Will be Universal Credit go up this much?

indiepins · 19/11/2022 16:39

It's currently around £1920 a month. Am I right in thinking it'll be over £2100 now?

DLA is about £600, so will that go up to £660? And CA is £69 a week so will that low be about £305?

Thank you Smile

You're a nurse? Fucking hell. You can read the OPS situation and come out with that shit? I thought nurses were people who were caring.

This is one of the must sickening goady threads I’ve ever read. Are you from the daily Fail? You do realise that hundreds of thousands of nhs full time workers earn far less than this . The freebie benefits system is a fucking joke. I’m a nurse and work my arse off as do all my colleagues. I’d love £2000 for sitting on my arse all day. You say your child is in school 9am to 3pm and I assume has free transport? Get your arse into gear and find a job, care work, (easy if your an HCA)
The benefit system is wrecking the economy, no wonder there’s no money for the nhs.
I can’t wait for our strikes to start.

And sleep when?

I'm sure the op would happily swap with you and all the shit that comes with looking after a disabled child.

Be grateful you can work.

Clearly a post from someone who doesn’t have a disabled DC. If you think OP’s sits on her arse between 9 and 3 you are deluded. Very deluded.

If those “NHS full time workers” who earn less had the same circumstances they too would be eligible for UC.

What's sickening, is that someone so lacking in compassion is a nurse

Thatsnotmycar · 20/11/2022 11:41

@BlackberriesArePurple I understand how much multiple disabled DC can cost. We are in a similar position - slightly less income, 3 disabled DC. Also supporting an older DC through university. People are aghast we would qualify for UC if we didn’t have savings. But disabled DC cost a fortune. We manage because we don’t have a mortgage, something I am incredibly thankful for.

That sounds so hard. I am also in the opposite situation with (on paper) a good income but being hammered by tax and the childcare costs and for obvious reasons no savings. It makes me feel very precarious and we struggle when colleagues in similar roles are living wonderful lives. But I'm one of the people always referred to in the news as apparently having "broad shoulders" who could afford to pay even more. I can't. I hope things are easier for you once your DC has finished university. Mine are both still very young so there is little light visible at the end of the tunnel.

roarfeckingroarr · 20/11/2022 11:59

@Asher33 sorry I meant I don't think non disability related should rise so much

Was about to say the same. WTF is wrong with people?

ImprobablePuffin · 20/11/2022 13:12

"I have to be honest if my first child was that disabled I wouldn't have had a second. Your life sounds awful. Have as much money as you want. I'd rather be dead than live like that."

Thank you for your thoughtful response. We didn't actually know disabilities were present at first and it turns out you can't just get rid of your kids if they don't turn out just as you'd hoped.
I've actually had suicidal depression for a few years now that affects me severely. I've thought about killing myself plenty of times but if I do that then my kids will be in an even worse position.
Thanks again for telling me you'd rather be dead than live my awful life.

I'm so sorry that that horrific poster spoke to you like that. And for your situation. People have no clue how hard it is.

LadyKenya · 20/11/2022 13:25

So many posters on here, lacking any sense of empathy, or understanding of how hard it would be to care for a child with serious disabilities. Shocking. Why the constant punching down?

ImprobablePuffin · 20/11/2022 13:33

@BlackberriesArePurple thank you for that. I take comfort in the knowledge that, as shit as my life can be at times, I'll never be as much of a dick or as sick as that poster who sees no problem in telling a suicidal individual that they'd be better off dead.

BlackberriesArePurple · 20/11/2022 13:39

It's disgusting how callous some people can be. I really hope you are getting some support to cope. What is being asked of you and many others is just not doable in 24 hours per day, not long term.

God help your patients with empathy and comprehension skills like yours.

OPs daughter doesn't sleep much of the night so OP doesn't sleep. Then she has to bet her out for school at say 8m30 and has her back 3.30. So that's 6 hours max a day term time only, minus all the "can you just pop into the school to check this", "can you just collect her for this", "you need to come with her in this" and all the hospital appts. Then there's the progress meetings, the reviews, the EHCP, the shot load of other paperwork.

You want OP caring for someone as a HCP knowing she's living on 3 hours sleep a night because cshe now can't catch up in the day and that at the first phone call she'll have to drop everything and leave? That's what you think people are looking for in staff?

Have a word with yourself. The only people on here working full time with highly disabled kids are "lucky" enough to "afford" specialist childcare. And I say "lucky" and "afford" because it's clear they're on their last legs financially and physically.

Jexi · 20/11/2022 15:33

What's it come to that people are jealous of people with disabled children.

Chris almighty.

I usually lurk and don't post much but Wow, how did a thread where someone asking for advice spiral so badly! Too much mean in the world and not enough compassion!

OP was just asking for help not an attack from people jealous of the help she's getting. That help has been put in place because life as a parent of a disabled child is bloody tough!

I have a child with severe disabilities who too does not sleep well. I am at time, zombie like too. I do work full time but only because I have an amazing employer who lets me drop everything when needed and understands one minute I will be there, the next I may not be able to be there. Not everyone is this fortunate and as such, need the extra support to survive the hand that life has given them.

I don't earn a fortune ( enough to survive if nothing major pops up) and can't afford specialist childcare. My career is not a career anymore, just a means to an end, my husband was forced to give up work to care for our child. We have however fought hard for direct payments to help with respite and also receive the princely sum of £12 per week in tax credits. Not much but it helps to balance the books.

Everyone has struggles in one way or another. It is far too easy to sit back and judge but until you've lived their life, you can't truly know the pressures and hardship. Please, everyone just try to be a little kinder. We are not each others enemies!

If you are working in the NHS then your salary is paid for by the tax payers. Depending on when and what training you have done your training will have been funded in part, if not all, by tax payers.

And yet you want the taxpayer to pay you more?

You seem happy to tell a parent to work as a HCA, as it is so 'easy'. So why don't you pick up some extra shifts as a HCA, with your training it will be even easier to do.

The OP is basically doing a 24 /7 working week. So after a 12 hour shift you should be able to do another 6 hours in a care home where you can drink tea and sit on your backside because that's all carers do isn't it?

Strange how you think caring for your own severely disabled child is easy but you 'work your arse off'.

Neanov · 21/11/2022 05:49

@Happyhippy99 you should be ashamed of yourself. You don't sound like a good nurse at all, even the HCA have voted to strike too..... YOU and your hierarchy are why wards are left to work with agency because some of you nurses think you a cut above the rest. Not been funny bus as a band 5 you earn similar to a HCA anyway!

DO YOU EVEN HAVE KIDS??? (I bet you don't).

A day don't starts at 7am and finishes at 19.30 NHS is a shitshow because of the rigid hours they expect everybody to work.
