What was your local, shit club that you frequented in your youth?

Nc for this one 😁

Mine was Langtrys in Beckenham. Absolute shit hole. We used to get in from 15 years old as the bouncers just asked for our date of birth and star sign! Would sneak bottles of wine in hidden in the lining of coats. Loads of weird, pervy men. Constant fights. I shudder to think of dd in that environment but 13yo me thought it was amazing.

Footscray Conservative Club. I was not a Conservative! It was shite (but the beer was cheap 🤣)

jackstini · 29/11/2022 23:08

Zhivago's in Nottingham - metal dance floor, we got served from about 14

Also in Nottingham - Ritzy, Madison, New York New York, MGM, Liberty's

Doncaster - Karisma & Seventh Heaven

Leeds - Majestik

Manchester - Piccadilly 21s

Sooo many 🍸

Loving all the Burnley crew on this thread. Smacks is an institution 😂 my dad was going down there in his younger days, I was going down there at 15 and I'm ashamed to admit that in my late 30s I do still occasionally go down if I'm in town.
After the apocalypse, it will be the cockroaches and smacks still standing!

@Isthisbatcountry yep, got to love a bit of smacks. Same here, going since 16, still go in late 30's. It's a rule now that we don't go passed snacks, too old for the bottom end of town.

Fucking Cales! The floors were so sticky you could end up losing a shoe. What a scummy shithole Ashford and Folkestone were in the nineties 🤣

😂 true, but still have very fond memories of friendly bouncers letting us sneak up the back stairs from Flatfoots to Cales to avoid paying to get in, doing a circuit of the room because everyone knew each other, drinking bottles of Metz then staggering up East Hill to get chips from Fountain Kebab.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/11/2022 23:22

Paradise Lost in Watford. I loved it there! Then later on Camden Palais and Manhattan Lights in Muswell Hill

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/11/2022 23:23

Also Samantha's just off Regent Street which was full of the creepiest blokes and The Hippodrome.

SheilaWilde · 29/11/2022 23:29

The Harp Club, New Cross.
Dingwalls, Camden.
The Zap club, Brighton.

All about 80000 years ago, whirling around, drinking snakebite and black in over sized charity shop clothes. The halcyon days of youth.

CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow · 29/11/2022 23:41

@theydontspeakforus - Hammersmith Palais. That was brilliant!

The Event and Paradox in Brighton in mid/late 90s!

Yes! The Event was great! That was the one on the seafront where you would have to queue in the freezing cold.
Such fun times - weird to be a grown up now. I remember my friend saying once, she’s a corporate lawyer now, and she was in a meeting with a load of other people our age (mid 40s) and suddenly had a memory of shagging someone under Worthing pier after a night out in Rutherfords and thinking how odd it was that probably everyone in that room had tales of mad nights out and how here they were talking about mergers and finance instead.

I remember Caesar’s in Streatham! Wasn’t it over 25s to keep the drunk kids out? Except I was about 18 when I went there Grin. There was a ‘young’ version on the Old Kent Road. Absolutely rotten all-you-can-drink house spirits all night for £20 entry.

Dicey’s in Neasden and Ashton’s in Cricklewood. The cheap and nasty night out for the second generation Irish youth in the 90s. I’d forgotten about Production Village!@Spidey66 !!!

Im trying to remember the shithole in Croydon we used to go to. Good tunes, but a cesspit of sleazy guys.

We got around all the shite clubs of London [grib].

Underage would have been Ziggys on Micklegate in York. All you can eat perverts and 14yo girls.

Uni years, one that has already come up, Kickers at Clifton Down. You could crunch across the broken glass. Lizard Lounge on the Triangle was marginally better, but there wasn't much in it

I was waiting for someone to say Ziggy's!
As a student loved the 'alternative' night in Wednesdays
Also Toff's

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 30/11/2022 06:13

Level One (aka scum) in Reading. They had a blue or a red alcopop for £3 I seem to remember and you always stuck to the floor with condensation dripping down the toilet walls. I think they closed off one seating area - rumour had it due to asbestos! Your ears used to ring for days afterwards, it was that loud. There was always a random old guy dancing on his own, I think he was the owner. Such amazing nights

HuntingoftheSnark · 30/11/2022 06:28

@icelollycraving if you went to Davinchi's in Tunbridge Wells, did you also go to Chez Moi, with the sticky floored staircase?

firstidrinkthecoffee · 30/11/2022 06:38

Lonelycrab · 28/11/2022 10:12

Court Jesters and Colonel Bogeys, Sandown, IOW. Seemed to remember snakebite and black (!!) was the drink to be seen with🤢

And Zanies

Basically school reunions on a weekly basis, before you even left school 😂

Ladyintangerine · 30/11/2022 06:43

'The Winter Gardens' in a well-known East coast seaside resort.
Wednesday night was 'Melody Night' AKA 'The Bags Ball'.
It was worth going just to sit in a corner and gawp at the clientele.

Apparently it was demolished years ago...

My mum is meeting her MP tomorrow. She asked on the family WhatsApp about questions to ask. I said find out how and WHY Smacks is still open 😂

Pantiles in Bagshot - looked like a timber framed barn inside!
Mirage in Windsor, (previously named Blazers). Loved it there, they used to get all the big name DJs. Became notorious in 1999 after someone was shot dead on the dance floor ShockShockShock.

My husband used to go to both of them, along with Simpsons in Bracknell and Bagley's too.

He also speaks highly of Heaven.

Personally, I was a goth/indie kid late nineties in Kent, so Manor Club, Subsonics at King Charles/King of Clubs, and Oasthouse were my era. All gone now. Only Oast still standing but slowly decaying. Gutted.

Bunking trains both ways, doing Congo lines on the way home to avoid the ticket inspector. £2 for two lemon hooch. £1.50 "pints" never knew what we were actually drinking but definitely watered down. And you wouldn't dare sit on the stair carpet in Subs because you would stick to the beggar. I lost a net skirt to that carpet.

Me too! Zhivago's was the very first nightclub I went to. I was just 15! I wore a mint green jumpsuit, with a broad, white belt and matching white stilettoes (kill me now).

Did you ever go to Central Park, under Ritzy's, it had the revolving dancefloor? I thought that was tres sophisticated.

peaceandove · 30/11/2022 09:21

CalmConfident · 29/11/2022 22:46

Did you arrange to meet your mates next to a lion at the start of the evening by any chance…??? If so, agree - excellent night out 😀

But of course. That's where everyone met up before a night out.

Sussexlass84 · 30/11/2022 10:55

hussandchips56 · 29/11/2022 21:31

I know!

I see your Trek and raise you Libertys

Ah Liberty's! My Mum would never let me go there 😄

jackstini · 30/11/2022 11:47

@peaceandove - yes! Who thought a revolving dance floor in a place you got drunk was a good idea?!

I probably had the same white stilettos. And turquoise, cerise pink and banana yellow...

Also Easy Street with the plastic palm trees and Black Orchid on the industrial estate you had to get a bus to!
