I can't decide on floor tiles for my kitchen, doors will be white shaker and I've decided on the work tops but am stuck on the flooring.
So would you have wood effect or the mottled one ?

Wood

Cherrysoup · 26/11/2022 18:54

Just don’t get textured flooring (laminate). We made that mistake and it’s awful to clean.

We've got mottled tiles in the conservatory.
They look like someone has walked over every inch in dirty shoes, even when they've been scrubbed to within an inch.
That said, I don't like the wood one either.
We have white floor tiles - they are a right PITA to keep clean - I'd swap them for your grey ones anytime!

PicaNewName · 26/11/2022 19:20

To me they both look really bland/dated/something for a rental.
I'm not saying have a statement colour but it really has nothing to it.

That's better. I do like the fashion now of thinner worktops too 👍

Newwardrobe · 26/11/2022 19:27

I've found a visualiser so can see different colours.

The tiny bit of floor I can see looks like washed scandi pine

I've seen composite slate flooring large tiles look astonishing. Also sandstone. Ditto scandi pine Go get more samples. Lay them on the floor preferably up against the units look at them for three days in all lights . You'll either loathe them or decide that you want that particular floor.

justasking111 · 26/11/2022 21:59

Ditto with the worktops. Get samples

Lovemylittlebear · 26/11/2022 22:04

I like the worktop and cabinets but not the flooring. I would go for a light coloured porcelain floor, limestone or statement tiles if I had a choice :)

I have those doors (or near identical). I originally wanted a light worktop, but the woman from the kitchen company recommended a rich dark brown, which I'd never normally have chosen as I like light colours. But I trusted her and I'm SO glad I did. The contrast with the doors is so much nicer and classier.

My flooring is a mid-brown wood effect.

People probably won't approve of the floor being a similar colour though!

That's very American. The use of wood there is amazing. Some I love, some I think is over kill

Sunnytwobridges · 26/11/2022 23:06

i like the non looking wood ones. The wood ones look fake to me.

Bamaluz · 26/11/2022 23:11

The wood effect, very easy to keep clean, doesn't show dirt because of the grain.

BelgiumArse · 26/11/2022 23:28

Depends how big the kitchen is.

If it's a smaller kitchen agree keep the colours light.
But I would choose like for like.

Wooden flooring to go with wooden unit top.
Or mottled flooring with mottled unit top.

It doesn't have to contrast there will be enough stuff going on when the stuff is back in your kitchen.

What tiles you going for ?
Plain white horizontal brick type ?

I think it would be easier to change wall colour, light actual units don't date as much.

Statement walls, nuetral fixed units and floor colour.
Get coloured units in a small kitchen and you would dislike it quicker and go out of fashion faster.

I suppose there are some nice nuetral sage coloured units that arn't too vibrant.

BelgiumArse · 26/11/2022 23:37

Have you seen the Corian worktops, they are quite good with the moulded drainers.
Use it as splash backs and instead of wall tiles aswell.

infohere · 26/11/2022 23:41

The existing ones.

Furries · 26/11/2022 23:48

My budget was small, no real wood in my kitchen! It’s not to everyone’s taste, but I like it - went for a darker wood-effect worktop and lighter wood effect flooring. Rubbish “before” photo, all others are on old device (I don’t store books on the floor, a shelf had collapsed in the middle of the night!). I’ve painted the walls and cabinets twice, it’s such an easy way to update the room - the units are at least 13 years old.
