Waitrose own brand bin liners, and they always break, and when you get them out it's super easy to poke a hole in them.

@containsnuts that Winnie the poop outfit. Fucking hell my eyes. I can't see how it would do anything for anyone! Distinctly unflattering.

We buy loads of bags of ice. We use it to fill several eskys for garden parties to keep drinks cold. Or the bath when the fridge is full. When we go fishing. When a group is coming over and it's a hot day. The freezer ice cube maker can't keep up with the demand. People love a shit tonne of ice in everything here.

Guessing you are in Oz.

Mine is Aunt Bessie's. Yorkshire puddings are easy to make and taste so much better.

There's a shop near me (think Home Bargains in terms of what they stock, but a local family-owned version) which has an entire aisle dedicated to fake flowers. I always wonder who's buying them in such quantities that it's worth dedicating a whole aisle to them.

Also I often wonder who buys all the lint rollers in IKEA. They seem to stock thousands of them. Surely you buy one and it lasts a decade?!

The IKEA rollers? That'll be my mum, she seems to buy them in the thousands...!

PurplePastaBake · 22/11/2022 04:15

Cheap bin bags. They just tear and you end up double or triple bagging everything, or you can only quarter or half fill it otherwise it splits open. I’d rather spend a bit extra and have a decent bag I can fill up and not have to put it in 2 extra bin bags to get it to the bins.

Frozen roast potatoes - vile. And you still need to put them in the oven so why not just make your own with a little extra effort and have a much nicer roastie with your dinner?

Sproutpie · 22/11/2022 04:26

Daniel O Donnell merch. His soft speaking voice gives me the complete ick. I guarantee there’ll be a tv advert for his annual album any day now.

Ready Break - it’s literally just oats in a smaller package for more money. I just can’t understand why anyone buys it.

Erm.....it's ground much finer FOR CHILDREN! Many kids hate lumps

🤨

Kevin the Carrot merchandise. I like lots of things that Aldi sell, but mostly I shop there because I can save money, and do smaller top-ups elsewhere for lines they don't carry. And I'm not against a useful impulse buy, whether for myself or as a present. But I don't get the appeal of a soft toy carrot.

You don't get how a child could like soft toy? Eh?!

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/11/2022 04:43

I was going to defend hand made craft stuff, because I make some stuff... but I don't think mines 'craft'... I don't follow a set of instructions or use a kit, I come up with my own designs (currently carving things out of wood) and people want to buy it.. the last thing sold within 2 minutes of me posting it on my FB page (not even a sales post!)...

But... DP sent me some pics of the stalls at a local craft market... and it was all DIRE, seriously, utterly, dire. Felted animals you had to squint at to see what they were meant to be, paintings painted to a formula that are one step up from paint by numbers, glittery glasses... UGH.

But presumably someone does buy it because those stalls are NOT cheap (And I don't bother with them because I can easily shift a hundred quids worth of stuff sat on my ass at home if I've a mind).

Um.. Fray Bentos pies - my former housemate, appeared to live on them. When I said he should expand his diet to include other food groups he took to cracking an egg on top before putting it in the oven, so it was now a greasy pie, flabby pastry, no crispy bit at all but with a wizened dehydrated egg crown!

I would ban them, they're foul. Also faggots, super cheap microwave burgers (my local shop used to ping them for you for 10p!)

Who the fuck buys things in the £1 shops with punctuation or spelling errors as part of the actual design?!

ChristmasisRuined · 22/11/2022 04:43

For me it's crushed velvet & those god-awful, tacky mirrored furniture 🤢

Scented sanitary towels.
I can tell by the strong scent when women are wearing them.
Also, fast track to itchiness!

I came to say this. After using Always brand abroad for more than 20 years, I switched brands here because Always is often scented. It's nauseating scent.
And fabreeze. Another nauseating scent that clings and clings. Like an over used, never-cleaned brothel

Mylittlepea · 22/11/2022 04:57

AfterSchoolWorry · 21/11/2022 22:26

YES!!!

I don't get it, I wouldn't use it if I was offered it for free.

I don't know how many times I've seen a nice bag or jumper only to realise it's Minnie mouse or some shit.

Very annoying.

Primark is full of the bloody stuff. Minnie Mouse everywhere. I don’t get it either

FootfallFootball · 22/11/2022 05:03

Selfie sticks. I still can't believe that such a thing has been invented

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

My brother is into expensive watches. I think it's ridiculous that someone would spend so much money on them and mostly they want more and more not just one watch.
He joked once about me getting him a Robert Duboius for his birthday. I had no idea so Googled it and man I nearly passed out!! Over 240k for a blasted watch!

They're mostly used for filming. GoPros have a feature which removes the stick from the resulting video. So people use them for filming on rides, filming the outdoors whilst a passenger in a vehicle etc. One guy on TikTok is a master roller skater and he uses it to film himself skating round London on an evening :)

Chris de Burgh records. I realise tastes vary, but WTAF? If I ever got to be in charge of such a thing the first amendment to the Geneva convention would be to add music of such piss poor quality to the list of crimes against humanity.

Oddly enough, in 'Say Goodbye To It All', he begins with the line 'Took a boat over Lake Geneva' - maybe he was off to nobble the convention to ensure that he would be spared on a technicality?!

To be fair, how many of his songs have you heard? Whether they appeal to you or not, like a lot of artists many of his (at least arguably) much better songs have never received a fraction of the same attention as 'Lady In Red' and 'A Spaceman Came Travelling'. I'd at least have a listen to 'No Borderline', if you haven't already heard it; if you do and still hate it, I think it's safe to say that, indeed, you can't stand any of his music and report him to the ECHR!

I love Borderline, not a fan of his main hits though. Lady in Red gives me hives, it's in the same vein as Lionel Ritchie's Hello.

Have you reported this to Waitrose? It really would be worth letting them know.

Yes you're right. I know a half-successful YouTuber and no doubt she uses one. I guess I am wondering when we'll get to the point where the number of people documenting their lives exceeds the number of people watching them.

@ApolloandDaphne

Check the rules but most do not allow fake flowers on environmental grounds. We allow plants though eg winter pansy is good currently

Cemetery definitely allows fake flowers. I have been taking them for 25 years along with many other who have loved ones in the cemetery.

MavisChunch29 · 22/11/2022 05:19

What a daft, reductive thread.

You don't know why people like Ready Brek? Seriously, step away from the phone and have a think for five minutes.

You don't know why people like garments with cartoon characters on? Because people like different things.

This. It blows my mind that people actually pay for the branded version.

Really weird thing. My DD has asthma and can't take ibuprofen as it makes her chest tight, not a full on attack or anything, just a bit wheezy. One day, desperate for pain relief she bought Nurofen liquid capsules as it was all there was and had no wheezyness. Further experimentation and she can also take liquid ibuprofen. I'm absolutely not recommending it as a course of action to anyone else with asthma. But that's the reason we buy branded and I curse at the price. The rest of us get Tesco own version.

takealettermsjones · 22/11/2022 05:39

For me it's those floor lamps that have three legs that stick out really far. Why?? It just takes up ten times the space.

For those who are irritated by sanitary towels, get reusable ones from mylittleecoshop.com. Game changer!

Christmas door mats! What do they do with them after Christmas?

I spotted a Christmas themed duvet cover set the other day!

iloveeverykindofcat · 22/11/2022 06:19

Bottled water.

I know some areas have harder water than others, but come on, there's got to be a better drinking water solution than buying it in bottles.

The sandwich that costs like £150. I'm not going to look it up because my computer's playing up now but Google it. I felt vaguely offended by its existence. My mum, who grew up in poverty, was more emphatic in her offense.
