I've got DD:
Christmas bedspread
Julia Donaldson book advent
Wooden keepsake advent
Elf on the shelf activities book
Little Miss Christmas book
Reindeer headband
Christmas PJs

Baby DS has got a white chocolate calender, a wooden keepsake advent and PJs.

A what? Is this in addition to the Christmas Eve box and the christmas stocking before they get their main presents?

We do a Christmas Eve eve box and a Christmas Eve eve eve box, thats enough. Although as its been a shitty year Im thinking of doing a Christmas Eve eve eve eve box as well!

Sirpatrickdelaneypodmore · 24/11/2022 17:30

We also have a Halloween box and Easter box. I don’t think I should be allowed on mumsnet anymore 😂
90% of what’s in them is just the seasonal stuff all in one box, with maybe the odd book and craft added to each year

Dec 1st box 🤔
Nice one OP, you nearly had me going there 😂

WimbyAce · 24/11/2022 17:32

Just no 😆

RaraRachael · 24/11/2022 17:37

A December 1st box - WTAF next? One for every day of the month?

What a load of old shite. I wonder how my kids managed to get through their childhood with only a Dairy Milk advent calendar between them -
No elf on the fucking stupid shelf
No Christmas Eve boxes complete with naff stuff like matching pyjamas for the whole family
No endless breakfasts with santa
No December 1st boxes (whatever they may be)

😀😀😀

vinoandbrie · 24/11/2022 17:38

Nothing.

They will get an advent calendar each and be grateful!

Prinnny · 24/11/2022 17:43

Some grinches on this thread, lots of people do a 1st of Dec box instead of a Christmas Eve one to prolong the use.

In DD3s will be all the Christmas books from over the last 3years plus a new one, the Christmas play figures again from previous years, her Santa plate again from previous years and some crafty thing to make tree decorations and a gingerbread man kit.

So yeah all wasteful planet killing stuff that will end up in landfill and never be used again 🙄

Lewiscapaldiscat · 24/11/2022 17:44

1st December is a better idea than Christmas Eve as it can be used all month rather than Christmas pjs on 24th.

I do both! Because I can and vacates I want to. Imagine. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to!

I love it - OP come over to the Christmas board much friendlier!

j712adrian · 24/11/2022 16:55

More American marketing bollocks.

And a load of American people, such as myself, are not doing it either. That goes for the dreaded elf.

But if the OP, wants to do it, it's fine.
Live and let live!

Glittersparkle76 · 24/11/2022 17:45

I do a Dec 1st box/bag which includes Xmas pj's,hot chocolate,Xmas crafts, sweets and a Xmas reindeer headband or something similar.I don't really do an Xmas eve box as I'd rather she has the whole of December to make her craft stuff and wear her Xmas pj's.

NightfeedsandNetflix · 24/11/2022 17:46

More madness like a the push present for pregnant women. It all is OTT and means nothing. Takes away from actual real occasions! More fads and gimmicks. I won't be doing Xmas at all at this rate as a two fingers to all.

zaffa · 24/11/2022 17:46

So I am actually doing something like this, because DSS lives with us now and it's his first Xmas and he is DESPERATE to get matching PJs. I actually think it's a desire to feel like he belongs in the family.
So I have matching PJs for him and DD, a hot chocolate stick for him, some chocolate fingers, and a bottle with a twisty straw to drink out of that has a Santa theme.
(DD is only three so she doesn't require the extra chocolates etc). And I also got them each an advent calendar - a sweet one for him and one of those kinder ones for DD. (He's 14).
DH and I do not have any PJs or anything except a salted caramel hot chocolate thing for DH but it's not going in the box.
I have accounted for the cost of it in my Xmas budget though 😂 and they do both need new PJs 😁
There is no elf though; I'm only willing to welcome elves that do housework, not make my life harder ....
Regardless, your family tradition is yours and don't be put off by negativity

Fevertree · 24/11/2022 17:47

My kids get this kind of stuff on the last day of school. Christmas crafts, a book or 2, pjs, bedding that we bought a few years ago, maybe some bits for hot chocolate. On the 1st Dec they will get cards to write for their classmates

All the posters on here ‘you what? etc’ they all know exactly what they are.
It’s just an excuse to be superior and go on about the environment.
I do an Advent calendar, but DD is 17 now.
Hope your wain likes it all 😊

PurplePixies · 24/11/2022 17:49

Nope.
No Christmas Eve box
No Elf on the shelf nonsense either but we do put up an old much loved fabric advent calendar and fill it with nice chocs ready for 1st December.

ZittiEBuoni · 24/11/2022 17:50

I might steal the craft bits idea - Excellent idea to encourage down time in December!

ladycarlotta · 24/11/2022 17:08

do you know how little I can afford Christmas Day, let alone all the nice little activities leading up to it, let alone a sodding Christmas Eve box (which I'm not doing btw)??? Jesus wept. I would love to shower my child with gifts and make it all extra magical for her all month but it simply isn't possible. I don't think I'm the only person in this position by a long shot.

I read the OP and instantly thought 'not another thing that people are going to feel obliged to do because their friends parents/instagram influencers do'. It's bad enough that now has to be an elf on the shelf, family Christmas pyjamas and a Christmas Eve box. A December the 1st one? At the very time when people are more squeezed than ever, and where the most fnicially vulnerable can't even eat? So now there's even more Christmas guilt piled on them?

I honestly hope that this OP is a wind up and that this doesn't actually exist.

Cosycover · 24/11/2022 17:59

I don't do a box but on December 1st the elf comes back and brings an advent calander, new PJs, slippers and a sweetie.

On Christmas eve the elf brings Reindeer dust and Santa's magic key.

I save the Christmas bedding for mid December and change it after the kids have fell asleep and say that the elf done it.

saraclara · 24/11/2022 18:01

All the posters on here ‘you what? etc’ they all know exactly what they are.

No @maddiemookins16mum I don't/didn't. And I'm clearly not alone.

My kids got an advent calendar, as does my DGD. And that's it.

mathanxiety · 24/11/2022 18:01

Their whatnow?

NoSquirrels · 24/11/2022 18:06

Cherrytree77 · 24/11/2022 16:51

I think a December box makes more sense than a Christmas eve box - that way they have December to enjoy the pajamas etc.

Exactly. We do PJs (not in a box!) on Christmas Eve but it’s probably more useful to give them early December, tbh.

And we give our DC advent calendars too, plus a Christmas book to read (along with bringing the previous years ones out of storage), we buy them a new tree decoration every year (actually they choose this themselves the day we go to collect the tree) and we have Christmas jumpers and sparkly reindeer headbands or what have you.

Just because we don’t put it all in a box on December 1st doesn’t mean it’s not being consumed. Think the majority of responses on this thread are a bit overly pious, tbh.
