A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

Well done everyone.
I've been very unproductive the last week but took 2 bags to the charity shop today

mum2jakie · 07/01/2023 23:39

Not managed anything today so just wiped the doorframe as I was going to bed as I spotted black mould growing. It's really bad this year!

Galaxyinmypocket · 08/01/2023 21:01

@mum2jakie I managed to clean my bathroom ceiling, it had never been so bad! I used bleach to clean it. It has been there, getting worse for months, really felt a sense of accomplishment getting that sorted.

This week I have managed to throw away a bag full of old toys and clothes and other bits that were pointless.
I cleared out my closet and stuck a few of those plastic damp collectors in there. I've been able to put the dehumidifier on in there now there's more space.
I've also filled a bag for the charity shop and sorted some stuff i want to put in the loft.
I've set up my eBay account that I'd lost the password to and filled a bag to stick on there when I get time.

I feel I have really accomplished quite a bit this week even though I was unwell the first few days.

Still more to do but I'll tackle it a bit at a time.

mum2jakie · 08/01/2023 22:08

Well done @Galaxyinmypocket I've still got tackling mould on bathroom ceiling and tops of bedroom walls on my list but will need stepladders to tackle it properly!

Whydidimarryhim · 08/01/2023 22:17

Oh great thread - first job -Sorted out a bag of socks - they had sat around for a year - will give it to charity as they take them.
Tomorrow take the tree down. 😁

Britinme · 08/01/2023 22:19

I cleared out a box full of books that I will either never read or never re-read. I could have done more tbh.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/01/2023 22:36

Cleared out old bedding DC will never use again.
Not sure where to take it TBH. It's very usable and in great condition. Will ask around.

then did towels too. Refolded/rolled and relegated some very sad ones to the dog and some were cut up for cleaning with

Sorted one kitchen cupboard. Which had spices in. Some dated from 2014 🫣 so they're all now sorted.

made a list of my jobs to tackle!

Charity shops are always glad of good bedding.

Yesterday I was a human powerhouse (by my standards) - took the xmas tree down/outside; took down the xmas decorations and packed them away; went through a bunch of boxes that have been stacked in my bathroom for ages (for lack of anywhere else to put them) and reduced them in number - still more to sort through, but the difference this has made already is enormous

clary · 09/01/2023 21:34

Yesterday I sorted out the goodies from my other Ad Calendar; today I have only packed up 2,x eBay parcels, but then it is my birthday.

clary · 10/01/2023 21:31

Helped DD to write answers for possible questions for a job interview this week. That's a really crappy job that you put off so we are pleased to have done it.

Also posted two ebay things. Keep going everyone.

I've tidied up the shelves in my wardrobe. Can finally see all my clothes rather than a big pile of tangled mess

toomanyhobbies · 12/01/2023 17:43

DS and I finally got round to opening the rest of the chocolate advent calendars this week. This prompted a sort out of the hot chocolate station in the kitchen as I have put the advent chocolates there in a jar to be added to hot chocolate (they are only small).
today I tidied up the under stairs cupboard looking for the charger for a hoover - it wasn’t there. Hoping to get one of the bags of stuff in my room sorted tonight again in search of the missing charger.

Love the idea of a hot chocolate station

Put the Christmas shopping lists that were still scudding about back in the loft; tidied up pile of Christmas present bags and receipts and found unopened box of biscuits which I took into work.

Passpass · 12/01/2023 23:12

So far
Draw of doom
Kitchen shelf
front door basket
Old toys into car boot for charity shop
Two shelves in wardrobe
Got my eye on another shelf in wardrobe and a big pile of folders and notebooks in spare room.
Is also inspiring DH to sort his shit out you! Win win!

Today's task is to clear stuff from kitchen worktops now I have made space by decluttering the cupboards. Starting to see improvements at last!

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2023 08:51

You are all killing it! I have fallen behind. But hoping to do the kitchen worktops today.

clary · 14/01/2023 09:17

Yesterday, sent an awkward email, posted two parcels, booked a day’s holiday I need.

Today need to claim back money for my dental treatment.

Keep going everyone!

Britinme · 14/01/2023 13:55

Finally dealt with a small administrative matter that needed a set of forms filled in and posted. Deadline was almost upon us...

Galaxyinmypocket · 14/01/2023 15:56

Sorted out ds wardrobe, a bag has been filled for charity and some more things for my eBay collection.

Sorted out and hoovered right through his bedroom too.

Currently I am working through my own bedroom and plan to sit and cancel 2 direct debits that are non needed anymore.

I'm so fatigued today. I'm currently lying on my bed having a break but I'm about to get up and power through. Maybe even iron the uniforms a day early so I can rest some more tomorrow

seperatedmum · 14/01/2023 17:48

please may I join? I'm on the decluttering thread but I also need to do more small things in the house, so last night I had an urge to clean so I pulled the corner settee out and swept the whole floor and dealt with all the bits that appeared. made me feel better

sundaymorningcall · 15/01/2023 09:23

Can I join too please? I have a massive list of things to be done, most of them are pretty small jobs but I overthink everything and put it all off until they become huge tasks that I just can't face. Hopefully at least one small job a day will make things feel less overwhelming. So far today I have:

  • Taxed my car - literally took 2 minutes
  • Updated budget spreadsheet and amended a couple of standing orders
  • Exchanged socks I had bought last week in the wrong size
clary · 15/01/2023 18:11

@sundaymorningcall this is the beauty of the thread - jhobs that take little time yet were building in your head Grin

Today I have

  • Paid a friend for a meal that's coming up
  • Put a load of stuff on ebay
  • Pulled together a load of skincare empties - they were piling up

Yesterday I filed my claim for dental treatment which hopefully will see a payout of £200+ (I mean I have spent it but I may as well get it back eh). That one's been hanging about for at least three weeks on my list.
