We've just moved and clearly haven't decorated yet. Although we always end up using cream everywhere as neither of us are good at interior design.

There's lots of built in storage, useful but they don't look great and fill up the room. I do love our bed though.

Any ideas for how to improve the look of the wardrobes and drawers with minimal skills? I was thinking just removing the pelmet thing might help and I'd like to get rid of the shelves, just hoping it's easy enough to detach them.

The curtains are from DS's old bedroom and held together with safety pins, cutting edge design at chez Cornedbeef!

I'd love to be braver with decoration so might consider an actual colour in there, plus there's not much wall space so hopefully quick to paint.

@CornedBeef451 I couldn't see if you'd posted a picture of your storage but my wardrobes that are painted in the same green as the walls once looked like this (excuse the grainy 17 year old estate agent's picture). We couldn't afford to replace them at the time so removed the pelmet from the top, painted them the same colour as the walls and added new handles. They've been 3 different colours since we moved in and each time we've painted them they've been totally transformed - they're still a very attractive gold colour inside!

Aren’t you moving to the US I’m confused

It's almost like pp is a Billy bullshitter. 🤔

Thanks @thecaseofthepurplecushion !

TattiePants · 24/11/2022 20:52

@CornedBeef451 just seen the photos. They're not that dissimilar to mine. I'd remove the fancy pelmet and the shelves like you said and replace the handles. If you are feeling brave you could paint them - you just need to prime them with something like Zinsser followed by a hardwearing paint (I prefer eggshell).

Do any of u have kids ? Rooms are child like.

Eh? What does your room look like then, random man?

CornedBeef451 · 24/11/2022 20:56

Thanks @TattiePants, I might just end up trying to replicate your bedroom on a smaller scale!

Your wardrobes look so much better painted, you wouldn't think they were the same ones.

This is a piece of me - where is the peacock from and is it wallpaper?

Lovely! Love the bright colours!

Thank you @GonnaGetGoingReturns 😊
I painted the peacock myself (copied from a much smaller one on some Little Greene wallpaper 😉)

Thank you @kingofchaos 😊

@Babooshka1991 I love your bedside lamp. Can you remember where you got it from?

Babooshka1991 · 24/11/2022 21:23

Thanks @longtompot! I got them off Facebook marketplace I’m afraid, I’ve no idea where they were from new

Fuwari · 24/11/2022 21:30

Here is my top tip for anyone needing to get rid of woodchip wallpaper.

Sand it. Seriously it works and is a bazillion times quicker and easier than trying to strip it.

Hi @TattiePants

can you remember the name of the blue/green colour paint you used in your room? Ta

TattiePants · 24/11/2022 21:52

@Morestrangethings it's Little Greene's Mid Azure Green. It marks easily so when I eventually get round to repainting it I'll get the colour mixed at Johnstone's as they do a durable matt paint that doesn't mark and their colours are usually a very close match.

What finish did you use? For woodwork, I’ve found their Tom’s Oil is excellent and wipes clean easily.

I've posted this before on a property board thread a while ago so the time since it actually looked this tidy is just getting further and further away but this is mine when it was newly done. Trigger warning... it contains panelling which I know from the recent most hated interior trends thread is an absolute no-no.

I love your bedroom, no idea why your panelling is a no no, I think it looks gorgeous.

Allmouthnoaction · 25/11/2022 09:47

Skills - you haz them! Grin DB and stepdad are good painters so I might copy this and get them to do it!

@SollaSollew - my DPs had panelling for years downstairs in their front room - pine - they've got rid of it now but I quite liked it! Gave a warmth to the room.

Obviously its 60s/70s taste but nothing that dire about it in my opinion.

Mollyplop999 · 25/11/2022 11:52

Here is mine!

Why does your bedroom picture have a "view similar products" banner across it?

Another poster on the same page has also used a picture of a bedroom that isn't hers.

I know the Internet is full of liars but Jesus people, make a little bit of effort 😂

It's a joke because apparently one time a mnetter really did post in all seriousness a picture of a hotel bedroom claiming it was hers...
