A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

Cleaned the upstairs windows and washed the voiles. 💪

MissMarplesNiece · 02/01/2023 21:34

Can I join in? I'm quite ill atm and haven't done any cleaning/tidying since a couple of weeks before Christmas. I feel like I'm floating on a sea of chaos. If I can get one job a day done it will be massive progress for me.

mum2jakie · 02/01/2023 22:13

Welcome @MissMarplesNiece Great username!

Galaxyinmypocket · 02/01/2023 22:43

Christmas decorations down today.
Windows cleaned
Sorted cupboard on the landing which had loads of bedding and towels.
Have sorted and given away some items from clearing the cupboard.
Beds stripped and made (again) third time this week, everyone here has sickness & diarrhea except me, so I'm trying to get through as much as I can before I'm struck down!

Tomorrow I plan to sort through make up and toiletries and hopefully sort some more clothes out to donate.

MissMarplesNiece · 03/01/2023 14:09

Sorted out the huge pile of clothes on my bedroom floor - it's been there for several weeks & getting bigger by the day. Now it's gone 🙂

PinkyU · 03/01/2023 14:26

Today I’ve taken the Christmas decorations down (January is birthday season for us X6!). I didn’t get round to going through the clothes bag so about to do that just now.

Thelongdarkteatime · 03/01/2023 14:55

Can I also join in? We have a lot of clutter I want to get rid of as hoping to move next year.

Today I tidied the drawer of doom in the kitchen (have number candles to cater for most birthdays now!) and it is now delightful.

Love this idea of small jobs, it’s so much more motivating.

Handbagsandgladrags81 · 03/01/2023 15:18

'Re-set' family areas and thrown all excess from Christmas
Washed guest bedding and ordered some bags to store them in that are a bit sturdier than binbags!

LemonDrizzles · 03/01/2023 15:38

Washed out mobilo container. Gathered all pieces ready to be photographed. Now have space for 2-3 Christmas gifts. Husband also suggested we get rid of bigger tool toy - an happy. Will be ordering ikea kallax storage unite as soon as I can. Even more toys stored away

toomanyhobbies · 03/01/2023 18:56

Ds loves Christmas so there are a lot of decorations and we have to take them down gradually.

today it was the stairs and landing all Christmas stuff cleared and gave it all a good clean. I can’t wait for it all to be gone as I hate having all the boxes hanging around. When I went in to the loft I did get 3 (mainly empty) bags of stuff down most of which has been binned so that’s a good start. Oh and DH got a box of old
magazines down that went straight in to recycling.

the loft really needs a sort out so this year I am going to try and get something from there every week to sort/bin/sell.

CaptBuckyOHare · 03/01/2023 19:21

Did a bit of dusting and some digital filing.

Lentilweaver · 03/01/2023 19:37

Did well today. Put together an Ikea cupboard and hung up a huge pile of clothes that were in a basket.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 03/01/2023 20:45

Today I defrosted the freezer which was long overdue - really enjoying how easy it is to slide open and close the drawers now. Small pleasures lol.

clary · 03/01/2023 20:52

Wow well done all. Yy @aLittleWhiteHorse a freezer tidy is always a good shout.

This am I tidied my swimming bag and chucked some bits - going to put in some of my advent calendar hair are as it seems a good place for a leave in conditioner to get used.

This pm (double bubble) I took down the wreath as it was manly, pulled off the greenery and put in the brown bin, and saved the savable bits (ribbon, lights, pinecones) in a shoebox. Labelled “wreath bits” :)

clary · 03/01/2023 20:53

Blindly hair care and the wreath wasn’t manly it was manky! Stupid phone

clary · 03/01/2023 20:53

Blimey not blindly. My phone actually hates me 😂

MissMarplesNiece · 04/01/2023 15:31

Sorted out the draw where I keep my jumpers & cardigans. It was stuffed so full it wouldn't open. Found things in there that I thought had already gone to charity shops at least 12 months ago.

Galaxyinmypocket · 04/01/2023 15:33

Well, as predicted I was struck down all day yesterday with tummy bug. A bit better today so have sorted out some of my clothes to go to charity and hung some others up ready to be put away.
I've not got round to sorting toiletries and make up but I have far too much, plus stuff I got for Christmas. I am not going to buy any beauty related items this year unless absolutely necessary.
I'm going to start filling up those bags that come through the door.
Hope you're all getting on ok with the daily task challenge ☺️

Galaxyinmypocket · 04/01/2023 15:35

@MissMarplesNiece I have the same issue with pjs drawer. I have 2 drawers that I can barely open or close but I dread giving away or throwing pjs because nearly every set was a gift. I always feel guilty chucking stuff that's been given to me.

Thelongdarkteatime · 04/01/2023 17:57

I’m the same with PJs. Have so many, non matching too and for some reason always hang on to them.
Today’s small jobs: replaced a knob on the dimmer switch which broke probably longer ago than I care to admit.
Framed and put up two photos (one of which has been on my to do list for 6 months!)
Feels good to tick these jobs off.
Hope all is going well for everyone else

Cantthinkofabettername · 04/01/2023 20:19

Today I did a day at the holiday club where I work, so getting 2 work surfaces cleared in the kitchen when I got home was my limit today #onwardsandupwards

clary · 04/01/2023 22:41

Inspired by @aLittleWhiteHorse i cleaned out a drawer of the freezer and chucked some unknown unlabelled item. Short on time this am hence just doing one drawer. It’s a start tho.

clary · 06/01/2023 18:59

Yesterday put away a pile of books that have been sitting on the floor for months. Today tidied another freezer drawer.

Also yesterday - took down and put away all Chr tree decs, took down tree, MASSIVE hoover up job. That's not an extra job tho

FedUpWithEverything123 · 07/01/2023 18:58

Hi all - Happy New Year! I am currently just trying to do tiny jobs all over the place to try to dig myself out of the clutter and mess of my house/life/everything. Each tiny step, each tiny thing binned, or put in the correct place, or just looked at to know what I'm dealing with, is helping my mind. It may take me months/years to get where I want to be, but I'm feeling positive

FedUpWithEverything123 · 07/01/2023 19:00

Oh some recent wins - defrosted the freezer (it was 50% ice); went through a pile of old magazines; returned some clothes that were the wrong size; just taken all decorations off the xmas tree
