I just heard on the radio. Don't know what others think but I used to love their brightly coloured pyjamas.

MN disaaaaaahster darlings!

I’d rather be frumpy and outdated in my joules, than wear fast fashion like Primark. Joules stuff lasts and lasts.

Exactly this. I've got quite a few Joules pieces. They are still pristine.

I do agree about Boden.
15 or so years ago, I'd be one of the MNers setting my alarm for 6am the day the sale started.
I do still have some Hampshire trousers which are my go-to work trousers but the tops/shirts/dresses are very expensive for the quality. I think their children's arm must keep them going.

It's interesting what you say about their children's stuff. I too have been a long standing Boden buyer and bought loads of their children's stuff when my boys were younger. I used to sell them on second hand on a local FB page, and people would be biting my hand off to get them. These past couple of years, though, nobody seems to want it any more.

well I like them; as part of my wardrobe not the whole thing I like my bright pink top and how it has velvet bits inside the collar yes I did buy it at an overpriced garden Centre and it shows no signs of wear, I like the little details on their stuff, I love the odd stripe, I've never been ' sexy' so toddler stuff/Mexican Carnival/frumpy doesn't bother me 🤷🏽‍♀️

Those are the only two choices for women. ‘Sexy’ or dressing like a womble.

AppleCrumbleRumble · 14/11/2022 08:27

Look, I like florals and I don't mind the odd stripy top but it's the colours and patterns. Dogs, rainbows, bees, cutesy childish drawing on lots of their clothes that I said look like toddler clothes. I am sure some of their clothes are not like toddlers but when I think Jules I think silly rain drops patterns, cutesy dogs cartoon, flowers and stripes. Women who likes such patterns are of course free to wear them but that's not what most women want. We want quality, in solid colours that can mix and match our existing wardrobe in 'normal' cuts, lengths and shapes. Practical and realistic for our weather and lifestyles, nothing too sexy or 'be kind'.

MaitreKarlsson · 14/11/2022 08:27

Surely it doesn't matter if you liked their clothes or not. It's another British business that is in dite trouble. They employ 1600 people and they had a solid customer base. Extremely sad and worrying.

Rewis · 14/11/2022 08:28

Good to know since I just applied for a job with them😅

Well looking at the amount of people on this thread that don’t then that’s probably why they weren’t making a profit and have gone into administration.

ThanksItHasPockets · 14/11/2022 08:31

The last time I went in a Joules was the on-site branch in a Center Parcs. It had all gone very Per Una. Nothing was plain or simple.

Like PP, Seasalt have completely replaced Joules for me. Properly waterproof coats, decent wellies, unembellished cotton Bretons (I buy the men’s), really good socks, generous teacher discount. It’s a shame though. The store in our town is in a really prominent unit on the high street and I’d be sorry to see it go.

iknowwheretheothersockgoes · 14/11/2022 08:31

MN loves to hate Joules. Everyone is so achingly trendy and cool.

Dunno what happened there...but yes, I used to sell DD's Boden stuff sometimes for more than I'd bought it for. And sometimes the stuff I sold at a bloody good price was already second hand from eBay.
I think eBay's T&C and it turning into basically a Chinese manufacturers wet dream selling outlet into Europe put the kybosh on that tbf.

Also - Seasalt have much better size diversity - plus size and tall.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/11/2022 08:33

“there are enough people who want to dress as if they are part of some weird county set of floral Breton, welly and duffle coat lovers”

Love this! Don’t have a Joules Duffel though.

Aye. Though they never say where they would prefer us to shop, have you noticed?
And if Zara sell the exact same dress as M&S nobody bats an eyelid, but the guffaw at the M&S one. (happened about 5 years ago, identical)

mamabear715 · 14/11/2022 08:35

Exactly, @Sparklingbrook - good job they weren't relying on me, I've never spent any money with them! Kind of like a middle class uniform, I always thought, Boden & Seasalt too, although obviously am sorry for staff AND customers & hope Next snaps them up like they have Made .com.

Babyroobs · 14/11/2022 08:35

CreamArran · 14/11/2022 07:40

I hate those stripes tops with flowers all over them! Agree it’s quite frumpy. I have the odd thing from there but bought in the sale, the quality is generally not worth the prices they charge.

I met a couple of friends yesterday and my friend was wearing one of those and we got talking about Joules and I mentioned I had read about them going into administration and they were both shocked, one even said she was hoping to get a part time job in one of their stores. I guess that plan is looking less likely now !

Or the majority of which, do. And aren't 70 either. And have pointed out they are such good quality you don't need to replace.
Where do you buy clothes? Perhaps you could give us some style tips? We so obviously need them.

MetellaInHortoEst · 14/11/2022 08:36

Brogues · 14/11/2022 07:34

I thought Next had already bought them for some reason. Perhaps I’m thinking of another company!

Laura Ashley?

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 14/11/2022 08:36

It's a shame - I for one am sad to see them go, although our local branch closed quite a while ago. I used to buy dresses for work, but in the last few years I think the fabric quality really went downhill and the ratio of randomly appliqued bumblebees seemed to go up. My wellies from 15 years ago are still going strong though.

SuspiciousBanana · 14/11/2022 08:36

They used to produce decent quality, durable Country wear. But in the last 15 years they started to produce cheaply made stuff over seas and were aiming everything they sold to townies who don’t go near mud! Not bought a decent item of clothing from them in years.

UWhatNow · 14/11/2022 08:36

AppleCrumbleRumble · 14/11/2022 07:54

Their clothes became too niche and outdated. Most adult women don't want to dress like toddlers.
I wonder when Boden will go bust. Their clothes are increasingly garish and expensive. They seem to think most women live in a Mexican Carnival.

OMG this. I always look at Joules and Boden and wonder where all these women live and work to walk around looking the Vatican Swiss guard and being able to spend £80 on a viscose jersey dress.

Figgygal · 14/11/2022 08:38

Aw no need a new coat too

mondaytosunday · 14/11/2022 08:38

Too bad - great clothes for my daughter- colourful and washed well. Always decent sales.

I but my clothes from anywhere that sells stuff I like much like anyone else. 🤷‍♀️
