What was your local, shit club that you frequented in your youth?

Nc for this one 😁

Mine was Langtrys in Beckenham. Absolute shit hole. We used to get in from 15 years old as the bouncers just asked for our date of birth and star sign! Would sneak bottles of wine in hidden in the lining of coats. Loads of weird, pervy men. Constant fights. I shudder to think of dd in that environment but 13yo me thought it was amazing.

Krystals or Zoots? in Leicester - taking the NUS cards you wrote your own DOB on for ID 😂

Echos in Loughborough

I went to Krystals (burned down now) and Palais a few times but not really my scene. I was more into Mosh, Damnation rock night at DeMont and LampLighters (turned into Firefly now).

Panama Joe's
Smackwaterjacks

A prize to who knows which shit town they were in!

Those were the days

They were absolutely horrific weren’t they. If you were a bit posh, you went to Chaplins!

AgathaMystery · 29/11/2022 00:35

Harrysutton · 28/11/2022 08:19

Panama Joes, and then Lava and Ignite. Both shit holes but I met my husband in Lava and Ignite so not all bad

Was Lava the one upstairs opposite the bus station? I worked in a club there when it opened. First and last shift was opening night. It was shocking!

Peppermint Place in Blackburn (dress code - dress casual, but with style 🙈🤢) it was renamed Utopia and the Cats Whiskers in Burnley (saw Nick Kershaw there!)

IIRC Peps had a burger bar in it that was themed like a diner…? It was above a car park & they used to play the Black Beauty theme tune at kick out. It had 2 rooms didn’t it.

My housemates and I would go twice a week (Jesus) & one girl would always pull a bloke on the dance floor, take him to the loos or out the fire escape for a quick shag then come back for more dancing before picking the gentleman she would take home for most of the early hrs.

those were the days…

If we felt posh we’d go to King George’s - we always started the night in FJ’s.

Ozgirl75 · 29/11/2022 02:10

@Lakeyloo Worthing was surprisingly good for underage clubbing actually. Obviously Brighton was “better” but Worthing felt kind of safer and more low key for 16-17 year olds! I also did like a big club along Brighton seafront though, that was fun. I remember queuing there in the absolutely freezing cold with the wind whipping off the sea in a vest top in the middle of winter as I wouldn’t pay £1 for the cloakroom 😀

Ozgirl75 · 29/11/2022 02:14

I just googled it @Lakeyloo and apparently Rutherfords only opened in 1991 so it must have only been opened 3 years before I started going there. Sounds like there’s a new club opening there now which is good, I know it was trashy but I had some amazingly fun nights there.

Cakewineorgin · 29/11/2022 02:25

Rina66 · 28/11/2022 05:02

Tudors and Bogarts - with pre-drinks in Mirabeaus or a wine bar in Eastcote whose name escapes me!

A big night out was The Lyceum in the Strand on a Friday night with Greg Edwards DJ'ing 😂

@Rina66 me too!
Champers in Eastcote. It's still there.

Sunbird24 · 29/11/2022 03:46

Gardens, Dukes or Studios, or sometimes we’d get on the bus and go to Madison’s. Which maybe @FerretInAFrock might remember?

@PeloFondo @pellythefamouspenguin i’m another for Tokyo Joe’s and Squires…

ACollectionofCells · 29/11/2022 04:41

@Phos me and my friends were literally talking about that last night!
I used to go to the official underage nights at Maestros. It was rubbish as I was already rebelling and went to 'real' clubs so I felt
really put out to join my friends there!
Has nobody mentioned Bradford Rios yet? Absolutely dire place but so so good!I think It's a bridal shop now. Just noticed your post as I type @Pericombobulations . Went straight from tumblers or the blob shop.
I dont know how I always could afford it from age 14! Never got asked for ID. I got asked for ID a couple of weeks ago buying a bottle of champagne in Lidl though!

The garage/cockpit Leeds. I didn't like it there so much though.
12 Bar Preston-what was it called before that?!

I absolutely love the names of these places.

Yes my favourite by far being Cinatras. Marvellous

crispinglovershighkick · 29/11/2022 05:12

Smogtopia ...and occasionally the Shebeen 😳
In my defence both were within walking distance of my flat 🤷🏻‍♀️

Baconand · 29/11/2022 05:29

Golden Flamingos in MK, latterly The Empire. Now sadly a supermarket.

I first went on Thursday nights as that was the easiest night to get in to when underage (I was 16 nearly 17). I still have my membership card somewhere!

Once I was actually old enough to go I was more likely to be raving in a disused warehouse instead though. Haha. Happy days.

miraveile · 29/11/2022 05:35

The Dome, Birmingham

DuncanBiscuits · 29/11/2022 05:41

Spiders, Hull.

Best nights of my life,

wahwahwah2022 · 29/11/2022 05:49

The Palace, Hamilton. Legendary!

yajustneverknow · 29/11/2022 06:26

@AgathaMystery the one across from the bus stop was sidewalk which was mainly for during the day drinking. The club above it was club 53 locally renamed as the zoo, for obvious reasons. Across from the sidewalk was bootleggers. We'd move on to yates, down to the swan, into paradise, then to smacks, bb11, before lava and ignite it was called the works. Smacks is very much still going strong.
The best years of my life going down burnley. My older self doesn't go passed smacks anymore when I go out out probably 3/4 times a year.

CatWorm · 29/11/2022 06:26

I can also confirm that Fabric was a whole other world. i was petrified in there. It I go to hell, it’ll be a perpetual night at Fabric. You couldn’t have got me back in there if you’d paid me.

I can't believe no one has said Caesers in Streatham. Midnight buffet, £20 all you can drink........ what a place. I can still hear the late 90s garage music and smell the Archers and Lemonade.......

To be fair I was coming on to say both Blue Orchid in Croydon and Caesars in Streatham.

Spent my 17th birthday at the Blue Orchid. Bought the birthday package (stating it was my 19th as I was already a member). I got a foil balloon from them but they didn't do my group photo. Still grumpy about that.

That was the night someone caught me with a fag on the dancefloor just above my boob. The whole burning head of it came off and got trapped inside my dress. Put a hole in my new white dress (that had a lace train) and it was scarred for years afterwards, though it's gone now. Hurt like a bitch and I was wary of people smoking on the dancefloor forever more.

Never liked Caesars as much. Drinks were so watered down, they were grim. Closer to home though.

When I met DH at 18, we'd frequent The Beach in Wolverhampton (his home town). Fond memories of that place.

Yes my favourite by far being Cinatras. Marvellous

I knew of Cinatras but don't think I ever went. Was it over 21s?

Though I'm 40 now and this thread has taught me that it wasn't Sinatra's!

somuchtolearnabout · 29/11/2022 07:09

Has nobody said Amadeus in Rochester yet? I cannot be the only one. And Venue in New Cross? I believe that dump is still going

Belfastbird · 29/11/2022 07:37

EBearhug · 27/11/2022 23:17

The Buzz. Certain songs take me right back there, even though I must have heard those songs in all sorts of other places too.

This brings back memories - every Saturday night in 6th form!
