Ah, this thread has made me sad.

It caused me to go looking for a house I used to live in, because I recalled the estate agent pictures of when I lived there were often used again and again. I thought I'd check out my bedroom photos. (I lived in a smaller house that was attached to a bigger house).

I found it. And I found the whole lot is for sale for £4m.

I had such a wonderful few years there and I am gutted I don't have £4m (ha!) to buy it, because I would in a heartbeat. It was so special in my heart.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/11/2022 14:44

The belongings in it are because a friend is staying and my spare room which is being rented is a tip! Needs a good clear out!

I was saying to my hubby this morning that I needed ideas/inspiration to make the bedroom more luxurious and then saw this thread! Any advice welcome. Do not like the wooden chest of drawers. Suppose I could paint it. Also got wooden wardrobes Want a more hotel feel! Should I get carpet?

I like all of this but then again I love traditional style of furniture and pine floors. A nicer rug/more rugs but no carpet - unless you really want it.

I actually like the pine chest of drawers. Your dressing table doesn't match the chest of drawers so would either replace or paint that to match.

We're renovating so I don't have any photos but I've attached some photos of the things we bought.

We have deep purple painted walls, a grey carpet, one wall with the wallpaper attached (photo quite literally from the shop we got it from!). We have purple thick curtains with sheer forest green curtains overlapping on our side.

Black king-sized bed although it's not really visible. Black bedside tables (attached, from dunelm), Franklin desk as a dressing table (also dunelm), with Urban Outfitters folding mirror on top. Built in wardrobe.

We have warm yellow/white fairy lights, a very dim ceiling light (don't really know how to describe it but it has a certain look about it), and the table lamps attached, they're from Copper Moon and they're gorgeous. We have the painting attached in a beautiful, vintage-y gold frame on one of the deep purple walls. We also picked out new bedding and went for white celestial bedding from Urban Outfitters.

Oh and we have a navy ceiling with flicks of paint all over it in different colours to make it look like a night sky. And we have glow in the dark stars up.

It's so far my favourite room in our new house and I love it.

Can I get advice? This isn’t my main bedroom but is the box room - which looks bigger but isn’t?

Not planning no renting it out, it fits a double bed, wardrobe and small chest of drawers but could I do something better with it? In case I do need to rent it out too.

A room that fits a double bed isn't a "box room".

You could make it seem bigger by changing to a single bed, then have a bedside table and a slightly smaller wardrobe, with drawers inside it rather than separate.

Or a three quarter bed - small double, but that does mean a whole new set of sheets etc. My poor mum in her house has king, double, small double and single beds. It's hellish trying to work out which bedding is for which, especially as for some odd reason everything is plain white!

I would get some dark green/blue full length curtains. Full-length curtains are much more flattering on windows than those to windowsill height.

I'd change the bed, as functional as divan beds are they aren't the most stylish.

I'd change the drawers.

And id put a giant rug half under the bed.

Your fireplace is beautiful and you have a large space to use!

Mumtobe89 · 24/11/2022 14:51

We've recently redecorated our bedroom. Still looking for something to put above the bed and new bedside tables

Marthasvineyardhaven · 24/11/2022 14:53

@Username1954 where is your house located?
It's a beautiful room..Best of luck for your move to France.

Shortkiwi · 24/11/2022 15:04

@ItsAWoozyItsAWazzy thanks so much for your advice. What type of bed do you think?

Bedrevealnc · 24/11/2022 15:04

Loving all the fake pics for inspiration, but being very nosy, I love the real ones even more! My bedroom is way too untidy to show, but here is my guest room.

Op why not just say you are 17 ish and interested in a career as an interior designer instead of pretending to be one? Your room is lovely but it's very obviously a young persons room and not one of an interior designer.

Nasty bitchy comment.

Not a great pic as it was one I took to show my mum where I’d put the crib just before DS was born! Pretty simple but there’s a wall of full height white wardrobes (IKEA Pax) with gold handles on the left and a white wall on the right with a couple of pictures & big mirror on! Some lovely ideas on this thread xo

@Breathmiller here's our living room one. The diamond in the middle is original colours so they arent forgotten!
Don't remember the paint, perhaps Ronseal, but it was specifically for tiles. Very easy to do!

Thanks so much. It looks so good with the surround too. Would never have thought to do that. Thanks

That's what the estate tried to sell it to me as "the box room" or a "small single" when I queried it when buying it. Super cheap due to probate sale and being very run down.

Very nice. This is what I'm aiming for with the small double/large single which I'm renting out.

But it's a lodger so doubt they'd care.

Love that but I'm such a mucky pup it'd be ruined in a minute.

I love the ideas of clean lines/white/pale colours but not practical. for me!
