Will be Universal Credit go up this much?

indiepins · 19/11/2022 16:39

It's currently around £1920 a month. Am I right in thinking it'll be over £2100 now?

DLA is about £600, so will that go up to £660? And CA is £69 a week so will that low be about £305?

Thank you Smile

@BlackberriesArePurple what rates of DLA DC you get? If both DC receive HRC then you would be able to earn over £5900 per month and still be eligible for UC.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 20/11/2022 10:50

How nice for you. Getting well over my full time Wage. I'm sure you need it but my god am I sad that we can't put the heating in even when I work 50 hrs a week

Presumably you don’t have a disabled DC and all the associated costs otherwise you would also be eligible for UC.

Maybe RTFT before you start acting like a twat. OP has a severly disabled child. Curb your jealousy.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 20/11/2022 10:55

@Thatsnotmycar no I'm not and of course I'm grateful I don't have a disabled child. But it is depressing that I have two degrees
, have worked for over a decade and I still get less than OP.she needs it of course but what... fuck us who try?

IDontWantToBeAPie · 20/11/2022 10:57

@ForTheLoveOfSleep am I not allowed to be fucking sad that I don't get so much free money? It's awful her child is disabled of course but my god am I sick of working and paying for. Everyone else

IDontWantToBeAPie · 20/11/2022 10:58

And tbh no I'd never be available for UC.

It's not free money ffs. I'm saving the government thousands by caring for DC myself

Of course you won’t be eligible for as much/if any benefits then. You don’t have the associated extra costs of having a disabled DC. You clearly don’t know how much it costs to have disabled DC. You also obviously don’t realise how much unpaid carers save the state.

In 2019 Scope found on average families with a disabled child spent an extra £581 per month because of their child’s disability. 24% spent more than £1000 per month. The top 20% spent an average of more than £1500 per month. Those figures are going to be significantly higher now both in terms of the average spends and also the % spending higher amounts.

Be grateful you can work. The op is saving this country a lot of money by caring for their disabled child.

FarmerRefuted · 20/11/2022 11:07

OP is working for her money a day is also contributing to the £132 billion each year that carers like her save the government in health and social care costs- enough to completely fund a second NHS. If we all downed tools, the social care system would crash as it wouldn't have the capacity or the money.

Thank you but I plugged it all into the calculators myself just now, along with earnings etc, and we can get nothing more than the PIP and DLA. Looks like we're just in the sour spot of being entitled to no UC but also losing TFC if I work for another promotion, and them being taxed at 60% on additional earnings, so effectively then a 70-75% tax rate in that bracket.

Thanks for trying to help me @Thatsnotmycar

Sorry OP for derailing your thread. I am glad that all the benefits are being uplifted to maintain their current value and sorry that there are so many awful comments on the thread.

Oh well that's easily fixed. Disable your child so severely that they'll never live an independent life and quit your job to provide round the clock care for them because the local authority won't meet their needs. Do that till you die and you'll get lots of lovely free money to enjoy.
👍

There's been so many threads like this recently, it's as if government want us to turn on one another..

There are so many posts that are likely made by Tory SM-bots on here lately posting us vs them benefits threads to try and get people angry at specific groups so they punch down rather than being angry with the government. Makes you wonder what sort of cuts or change they're trying to encourage support for.

I have to be honest if my first child was that disabled I wouldn't have had a second. Your life sounds awful. Have as much money as you want. I'd rather be dead than live like that.

Well you sound lovely don’t you? My God

I'm not a Toy boy ffs. The same Tory party that responded this when questioned why carers allowance wasn't going up?

People like you are so fucking ignorant. You’re not paying for ‘everyone else’ but people like you love to say that to make them feel good about themselves. Have you ever looked at the percentage of tax that goes on benefits? I’ve just looked on Gov and 19% of the £200 billon that the UK received went on welfare.

Welfare covers SO much and only a tiny percentage of that 19% covers benefits for people that are unemployed (OP also mentions that she works the odd shift here and there when she can). So why don’t you take your head out of your arse and stop saying you pay for everyone else because if you look at the statistics you really fucking don’t

Thank you. I will.

I am so sorry things are so hard for everyone. I know we're lucky in some ways. I am just so overwhelmed and exhausted. But understand there's little sympathy generally for people on my salary because people don't understand that after the specialist childcare there is a pittance left.

People really need to stop fighting with each other and focus on why we are in this situation. There was a thread the other day where I and others made some suggestions about things people could contact their MPs about to improve things:

*rejoin the single market (£40bn of the £50bn deficit that apparently necessitates the recent tax hikes and service cuts would be eliminated by this, so the Government doesn't have to do this to us all)
*fund universal childcare properly like in most European countries. This would eliminate huge amounts of poverty, reduce the labour shortage, improve sex equality and also improve productivity. It's a no-brainer which is why pretty much every other European country does it.
*Equalise the tax system so that single adult households aren't taxed more than those with two adults and the same household income. This is the cause of much poverty for single people and for children and women (more than 95% of single parents are women, the majority of poverty is in single-adult households and so is the majority of child poverty. There's a reason. Many countries e.g. France tax on a household basis).

Etc.

I wish people would direct their outrage at the Government for ignoring these elephants in the room rather than attacking people who are struggling in awful situations.

Thanks for the kind responses I've had here especially from @Thatsnotmycar

This is exactly the sort of divisive shit that is pointless.

I have two degrees and a professional qualification. I'm a net contributor to tax. I am also disabled and have two disabled children and as a result I am struggling to survive financially but I am also "funding others" - but don't resent it like you seem to.

Have some compassion. And if you're angry about the situation, instead of blaming carers/ the disabled email your MP with the list of issues I posted above. That will improve things for everyone in society, substantially. Everyone better off and everyone has to pay less.

You really are a twat then. It isn't free money. The OP is caring for a disabled child 24/7. A severely disabled child.
I have a 7 year old with the "brain age" of 12-18 months. Her understanding of language less so. Just think about that for a second. A 7 year old with the impulse control and understanding of a baby. She will likely always be this way. Even at 20. If i were to apply fro her to have a residential placement when she reaches adulthood the government would pay up thousands per week. That's if you can even find somewhere that isn't rated "requires improvement". Or, if I was to request carers come in to my home at the cost of the government to look after my child that's hundreds per day. Holiday club for my child? £95 per day which I would claim from the government via direct payments. Instead my Carer's Allowance costs the DWP £69.70 per week. As I am still on Child Tax credits (not working tax) there is no "Carer Element" and the Severely disabled child element is an extra £20ish per week

I am extremely fortunate that my husband works full time. 45 hrs per week for £1500 per month take home. We do get Tax credits, DLA and I get Carer's allowance. And we are extremely fortunate to have council house, though we do not help get with housing costs or council tax. We do not recieve FSM or free NHS prescriptions. My husbands salary of £23,000 last year (including bonuses) plus my carers of £3624 per annum put us way above the threshold for this.

I was a Nursery Nurse Room Leader until I had to leave my job. There's only so many phonecalls to my work place asking me to collect my daughter from her SEN school because she is ripping out her own hair and scratching the skin off of her face that my manager was willing to accept.

3hrs sleep per night. Eating things (mainly leaves) she finds in the street.

Free Money? FUCK YOU!

Thatsnotmycar · 20/11/2022 11:41

@BlackberriesArePurple I understand how much multiple disabled DC can cost. We are in a similar position - slightly less income, 3 disabled DC. Also supporting an older DC through university. People are aghast we would qualify for UC if we didn’t have savings. But disabled DC cost a fortune. We manage because we don’t have a mortgage, something I am incredibly thankful for.

Happyhippy99 · 20/11/2022 11:44

This is one of the must sickening goady threads I’ve ever read. Are you from the daily Fail? You do realise that hundreds of thousands of nhs full time workers earn far less than this . The freebie benefits system is a fucking joke. I’m a nurse and work my arse off as do all my colleagues. I’d love £2000 for sitting on my arse all day. You say your child is in school 9am to 3pm and I assume has free transport? Get your arse into gear and find a job, care work, (easy if your an HCA)
The benefit system is wrecking the economy, no wonder there’s no money for the nhs.
I can’t wait for our strikes to start.
