I've got DD:
Christmas bedspread
Julia Donaldson book advent
Wooden keepsake advent
Elf on the shelf activities book
Little Miss Christmas book
Reindeer headband
Christmas PJs

Baby DS has got a white chocolate calender, a wooden keepsake advent and PJs.

Seriously though, I will start wearing my Christmas earrings from December 1st and eating and drinking with abandon.

RampantIvy · 24/11/2022 17:08

I'll be getting DD an advent calendar. She is 22, but I still buy one for her Grin

ladycarlotta · 24/11/2022 17:08

do you know how little I can afford Christmas Day, let alone all the nice little activities leading up to it, let alone a sodding Christmas Eve box (which I'm not doing btw)??? Jesus wept. I would love to shower my child with gifts and make it all extra magical for her all month but it simply isn't possible. I don't think I'm the only person in this position by a long shot.

I buy boxes and fill my own advent calendar as a job (poor sales this year, but my stuff won't expire (30 - 350 million year old fossils) and will keep for next year.

Since my DC can have any fossils and minerals that they want there's no point in them having one frilled with my merchandise. So I bought multi-flavoured boxed of Lindor chocolates for them and that's what they'll be opening one day at a time.

And I thought that was overdoing it.

Who has need of, the time for, or the money for another 'let's make today speshul' day?

Hellno44 · 24/11/2022 17:10

Nothing. My 2 are getting previously enjoyed Christmas presents.
I don't think they have anything new from us. My parents asked what to buy them and are giving me money to take them to the zoo. I don't like advent calenders because they really don't need chocolate daily.

Qwertyfudge · 24/11/2022 17:10

Ah the Grinch arrived quickly!

We do this too, other than the edible stuff and new Xmas pjs/jumpers if the old ones don’t fit it’s all been on the go for a while and just get packed away after Xmas for the following year.

ours includes all the Xmas books, bedding, mugs etc

SoupDragon · 24/11/2022 17:10

A December 1st box? WTF?!

this is utter madness. An advent calendar is sufficient for December.

As ever - sorry for spelling mistakes, some words were selected for me by autocorrect.

ThePoshUns · 24/11/2022 17:11

A what box?

SoupDragon · 24/11/2022 17:11

Ah the Grinch arrived quickly!

it is nothing to do with being a Grinch and everything to do with not being ridiculously over the top. .

OldTinHat · 24/11/2022 17:12

Just fell over laughing and can't get back up! Send help!

December 1st box...hahahaha!!!!!

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 24/11/2022 17:12

Mine get a fabric advent calendar starting dec 1st, Saint Nicolas visits and leaves edibles in their shoes on Dec 6th (German heritage). That's it. Never heard of a Dec 1st box.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 24/11/2022 17:14

How are we to keep up my 31 October and 5 November boxes are yet to be stored away, I've had to add a out oseaso World Cup box this year I can't cope with any more boxes!

I bet @TinyPhotoFrames is so wishing she'd posted this in the madness that is the all year round Christmas toic

This is the essence of a ‘wind ‘em up, watch ‘em go’ thread.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 24/11/2022 17:18

I'm sorry but I've never understood how this need for event boxes arrived.
Isn't it all just so much more money that people feel guilted into spending by some nobodies on Social Media?

stuntbubbles · 24/11/2022 17:18

But what do you put in next year’s box if you got them a wooden keepsake advent this year? Surely more sensible to invest in a disposable glitter calendar each year. For the ~magic.

AudTheDeepMinded · 24/11/2022 17:18

This has been a great thread for reassuring me that I am not a mean parent but entirely rational, and lots of other kids are also being deprived in the same manner as mine. Phew!

Snugglemonkey · 24/11/2022 17:19

We don't do a box, but I will get out the Christmas bedding, books, jumpers and mugs, the elves will come with the advent calendar and there will be a breakfast. The breakfast will just be Christmas tree shaped muffins instead of toast, with the rest of the usual breakfast. There will be excitement, but not great expenditure at all.

My mum was born in Germany and we always used to put our slippers outside the bedroom door on the night of 5th December to find a little gift on them on the 6th.

Lcb123 · 24/11/2022 17:19

Never heard of this. 1st December is for advent calendars?

MsSquiz · 24/11/2022 17:22

We do a December 1st box and in it is:
Christmassy story books
DD's Jellycat elf (not a creepy elf on the shelf that moves around!)
A couple of Christmas crafts to do through the month
A christmassy sticker book
DD's advent calendar
DD's festive pyjamas (worn throughout December and all year round!)

DD1's birthday is the 18th December so that's why we do a December 1st box. The book collection is just added to each year & the elf is the same each year. It's basically just a Christmas box for dd that comes out when the decorations and tree go up.

Isn't that the whole site these days?

Sirpatrickdelaneypodmore · 24/11/2022 17:28

Ours has the Xmas pjs, advent calendars, advent candle, a couple of crafts I picked up in the Jan sales, a new Christmasaurus book for us to read throughout December, the elf hats that come out every year, all the Xmas books we’ve accumulated over the years, and wooden nativity figures. Oh and Xmas blankets that come out every year. Oh and of course the elf!!

CarefreeMe · 24/11/2022 17:28

Why would you get your baby a chocolate calendar!!

You do know it’s still bad for them even if it’s white chocolate don’t you?
