A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

So happy to have found this thread again!

My one little thing yesterday was quite an achievement - I got dressed! For context, I think I have the flu.

Today’s task is tidy up the bedside table because it is covered in drinks bottles, tissues and medicine. And task two is to actually go downstairs.

wish me luck!

Fingers crossed for the payout @clary
Hope you're feeling better @DifficultBloodyWoman

Yesterday I managed to:

  • order new bedding
  • enquire about changing GP surgery. I should have done this 4.5 years ago when I moved here!
  • emailed our lawyer about changing our wills slightly
All of these require follow ups (collecting the bedding, signing forms etc) but it feels good to know I haven't ignored them for another day and things are actually happening.

Laundry!

clary · 17/01/2023 21:13

👍@sundaymorningcall hope it goes through.

Today I put the Christmas paper away (it was lurking in the living room) and made a note on my iPad of things for next year - need more paper and labels, where I got the bird, what games we played. Always useful come December but I often forget to do it.

Done!

Lentilweaver · 18/01/2023 09:39

Cancelled a newspaper subscription I had been meaning to cancel and forgot about. Can't congratulate myself as I already paid for a month more than I meant to because I forgot. :(
Cleared my desk which has been so messy that I have been working from my dining table.

seperatedmum · 19/01/2023 20:21

-changed code on lockbox
-spoke to youngest off sick about packed lunches and sorted this for now
-cleaned the back door #innuendobingo

seperatedmum · 20/01/2023 20:29

*put away loads of clean washing that actually could go away genuinely overcrowded house
*did some research for work
*collected prescription
*phoned GP's regarding this

clary · 20/01/2023 20:40

Cleared away birthday cards (not many but that’s fine tbf)
Did some website admin for a club I am involved in
sorted out a complicated email that needed multiple attachments (why??)

Tangled123 · 20/01/2023 20:46

I need to clear the kitchen table. I actually asked husband to do it last week or the week before but he didn’t, and it’s even worse now because I’ve added to the mess. That’s tomorrow’s job.
Today’s job was clear the freezer, which I did.

FlorencenotRatchet · 21/01/2023 15:19

Finally bought another pair of trousers for work so I'm not constantly washing the one decent pair that I have.

seperatedmum · 21/01/2023 21:35

-updated budget
-made a call about this
-investigated a benefit
-usual laundry stuff

seperatedmum · 24/01/2023 19:13

played sock snap with the old sock basket and made probably 100 pairs made

Can2022getanyworse · 24/01/2023 20:10

Jobs I have done this week -
Ordered a new mattress and had it delivered
Put the Christmas stuff back in the loft

clary · 24/01/2023 23:16

Yesterday: had new tyres fitted to my car
Today: posted a big bag of ebay items plus a book that needed returning.

clary · 26/01/2023 20:31

OK still going and it is still helping!
Done several things today as v busy tomorrow evening.

  • Yesterday sorted out some packaging in the bedroom and cleared the didgy apples from the fruit bowl.
Today:
  • Claimed for DH's dental treatment
  • Filled in form for DS2's house next year at uni
  • Mended the Sheila maid which collapsed on me this morning (I am proud of that one)

Keep it going all!

Lentilweaver · 27/01/2023 13:56

Can you come to my house and sort it out @clary ? I am so behind on this. Been planning to get rid of some cardboard boxes for ages, but not managed it. Pencilling it in for this weekend.

clary · 27/01/2023 14:28

Haha @Lentilweaver do it tonight! The trick is to think of things that will only take 15 mins- you always have that much time.

Wise words!

I have just paid a bill, and recycled/binned a bag of old Christmas cards (kept the only two that meant something).

DifficultBloodyWoman · 27/01/2023 21:22

I’ve just sorted through DD’s clothes - what she has outgrown and what she has yet to grow into.

Thanks to the generous it’s of friends, that child has more clothes than me! I don’t think I need to buy anything for her until she turns two.

mum2jakie · 27/01/2023 22:55

Managed a few separate but related tasks - ordered a repeat prescription and did a charity shop drop off on the way past.

clary · 29/01/2023 18:31

Yesterday and today:

  • Sorted out bag of birthday presents and put them where they needed to go - some nice things!
  • Finished ironing (not really an extra job but there was a lot to do as it had built up over a week)
  • Transferred some money to DS1
  • Done a website task for my voluntary role
  • Ordered DD's meds
  • Written invoice for my side hustle
Can2022getanyworse · 29/01/2023 18:56

Today I have FINALLY fixed the dishwasher. 2 hours later (and 4 months of waiting) my kitchen is once again functioning!

mum2jakie · 29/01/2023 21:26

I'll take credit for my husband's handiwork today. A new blind fitted in our bedroom.

seperatedmum · 30/01/2023 17:29

moved some (small) stuff off the stairs and hoovered them and put some big things away in DD's room, still a long way to go there
