Do you let your dog lick the dishes?

Lunch at a friend's house last week. Chatting happily. Took plate over to the sink, rinsed it, put it in the dishwasher. Turned around to see her standing behind me holding plate out for dog to lick before adding to the dishwasher.

I love dogs but I have to admit my stomach did turn a little on seeing this. Is this standard for dog owners? I grew up with dogs and we never did this, but I'm wondering if we were in the minority?

We do, I don’t have a problem with it. All those repulsed should probably never eat in a pub or restaurant that allows dogs in 😂

I really try to, but sadly they are getting fewer and fewer. Sad

Dogs are welcome pretty much everywhere now, it's quite amazing to see all the drinking bowls available in shops / restaurants.
I love dogs, but I don't want one in a restaurant I'm eating in, or sniffing around in shops I'm browsing in.
There was one in a fecking clothes shop recently Confused
Who wants dog hair on brand new, unwashed clothes?

Our local out of town shopping centre has recently become dog friendly and I love it! Now spend my Saturday mornings browsing the shops and going for brunch with my two furry boys. They're entirely uninterested in the clothes so I doubt they are casting all over them

Why? I wasn't keen beforehand but I had a bad experience with a really horrible dog. And 'soz' - really?

I don't understand why you need to take your dog clothes shopping either. Do they go in the changing rooms with you? Confused I know you have to carry them on the escalators. Hmm

userxx · 13/11/2022 22:53

I let my dog lick my face and I'm not going through a dishwasher.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 13/11/2022 22:57

Yep my dog is a pre wash....
all of yous that say it’s dirty... that’s what the dishwasher is there to do..... clean. with a dishwasher tablet...

This.... it winds me up.... I work on a high street and see dogs getting walked around on shopping trips..? Why? It’s not fair on dogs and it’s also not fair to those that are afraid. I have a dog and would never in a million years take her along shopping. The best bit is when they get turned away because it’s not a an assistance dog. The look of absolute disgust that you can’t take your dog into a clothes shop. It’s different if your out for a walk and need to quickly pop into the shop for a pint of milk etc, but full on shopping trip... nope

TitaniasAss · 13/11/2022 23:02

Why are people do over the top on here? 🤣

'Pet owners are unhygienic' (the most
unhygeinic house I've ever been in didn't have pets)

'If you don't like dogs you are a horrible person'

If you do like dogs you must let them sleep on your bed you disgusting twat

Everyone apart from me is wrong about everything etc etc

Jeez, it's not that serious a topic ...

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2022 23:09

I went to one of those shopping outlet places and I think I was the only one there without a little yappy type dog-they were everywhere.

Yep my dog does the pre wash before the dishwasher goes on 😳

He also cleans my toddlers high chair (obviously I disinfect it afterwards). I am clearly a heathen.

Absolutely vile. As is anybody who lets their dog lick their dishes... but the toddlers highchair. New levels of disgusting.

EdgarFrog said they clean the high chair afterwards!

Or are you expecting them to burn it in a fire instead?

asblindasabat · 13/11/2022 23:20

Yes my dog licks my bowls, plates, cutlery, mugs and teacups, oh and he licks my saucepans too.

Joking, no absolutely no way. I can’t believe people actually do this?

Blackmetalmama · 13/11/2022 23:25

Or how about just don't let a dog lick it to begin with? Less drastic and much more hygienic then letting a dog lick its arse and then lick the surface that your baby eats off

But anyone with a baby will be giving any surface their baby uses a thorough clean anyway.

Except the knobs I see in a local cafe who change their baby's nappies on the table in full view of everyone.

Changing a baby on the table is disgusting but is it really any worse than the mingers letting their dog lick and spread shit all over their plates and baby's highchair?

Agree, it's gross but not at all up there with the dog licking plates or the baby's highchair. Unless the baby is going to lick it's bum after doing a poo, the lick a plate which somebody is then going to eat off. Or perhaps its highchair, where mummy lovingly lays down pieces of chopped fruit on top of the shit lick.

Furries · 14/11/2022 01:32

No, no and thrice no. I love dogs, but no way would I have let my dog lick any of my crockery or utensils.

If I had leftovers suitable for her, then she’d get a small amount added to her dinner bowl that night.

NickEccles · 14/11/2022 01:39

lots of dog haters on mn, read this sentence before more than once too! Am so happy that there are so many dog lovers out there.......to me it seems that it's a much newer trend to be not in favour of so many things these days.......Overreactions galore on this thread alone with stupid comments suggesting dogs are almost our enemies.......I really enjoy mn but sometimes it can leave one a little dismayed....

stillvicarinatutu · 14/11/2022 01:44

The dishwasher will sanitize the plate . Calm the fuck down !

I let my dogs lick my face . I'm not dead yet .

Christ that is disgusting. Pet owners have no hygiene standards.

Some people have no hygiene standards. It’s little to do with pets. I’ve always had dogs and I would never let my dogs lick me or my plates.

This.... some people need to chill TF out... people be acting like dishwashers don’t clean and we just load and unload them for the fun of it 😆

The things people let their dogs do leaves one feeling like that too.

username8888 · 14/11/2022 11:22

Occasionally, but the dishwasher sterilises as well as clean so there's no risk, but it's not massively nice.
