twitter were IT people (meaning the others were scared of Mastodon, I guess),

Hopefully a broader group will also find a server/instance based on their main interests over time, allowing it to grow

I know what all those words mean individually. I roughly get what it means in terms of Mastodon - although I'm not clear on the why, if you can follow people from anywhere. But I haven't the foggiest idea how one would go about doing it.
