Im numb. I went to the haemotolgist with a lump in my groin 5cm. He really thought it was lymphoma and was direct that it would be cancer. The biopsy was sent off a week ago. And hes just rang its mestatic. Its like a dream. I feel fine. Thats it for me isnt it? Im only 55 where could it be from?

Glad a decision has been made. You will feel more positive now you know you can start treatment, you will know it’s being dealt with.
Although you say you will be doing this alone, do let people know and do accept offers of help. It would be good to have a little support team you can call on.

EachandEveryone · 07/01/2023 14:23

Yes I have that, lovely friends. I dont want people dropping in on me though Im very funny like that 😃

Oh God yes! I need to prepare myself if people are visiting, even if they are just coming for coffee. I had a friend drop in unexpectedly last week, totally threw me lol!

So are they still 100% sure it's secondary?

EachandEveryone · 13/01/2023 20:10

Yes as its in my lymph nodes but the primary might not still be in my body. I dont know how that works.

ive got an appointment every day next week. I dont know whether I am coming or going.

My Dad had secondary cancer of unknown primary, and one of the ways this can happen is if the primary tumour obtructs its own blood supply as it grows.

OldFan · 14/01/2023 00:12

I'm still feeling very optimistic for you @EachandEveryone . Praying for you and hoping you'll soon be out the other side. x

I agree xxx

mistopheles · 15/01/2023 09:44

I'm so glad you have a plan. Finally you can focus on your treatment and stop wondering what and when it's going to be.

And I think it sounds logical, that the primary thankfully sorted itself out but unfortunately left a secondary behind.

EachandEveryone · 17/01/2023 14:59

Chemo starts Friday I have so much to do!

OP posts:
velvetblanket · 17/01/2023 15:02

Good luck with it. Something solid now to focus on to get you better.
What do you need to do before hand? Hope your to do list isn't too long and taxing?!?!

Beach11 · 17/01/2023 15:31

Wonderful news.
Make a list and delegate tasks out if possible.
Get your self a nice treat for Friday x

EachandEveryone · 17/01/2023 16:22

I need to clean up and throw loads of things. Do I need to buy anything I wonder? I am having a picc put in on Thursday

OP posts:
Timeforachangeisitnot · 17/01/2023 16:39

I had a picc. Ask your chemo nurse for a shower sleeve to keep it dry while you bathe; you may also get some stretchy sleeves to cover and keep it in place when it’s not in use.

I had a wrap to keep me warm while my arm was hooked up via the picc line as you will be restricted in what you can wear .( well I was as constantly hooked up in my case).

Do you expect to lose your hair? If so, something - cap, scarf, whatever- to keep your head warm.

Glad you have a plan and best of luck.💐

kateandme · 18/01/2023 17:08

my friend has a pic ajusted jumper.they are made especially for them.i wonder whether this might help.it certainly made her life easier. she has secondary so is on constant chemo now and has a permanant line in so having those jumpers helped her massively. a bit like those maternity jumpers haha.

dont force yourslef to think you need tosort your life out before hand.you need to rest and be in good order not frazzled before hand.
deligate if you can.
can you or can someone bring some non perishables in. like nice soothing soups. rich teas to nibble.things that you can think of that you might manage over "proper meals" it hits people differently but its good to be prepared for those days you feel off it and or cant go out to shop.
have a blanket, pjs, pillow, slippers brought down to the lounge if you can. for those days you need to just come in and drop.
and things like magazines or journal etc close by. a chemo comfort basket of sorts.

possibly book in an online shop incase?

have you real life people who are going to be there for you.i cant remeber if we talked of this upthread sorry?

Salacia · 19/01/2023 15:40

Glad that the process is starting for you. Second what @kateandme has said, I’d concentrate on having nice stuff close at hand. Simple/easy snacks for when you don’t feel like eating, perhaps some lazy food options for the freezer etc. I’ve not had chemo but when I’ve been getting myself ready for other medical treatments I’ve made sure I had teabags (especially mint, herbal teas etc which don’t need milk when I’ve run out/don’t feel able to get to the shop), biscuits etc. Sometimes it’s best (or at least easiest) to eat little and often.

I’d also make sure you have distractions to hand - magazines (recommend a readily subscription or similar if that’s your sort of thing), audiobooks, simple crafting stuff etc - whatever makes you feel like you. Make a list of tv shows etc you’ve been wanting to watch so you have it to hand in case you feel too tired to make a decision etc. Cosy things (blankets, jumpers, scarves etc) dotted around so you’re never too far from comfort. I’ve always thought of it as making some sort of pre-emptive nest for myself.

Will be thinking of you!

EachandEveryone · 19/01/2023 16:38

Had the line put in this morning starting to feel real now. I just took a load of stuff to the charity shop and started crying when she said thank you so much have a good week😀 The cleaner has come to do a deep clean £75 for 2 1/2 hours! And she told me she has five relatives that have come out the other side but warned me that my potassium will drop and I will be violently sick!

i will smoke my last six fags tonight and finish the Xmas Baileys. Thank you all so much for your encouragement x
