I've got DD:
Christmas bedspread
Julia Donaldson book advent
Wooden keepsake advent
Elf on the shelf activities book
Little Miss Christmas book
Reindeer headband
Christmas PJs

Baby DS has got a white chocolate calender, a wooden keepsake advent and PJs.

In my 20 odd years of being a parent to several children this is the first time I've heard of this. My kids get an advent calender, the younger ones got an elf when it became a thing. Hate the elf, so pleased they no longer believe.

AudTheDeepMinded · 24/11/2022 16:39

Nothing, I am a terrible parent that prioritises the planet over excuses to buy more bleeding crap that is entirely unnecessary?

upfucked · 24/11/2022 16:39

We have Christmas bedding, Christmas books books, elc happyland Christmas toys which we get out every year and I think we have some left over crafts. They don’t arrive magically in a nice box, they just come out of the loft the plastic storage container.

Eh????, what's a December 1st box?

DumpedByText · 24/11/2022 16:39

FFS a December 1st box, whatever next, an end of Christmas box, a new year box get a grip its one day!

RememberedForAllTheWrongReasons · 24/11/2022 16:40

We have a whole generation of over indulged little darlings ahead!

Speedweed · 24/11/2022 16:40

I've put a nintendo switch, a bmw, two reindeers and a gold bar advent calendar in the ones I've made for my little darlings.

I just loathe giving more tat (aka 'landfill in waiting'), so I prefer to give more substantial presents.

I'm thinking of starting a daily December box tradition too, because a child can never have enough presents to open, and I just want to give them the world (even if it's burning/melting because of overconsumption). More more MORE!

NiceTwin · 24/11/2022 16:41

Fuck all.

What exactly is this foolishness?

ClaudiusTheGod · 24/11/2022 16:42

What are you getting them for Christmas Day, the contents of Hamleys?

Mindless consumption.

AudTheDeepMinded · 24/11/2022 16:43

If I am feeling generous, i might put the heating on to celebrate the start of the month.

SantanaBinLorry · 24/11/2022 16:44

Is it a box we can put the kids in for the whole of december? Im up for that!

SallyWD · 24/11/2022 16:45

Oh no!! Not more stuff we're supposed to do! I've never heard of a Dec 1st box. I don't to elf on the shelf or Christmas eve boxes either. My kids have way too much stuff as it is - I'm not buying yet more stuff for the sake of it.
Sorry if I sound like an utter Scrooge.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 24/11/2022 16:46

What the fresh hell is this!

Beamur · 24/11/2022 16:46

Advent calendar, day 1.
That's it.

FlamingJingleBells · 24/11/2022 16:46

Did the shephards and the wee little donkey have an advent calendar & Dec 1st box to signify the arrival of the baby Jesus?

Justcallmebebes · 24/11/2022 16:47

I absolutely love Christmas but this bringing it into November and making it all about tat and blatant consumerism is completely ruining it.

No 1 Dec boxes or decorations up 4 weeks beforehand in this house

PuttingDownRoots · 24/11/2022 16:49

Lots of people have Christmas bedding (reused yearly), Christmassy books that come out in December and advent calendars. But put them in a box, MN freaks out.

Honestly... compared with Elf arrivial balloon bouquets and North Pole breakfasts... this actually seems kind of restrained.

CatByDay · 24/11/2022 16:49

This is a wind up...

BroomHandledMouser · 24/11/2022 16:51

My 1st Dec box will contain a mini cheese and a bottle of wine from the fridge.

I am starting as I mean to go on….

Cherrytree77 · 24/11/2022 16:51

I think a December box makes more sense than a Christmas eve box - that way they have December to enjoy the pajamas etc.

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 24/11/2022 16:53

Advent calendar!
Along with that bastard elf.

RedToothBrush · 24/11/2022 16:54

I'm old fashioned.

We have this thing called an advent calendar. You don't just get lots of big gifts on 1st December, you get lots of little ones all through December and a slightly less spoilt brat of a child. I recommend them.

We really go to town in our house though and do have new pjs on Christmas eve because santa doesn't like stinking kids.

Elf on the shelf can go fuck himself like the delinquent prick he is.

HeraldicBlazoning · 24/11/2022 16:54

What's in a North Pole breakfast - a chunk of raw seal served on ice?

(Actually, I don't want to know. I couldn't care less because it will be a cold day in hell before we have a "north pole breakfast" in this house.)

TooMinty · 24/11/2022 16:54

Genius! Might get one for DH too...

Notanotherone6 · 24/11/2022 16:54

I like this concept better than the Christmas Eve boxes. Might as well give them Christmas pyjamas in the run up, rather than them being appropriate for one night, until next year. Same with stuff like Christmas baubles. I never understand why people put them in stockings. You take the tree down like two days later! (Ok, maybe that's a little hasty, but still).

Fwiw, we used to get Christmas craft stuff to do on the first Sunday of advent. We always enjoyed it!
